Apparently if you plug on someone you cause them to lose their win streak. As an added bonus, if you had a winstreak of your own, you have a one time pardon and keep your streak and lose no xp (I've tested this). Second plug in a row makes you lose xp and your streak as normal. It's baffling that plugging is so rewarding...

Its crazy to me that devs will do everything NOT to punish disconnecting, always under the guise of “we are unable to tell if its intentional or not” it really doesnt matter. To a player who’s genuine and halfway skilled, you’ll be able to make up for that loss anyway. A minor penalty for those with legitimate connection issues and a much larger one for those who abuse it.

The whole ranked system is awful in Tekken. It's unfathomable to me that you can design a ranked system that only needs to account for two players and somehow end up with a worse system than FPS games or MOBA's that have to account for entire teams. At the rate fighting games progress I'm sure we'll have a proper ranked system in 10 years though.

This is how WoW slowed people down from grinding themselves to dust and let casual players catch up. They used to give xp penalties for playing too long, but that just made hardcore players mad. Instead, they awarded people with "bonus" xp for logging off for a while with a rested bonus. It was the exact same thing but it's much more effective at aligning player incentive with dev intent.

I think the confusion stems from the assumption that it's an agreement to a best 2 out of 3 match. In Tekken 7, you could play someone for one match, and then another, and another, infinitely technically. In Tekken 8, it's simply been restricted to a best out of 3 (i.e. 3 matches at most with the same player). You're not agreeing to a 2 out of 3, simply 1 and IF both parties are down, then another and possibly a 3rd depending on the outcomes.

On the showcase stream where they showed off Eddy, they spoke about the other half of this issue; Disconnecting mid-match. They know about it. They're gearing up to make the changes necessary for the game to be a healthy environment. But they need to get each Region's law papers together so they can ensure that they're not breaking a law somewhere if they do Penalize or Ban these people. It sucks to know that it's going to take some time for them to start rolling these changes out, but I can appreciate how open and transparent they were to state where they were in the process of it.
But to address Aris' qualms, I also feel as if they should make Ranked a mandatory "Two out of Three." Structurally, it gives you the sense of consistency. Systematic Consistency is a fantastic thing to strive for in any setting.
Realistically, up to a maximum of ten Rounds in a game where Rounds only last sixty seconds is extremely reasonable; That's an extremely small amount of time when you compare that time investment to Competitive 'Counter Strike' and other games of the like.
Yeah, I get it; Someone may not want to go for that second game because the first Match was laggy and unstable. In a perfect world, there'd be systems in-place that'd catalogue how consistent your connection is; So before you'd press "Accept" on that Match, you'd see a disclaimer stating, "Data suggests that this Player's connection may be unstable." so you can simply choose to not engage with the frustration. I could only hope that this could be a thing for Tekken 8, so player's would be more open to the idea of a forced "Two out of Three" Ranked System.
Things could definitely be worse though. Tekken 8's going to be building itself up from an extremely solid foundation. Even if that takes time, I'm along for the ride.

@@megapussi I absolutely agree. The bottom-line standard for these kinds of things needs to be higher and upheld.
However, you have to acknowledge the fact that this is the first ever Tekken game that has ever released straight to consoles/PC, without any form of Arcade release. That's quite a drastic change. I'd imagine due to that, Harada and the team were severely focused on ensuring that the game itself and the Netcode (which is a MAJOR step up from Tekken 7's Netcode) was properly working, rather than caring about Player Behavioral issues like this.
Because realistically, what we're complaining about here isn't necessarily a game issue, but purely Player Behavioral issues. Maybe Harada thought that players were better than these petty things and thought the only necessary measure to take was the Disconnect Percentage being displayed?
Regardless and again, I feel as if Tekken 8 has an extremely strong foundation to build upon. There's certainly more that needs working on, of course. But we can acknowledge that, whilst also acknowledging how much worse things could be.

In pretty much any RTS, you lose the game if you drop the connection. It doesn't matter if it wasn't your fault.
But frankly I don't think it's actually necessary to implement this. Just fix the disconnect rate. That's good enough. If we can actually see their disconnect rate, we can boycott all the pluggers. That was they have to play against eachother. So we isolate these toxic players so we don't have to play them, and they get to taste their own medicine. Isn't this better than just giving them a point penalty?
Forcing players to rematch is a stupid idea. I'm surprised to hear Aris support this since he always seems to have level headed takes. Why should I be forced into a rematch if I don't feel like it or have to leave? If you want games to be less random, increasing the amount of rounds would be a better idea.
I am generally someone who will rematch a few times, but imposing it on others just feels wrong and unneccessary, and there are times when I too just don't want to play them again. Like if they're item users or if I want to lab something or switch characters. A tournament mode with more sets could be cool though.

It is true League punishes you for leaving, but it takes A LOT of leaving to get a real punishment. I don't know a single game that truly slaps my hands for leaving a match... But I know many games with stores and microtransactions.

Giving points is stupid. Losing points, yeah, have like a check over how many "lost connections" the alleged plugger had and penalize accordingly.

Also winning matches because your opponent disconnected is a thing that already exists in so many other games. Counter strike, league of legends, rocket league, and so many more. The best ability is availability.
Getting a default win because your opponent suddenly becomes unavailable to continue a match already exists in both online games and in real life sports. It wouldnt make sense for a player in tennis to not win a match after their opponent retires the match due to sustaining an injury mid match, regardless as to who was in the lead before the match stopped

Question 4 anyone: Is it neccissary the game tests both connections with every single person. just to tell me, NOPE. ? Cant there be a system where it tests your net at first then places you in a sector where it works with others, there by rappidly loading me into a match with someone? The current system Just doesnt feel optimized at all.

I'll only agree with bo3 mandatory if the game will actually properly check connection quality. You can easily get a huge lag even if it shows 5 stars when you accept. If opponent is cheating by introducing lag on his end after match starts, then game sever should identify who is the source of lag and instantly close the game with that player's loss.
