    I wish arknights had a "Novel mode" for their stories, where the dialogue is laid out in a more standard book format. The stories are still quite good, but boy howdy it is painful to read a 150k word story within the visual novel format constraints.

      My take is the font size. VN text dialog usually 10-15% of the screen, while AK has 5% screen size ratio. Which easily overwhelms esp when they put 3-4 lines on the text box

      @@TokinoSora10thApostle AK actually has an engine limitation, where a single dialogue line can only have up to 4 lines, and a dialogue option can only have a single line (which is why you see extremely tiny, unreadable dialogue options)

    Hot take : Is good that the stories didn't get voiced. Poor VAs get locked up to read long tangent of a dialogue, imagine hearing kalsit talk in essay or hearing kashchey 8 hours podcast why genocide is cool

      I actually am glad that Arknight's story is not voiced because of the reasons mentioned in this comment thread. Another reason is that it can ruin the immersion if the voice acting is not done well. Which is something a lot of gacha games can fumble on

      I kind of wish there were some voice acted lines though just small bits of personality to leak through, not full on paragraph by paragraph but small things to give the voices some personality, like a gasp, grunt or one liners.
      Honestly, it's such a small detail but I feel like it adds so much to the reading experience.
      Like if a person is agreeing, disagreeing, unhappy, happy, just a bit of personality to start the line with, or to break a unserious moment with a serious line. (Like I get that would be hard for every character, but it would be nice for main story relevant once)

      In my opinion, if developers make AK story voiced, then the word count will be reduced, thus make the story more bearable.

    I'm pretty sure you misunderstood the 5* cost issue comment. The commenter wasn't implying 5* are bad and that's why they should cost less, it's supposed to be a dilemma they are having - they cost more to raise than a 4*, which are cheap and usually get the job done just fine, aside from a few exceptions that are a bit more tricky, while not as much cheaper as 6* - and we all know how stupid 6* could get just because they got e2 and their main skill is s3 or talent 2 does actually something worthwhile. I'm assuming that's what the commenter was talking about here because that's a prevalent take within the community
    Also, my personal hot take - there's definitely are bad operators, it's just... The game is easy enough to let you get away with using them, but that doesn't make them any better, it just allows you to play how you like

    I have a take... or more like a complain.. I hate i cant just pause and press "retry" to restart the stage like a lot of other games (probably caused by a coding issue or some weird error but still)

      That feature already implemented in Contigency Contrack since CC Battleplan 1. Maybe it would implemented for normal stages during CN 5.5 anniv.

    Here's my (attempt at a) hot take: we need more alters. There, that's my take. Now allow me to give my reasoning: by and large the vast majority of older characters have not had any progression of their personal stories or mysteries since their initial introduction. Characters like Cuora (who's bat and backpack's origins are as unknown as her own) or Chiave (who's part of a small group of characters who are all in desperate need of attention) haven't had any growth or development since their introduction, and even characters like Surtur (who's past is just as unknown as Cuora's) have only gotten a small blurb in an IS4 character mission where we learned more about the entity in her sword than about her. And this was true for a lot of the alter characters as well, usually up until the point where they actually got their alter and were thrust back into prominence again (the sole exception that I can think of being Gavial, who got a whole event named after and focused around herself long before alters were a thing, and even then she still got more story when her alter did arrive). So for the sake of continuing the story of characters who still have stories to tell and mysteries to solve, I say we need to get way more alters, especially of those characters in particular.

      My favorite are characters who basically got their entire role replaced by a higher profile character doing the same thing.
      Deepcolor is an antisocial artist with a colorful history and the ability to summon and control strange beings.
      Also there's Dusk.

      I agree. I don't understand that "ARGH ALTER BAD! 🤬" mindset a lot of people in this community share for some reason. like we get so many new characters that are barely relevant to the story (90% of new 4*/5* are fillers). imo it's way better to start investing vertically into characters and giving them more lore, more screentime and more alters than horizontally releasing another filler_character№147

    Uncertain temperature take : negative archetypes are a good thing, should be more present and 6* shouldn't bypass them. Units tend to get too universal, and most fun is where a unit fits a peculiar situation with its strenghs, when it does something no other unit does. Roles and subclasses are a great system and it should be more delimited.

      People simply don't like seeing archetypes nerfed without anything to compensate for those nerfs, which is what always happens (And they shouldn't) that's why everyone hates negative archetypes.
      If they actually gave them some noticeable advantage that didn't have anything to do with the individual strength of any operator, they would be better perceived.

