  • Hi I’m Michelle and I have Schizophrenia. I record schizophrenia psychosis episodes on a security camera that I have set up in my apartment. I do this to show people that schizophrenia episodes are often non-violent. I am seriously on my couch talking to myself. Not hurting anyone and not being dangerous. I might make angry faces….but I am still only sitting on my couch.

@@QuantumTelephoneI think they were saying that in order to specify, that while they don’t prevent him from having friends, he just chooses not to. That’s why they say he can hang out with whoever he chooses to. I don’t think we need to look purposefully to find fault in a parent that’s happy they found a supportive channel for their son.

It’s kind of crazy how not every hallucination is scary. I’ve got two schizophrenic friends, one of them often sees shapes moving, objects shifting, or full blown disembodied voices. My other friend has full blown conversations with people that aren’t there. His most recent one is a man calling him profound slurs.

A friend of mine her son has schizophrenia. Recently, he had an episode and walked in and killed her ex husband. He walked in and asked him how he was doing and he said oh you know. It was a bit of a long day etc he said , "well, let me help you with that. I'm going to shoot you in the head." And shot and killed him. We saw and talked today. She is a complete mess. Talking out loud to yourself is different than a schizophrenic episode. Unless you are under the impression that you are actually talking with another person that is not physically there, or there’s a voice/vision that will not go away, it’s nothing to be concerned about. If you can still distinguish the difference between reality and your hypothetical world, then you’re just doing a very normal thing when you talk to yourself.

Please don’t feel like there is something atypical about your experience. We live in a society that feels the need to diagnose or self diagnose anything that doesn’t seem “normal” to others. Countless people talk to themselves or even respond and have conversation. If it’s distressing to you, talk to your doctor, if it is not, perhaps try accepting that there are others like you and it’s part of your human experience. ❤

He's the most intelligent beautiful soul I've ever known. I personally don't 100% believe it's an illness. I think it's very possible it's an enlightenment; the ability to connect with the spirit world in ways most don't know how to tap into. It's a super power of sorts, that perhaps simply needs proper understanding or training to use properly for the greater good. I'm not saying this is a fact. It's just a thought. Having existential pondering, finding happiness within our circumstances remains paramount, despite our inability to fully comprehend our existence.

Hopefully the OP will answer your comment too, but in my experience It really depends on the person as to what hallucinations they're experiencing.Schizophrenia is weird, no two schizophrenics exhibit the same symptoms. My dad & sister are both schizophrenic . My dad gets auditory hallucinations. It's like there's a distinct random voice that he can hear in his head & sometimes it's whispers like people in another room or around the corner that he can't make out what they're saying. My sister gets visual hallucinations but not auditory ones. She'll be walking along & people's faces will look deformed & bizarre but to me their faces look normal. Some schizophrenics get hallucinations of smell & some have the terrifying feeling that they're not the author of their own thoughts & that any of their movements are caused by an outside force, not them

@@CaliforniaBear619they are auditory hallucinations, so emanating from outside your own head. The voices can at times sound from anywhere to a room full of people, whispering amongst themselves, all indistinct. They are sometimes very distinctive voices that you recognize, as in someone you know, or that you become familiar with over time. Some times the voices talk to each other without you but very frequently they are talking about you. Then they might talk directly to you. One thing that seems to be very common, unfortunately, is that the voices tend to be very negative, from what I've heard. What is less common but nonetheless very disturbing, is when the voices tell you to do harm to yourself or to others. People suffering from schizophrenia are not to be feared however. They are much more often victims than victimizers.

@@SchizophrenicNYC After watching a few, that’s what I was going to guess. I just saw your appearance on a WbMD documentary. Did it bother you that they enhanced the vocals on it? My guess was that the producers only added it for effect. But when you hear things are they distorted in any way? Or very clear? Or any louder or softer than “typical” speaking voices? Do the voices have accents? Including NY accent?😁

I am not sure what to think here…I grew up w a schizophrenic mother, and I am also a mental health advocate who has worked w many people w schizophrenia, and this is generally not what episodes look like. I could be wrong, and if I am I apologize…But I also noticed that in most of the videos you posted of different “episodes” you are wearing the same exact clothes

People need to understand that mental disease, cognitive disability and personality disorders. Kind of sometimes are code diagnosis like it’s if you’re schizophrenic or mildly retarded or autistic or even have like BPD or narcissism. It’s a likely chance that you probably have a code diagnosis even if you haven’t been diagnosed yet, I really do believe that I’ve been a caregiver for 10 years carrying all types of people and and it usually happens that way, a disability will first bring down your body and then your mind and then a mental disability will bring down your mind and then your body so yes there is no cure for these things you know not yet at least and but you can manage them with love, compassion and understanding
