It'd be crazy if the IDW comics just slowly included more cameos, culminating in a two-part story told across two annuals. No dialogue, just Ian jr doing something and it not being very clear what he's looking for, until the last couple panels of part two where he uncovers a single, intact, Phantom Ruby.
Ian Jr. has more appearances in official sonic properties than Mecha Knuckles, Shade The Echidna, and Cosmo. This is because he is superior in every way.
Jokes aside I believe Shade stopped appearing because of Ken Penders law suit. Mecha Knuckles I'm sure they could bring back. Cosmo I'm not 100% sure though.

Infinite, a powerful scary being who has slaughtered many people, falling in love with Ian JR solely because Ian JR was just not paying attention to him is beautiful and I want a spin-off comic of Ian JR's journey to find Infinite and set him on the path to redemption.
I remember seeing him in the symphony and being like "oh that's weird they used someone other than Gadget", little did I know the dude had a whole tale surrounding him

Ian Jr. is like Graggle Simpson. As much as we believe he's a hoax, he gets hidden so much in the official media to the point where it's just "OK, he's real and official"

I've definitely become much more interested in OC's. What was once me laughing at bad recolours with super edgy, unnecessarily lengthy backstories has turned into a general admiration for anyone who puts time, thought and effort into making a character that could exist in Sonic's universe.
Notice how you gave the key phrase in your comment: Time, Thought and Effort. All those bad recolors with the garbage backstories are lacking in one or more of those things, and the derision is good feedback.
Before this video, I didn't know who Ian Jr. was. Now I adore him as everyone should. I honestly would not mind Ian Jr. playing a similar role to Big in SA2. He's not important whatsoever but he makes little cameos here and there.
Ian Jr kinda reminds me of Derpy from MLP in a way. A once fan creation turned cannon by the influence of the community. It's awlays really inspiring to see these kinds of fanmade charcaters become official in the property that inspired them! (Also yes, before you pull an "Um, actually" on me, I know that Derpy was technically a character since the 1st episode of the show. But her personality, character traits, and even her crossed eyes were all results of the fandom. (The crossed eyes seen in the pilot were actually originally an animation error) So I'd still consider her a "fan charcater" since she bacically had her entire personality built by the community over time)

I ended up making my Sonic OC in... 2009-ish, although she wasn't initially made to be a sonic OC, just a friend drew her in Sonic Style, and I loved it so much that I started to write and draw various sonic-esque stuff for Shinzu the Tengu, and she's become one of my most beloved babies. Having Sonic Forces to play through as her got me into making her for SRB2Kart and commissioning someone to do a low-poly model of her for Sonic Adventure 2, and I just... mmmh, I adore her so much.
Sonic The Hedgehog has always been a series that inspires creativity. And Ian Jr is representation of that. Since 2010, I’ve had an oc called Speedy who’s gone from a child’s recolour to a whole unique character with his own lore, storyline, villains, allies and locations all within Sonic’s world. Since Speedy, I’ve slowly made more and more OC’s ranging from assassins, egomaniacal crazy people to whole dang alien races. Because of this, I believe it’s helped me evolve my creativity by taking something I’ve made, and making something new from it. Which is what a wide range of cute, colourful and whacky OC’s to even reimagining of characters. Ian Jr is a prime example of what the Sonic Fandom is capable of; Fun, Creative aspects beyond the Sonic Canon that let the fandom flow free.
I had never heard of Ian Jr. until this video, so thank you for enlightening me to the existence of the best Sonic character. I am starting to actually see a future where Ian Jr. is the next Big the Cat; appearing everywhere in the most inexplicable places and just getting into all kinds of ridiculous trouble. But he is never in any true danger because, obviously, he is Ian Jr. Ian Jr. is a wonderful symbol for the fun and creativity communities can have. I recently had an idea for a Sonic OC name: Rith, based on the fact my first written exposure to the word labyrinth was Sonic 4 and I thought it was pronounced Lady Rith. It's not a sonic team game, but it is official and I'm pretty sure it is cannon as nothing really conflicts, but in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog there are cameos.
I can't wait to possibly see him in frontiers but I do miss gadget the red wolf from the sonic forces trailers he's so cool and I really want to see him future Sega and Sonic Team projects along with the green bird and pink cat from one of the promotional art for forces.
I always liked him for being a non-super powered hero that uses gadgets to keep up with the others and being a heroic wolf instead of a villainous one. Plus he’s got a good enough design to be made canon.
Ian Jr. is such a great character with a great personality and a great story. This video has been the start of such a great day, and I am proud to be part of a fanbase that is so creative and open to sharing that creativity
I believe Ian Jr. and Infinite’s rivals-to-lovers arc should get a full, on-screen, official adaptation in some playable format, and I am not being ironic about this.

This actually makes me wish that the promo avatars of Sonic forces becomes official. If I remember correctly they're; Gadget the Wolf, Fuchsia the Cat, and Corvin the Bird. I'm not sure if their names are official or given by fans. I'm having fun imagining Gadget and Co. of Sonic Forces' Rookie division.

I can't wait to possibly see him in frontiers but I do miss gadget the red wolf from the sonic forces trailers he's so cool and I really want to see him future Sega and Sonic Team projects along with the green bird and pink cat from one of the promotional art for forces.
I always liked him for being a non-super powered hero that uses gadgets to keep up with the others and being a heroic wolf instead of a villainous one. Plus he’s got a good enough design to be made canon.