    I'm pretty unabashed about plowing my way though the game with my most meta ops, but I do also also love to play around with "bad" 5 stars in IS more than anything. My favorite 5 stars include such community favorites as spuria, coldshot, and delphine, and it genuinely drives me up the wall when people say they're not "viable" because they're either too niche (Spuria) or they try and force them into a role that doesn't make sense for their kit (delphine. It is infuriating how people say delphine is unusably bad because they try to use her like every other mystic caster)

      I've been getting into the reverse, I've "banned" my top 30 meta units, and I try to do main content with the 240 left, like 3/4* with Skalter, but units I like that are off meta Fia need to have alternate support even when the stage allows her S3.

    I don't think adding voice acting to the VN type scenes wouldn't necessarily mean westernizing the game, just look at games like library of ruina and limbus company, they follow the VN style of mostly 2 sprites talking and they have voice acting, makes the scenes flow easier
    though I understand if they don't wanna subject the VA's to do voiceacting for the story, considering the word count of some many characters lmao

      They should do like how Limbus does it, make the main story fully voiced (hell they could use the anime's voicelines to do it) plus the Intermezzos, and leave the side stories untouched since they don't have a huge impact in the story

    I think that is pretty fun using the so called bad operators, and that the saying of "dont use that one because this other exists" its only true for the people that actually have those operators, specially if we talk about limited ops
    And i bet that the mistery enemy is a senior armed millitant

    I don't think westernization is the term you were looking for at all. In fact, I don't really agree with a lot of what was said and had trouble following the logic there. A plethora of east asian visual novels have a lot of text and/or have full voice acting. Granblue Fantasy is significantly older and is fully voiced in Japanese. Path to Nowhere is younger and has full voice acting in multiple languages (Further ex. Steins Gate, fucking Bible Black, most east asian visual novels actually). Plenty of western vns are not voiced including the very cursed Coffin of Andy and Ley Ley.
    Arknights in terms of voice direction seems to take it cues from Fate Grand Order (who's other vns are voiced). Assistant dialogue, barracks voice lines, and in combat lines are voiced. Everything else is not.
    This saves on download sizes and more importantly money. AK hires pretty unknown, non-unioned VAs for most of the roles. They can afford it. You can solve the other problem by making it an optional download.
    At least AK has like 5 voicebanks per character.
    Fun fact: Yato JP is voiced by the voice provider for Hatsune Miku

      Hot take: I don't really care about most of the bear units and actively dislike Gummy.
      Hotter Take in context of the last: I like Nearl, Spicy Nearl (Degenbracher), Doberman and Ray.

    I think there's a difference between the emergent gameplay of finding operator synergies (like cycling between Suzuran and Virtuosa S3s to kill everything, or somethink as simple as putting Blaze behind a defender) and the devs making an operator class that's borderline useless without a specific other operator "supporting" them. AHs are the closest thing we have to this forced synergy working, but at least the individual operators function on their own.

      The main problem with the game I think are:
      -Lack of Quality of Life features (the biggest one for me)
      -The way the story is presented, I have no problem reading it. But I think the presentation turns a lot of people away
      -Powercreep, it doesn't matter much in a PVE game, but still.
      -Its a gacha game with the usual thing that comes with that
      Overall, I can say that these problems are basically nothing compared to the absolutely insane drama and shit that other gacha communities get into lmao. And I also think the QoL problems are mostly from the game being old by gacha standards. Thanks for reading my yapping (or not).

      @@HMN134 to be honest, is the way the story is written IS turning a lot of people away, but sometimes that's the sacrifice you should be willing to make to have high quality stuff. I'd rather it be that way and get Lone Trail, Hortus de Escapismo, Il Siracusano or the recent main story chapters than having something accessible but with the quality of Genshin or Wuthering Waves

      @@edgieststalker8141In genshin there are some truly evil people who, without any excuses, get to be playable characters. Like, we still got the dommy mommy who raises child soldiers on our side, her only 'redemption' was the fact that we got to help put her childhood friend to rest.
      In arknights, we got a genocidal dragon lady who, trust me bruv, is actually a good person now that she isn't being mind controlled by an abusive kidnapper, despite the fact that she still pretty much works for the same organisation that participated in her previous war crimes (Sure, these guys didn't do as much bad stuff, but noone tried to stop her or leave before she got defeated)
      The thing with arknights is, the villains have their own goals that are directly against the main cast. If you have been paying any attention to Genshin, meanwhile, uh... You and the "evil" organisation that all those villains are from are literally on the same side since day 1, the only gripe that the main cast has with them is their much more extreme methods of achieving their goals. In fact, the Fatui can be considered to be the only sane people in a world of madmen if you take outside knowledge into account about what happens outside of teyvat.
      Both arknights and genshin try to show the better parts of some of their villains, while condemning others. Like, even the seaborn in Arknights went from "eldritch undersea abominations" to "well they are just scared and want to help the world in their own way" over the course of their current story arc, if you wanna complain about unnecessary justifications. Arknights just tends to show its world as unnecessarily bleak for the shits and giggles. And it is bleak to the point of nonsense.
      In fact, Arknights is the "I am 14 and this is deep" style of storytelling taken to its logical conclusion.
      Besides, if you walk up to many people and ask them "hey would you pull for this evil character you like even if it made little sense for them to join your side, after all they just drowned an entire orphanage in front of your eyes" they would just give you a weird look as they are giving away their credit card. People love villains even if they do bad shit as long as they are charismatic.

