500-600 hp. Standard is 525+ but Cummins come standard Gen2 Signature @ 600 hp. It's illegal to beef them up, if the DOT see black smoke and pull you over, they will plug a computer in, so will the Police! Also Cummins technicians will report you if they plug in and find the programming tampered with. BIG fines! We don't use Detroit in Road Train's much over here, Series 60 crate motors running at 500hp are okay for 2 trailers and B-doubles but struggle over the mountains here with more than 2 trailers. I drove a Kenworth 904 that had a series 60 crate motor pulling triple and Quad combinations between Darwin and Townsville doing general freight and it sucked! Lots of big hills. I drove an Atkinson Twin steer with 30' flat bed and 2 trailers, that had an 8v92, twin turbos and a blower! I was working for a drilling company in Alice Springs! I was always atleast 10t (22,000 pounds) over weight at the minimum and went 30t over once, company paid the fine, luckily, I wasn't driving! I parked it up 20 kilometres north of Alice Springs, I knew I was heavy heavy! But, That Atkinson was a BEAST!!!!! I'd overtake empty Road Trains, going up through the hills north of Alice Springs. That truck had a 22 Spicer, where as 99% of "Road Train Rated"trucks have Road Ranger 2200 box's.
Ok let's just get it properly understood...$250000 is not an average expectation. Not even excavator operators in the mines up north WA expect that much. I just got my MC unrestricted statement of attainment yesterday and just this morning I downloaded the pdf from the Australian Work Ombudsman website for the Award Rate for road train drivers as of November 2020 (update due on July 2021) the Casual Rate (grade 3; previously grade 1) is $37.16 pr hour or 0.44 pr kilometre. This casual rate goes up with experience to grade 10 (previously grade 8 at $47.16 (I don't mind aspiring to that AT ALL! And some companies pay above award-rate too. Now, as far as I'm aware your not aloud to go over 14 hours a day driving legally (and I would never want to...I mean this a heavy responsibility here). Public holidays are a minimum 8hours pay and $165 on top (per shift) for grade 3 and grade 10 gets min 8 hrs with 188 on top. This doesn't take into account Good Friday or Christmas Eve which are around 250 on top instead. If you get a casual rate per kilometre on grade 3 your looking at 0.4954 pr km with $165 on top and a minimum 500 kilometre payment. Grade 10 gets 0.5621 pr kilometre with $188 on top. Now let me just say you will be able to pull a six figure salary but don't expect to be pulling in $250000! That being said if any one DOES know of such an arrangement that doesn't involve being the CEO of a transport company then please let me know! But yeah, basically as far as I can tell if you focus on safety, never rush around and always pay extra attention...the money will take care of itself. and if your boss is pushing you around with tight deadlines and calling you while your driving NEVER EVEN LOOK AT THAT DAMN PHONE and GET A NEW BOSS! You can't believe that you can balance job security with safety. You can only choose one or the other. Choose safety and the money will take care of itself. We can always find work but one screw up and it's all over.
4:14 Saw that green one last night in a clip.. 86 wheels and tyres in service and probably two spares each per trailer? 5:44 Can you imagine that. Well the lights were green when I began to pull away officer.
We should ship north american and australian trucks to each other's continent regularly and have insane out of this world trucking shows, displays, comparison, and competitions.
I drove an oil field transport for an outlaw co. in Okla in the 1970's. We hauled loads of liquids so over loaded we could only operate under the table, if you know what I mean. My questions are this. How much does a 4 trailer transport gross, hauling water? What is the leagal limit in your country? It facinates me that you guys get cooperation from much of the rest of your country, or so it seems. Here we were treated like a rolling Cash cow. Ungodly hrs, low pay & expected to operate on dope in order to stay awake. One other trucker besides me refused to take dope to stay awake. Of coarse we had to keep that to ourself.

There are a few companies importing and converting Peterbilts over here now. The steering wheel has to swap sides for a start. Most of the other American trucks for our market are built in Australia anyway.
There are two companies importing brand new Peterbilt s into Australia and doing RHD conversation s. That is if "Kent's" still do it but the main one is Truckworks in Adelaide.