    oh also i actually read OD in its entirety which means the first story/event i read completely ever so far. i really enjoyed it, and if every event was as concise as that, i think i'd be more inclined to read the story. it's just...too long for me most of the time

    The reason operators that need support is that they are not good, in most cases, for low operator clears. High end arknights usually calls for as little operators used as possible.
    This aspect of High End Arknights saddens me, because I really like operators like Hoederer, who really shine when used with other operators.

    The visual novel format is not a problem, the problem is that the dialouge seems to be intentionally dragged out without adding anything of substance. I feel like this is the usual take; good story bad writing. Trimming the writing (or maybe its the translation Idk) would not be westernizing the game.

    To add some context to my 5 star comment, when I started the game I got very unlucky (without knowing it at the time) with siege as starter 6 star so I had to make do with the 5 stars I had managed to get. In which I hadnt gotten much luckier with the likes of Indra and Ayerscarpe being my best laneholder/area DPS options (just two examples). Most events I struggled with my teams until I got medic droid woman (I forgor name) who's 15% SP talent made a lot of stages that otherwise felt impossible, much easier even with most my team at e1-70. That is why I say a 15% SP cost reduction would fix most "bad" operators, because for me it did.
    As for cost effectiveness of 5 stars, thats a one time problem per op, but I wouldnt mind seeing 5 stars go from upgraded chips to the basic (not needing to be put in workshop) forms of chips. This would make the upgraded chips feel more special and also reducing the sanity cost a non-negligible amount.

    For the reading the story, I love the story of AK and for the most try to read it when I can, but I do admit some parts can go on and on, like reading between some stages takes 15min or more. I've always been recommending this in the surveys they give, break up the story segments more, instead of 8 15min make them 16 5min segments.
    For the 6* and balanced game one I disagree with the no 6* AK isn't not an easy game even with them and it already is niche so making it the dark souls of strategy games would limit players even more and besides if you don't wanna use 6* you dont have to because as the other said it is pretty balanced. Also can we take a moment to appreciate how hard it must be to make so many new maps, enemies and bosses and make sure a strategy game is balanced, I would imagine it would be a lot harder to balance it around all the ops in AK then a lot of other gacha games.

    I don’t think Detroit:Become Human was heavily drawing from visual novels. They’re more so drawing from adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. These kinds of games go back a very long ways, all the way to the beginning of videogames with titles like Colossal Cave Adventure and Zork. You could arguably call visual novels a sub-genre of adventure games.
    Additionally, I don’t like the idea of a game or genre “westernizing” or “easternizing”. Games developed post-globalization so there’s always been a lot of crosstalk between the east and the west.

    Time for another Mystery Enemy!
    This one was not as easy to crack as the last one.
    at 25k HP we are talking either a chunky elite or a squishy boss. At 20 RES and 1.2k DEF, we definitely want Arts damage against this guy. While 1.2k DEF says they hurt, but a good defender, like an E2 Cuora, could reasonably stall them. Even if they had about 3 million HP rather than 25000. Yes, I am guessing our nightmare-inducing Friend R-11 Assault Power Armor, the rocket-shooting robot from Dorothy's Vision. (And POO, but we don't talk about POO.) (RO15, Base Form).

    Here's my hot take that normally shouldn't be a hot take: No 6 star operator can ever be bad. By default, they will always be better than lower rarities for having higher stats and an extra talent. So if you ever see someone comparing a 6 star to a 5 or 4 star unit feel free to call him a shitter.

    My problem with an operator really wanting a support is whether there is an accesible option for the support. I like Nymph and want her but i dont have virtuosa.
    I can use her S2 without her which is nice, but it sucks that I can't use her S3 unless I spark Virtuosa 💀
    If we had a decent four star that maybe didn't have the best damage but had a decent kit and enabled Nymph, I wouldn't be bothered at all.

      @@CreamNeapolitan have you actually tried building and playing her? She is not up to scratch. her uptime with Nymph, especially in AoE is awful. She does not solve this problem.

      @@lily-_- she's good enough for a 5*, however that's beside the point. The point is if you want to utilize the full-elem damage part of Nymph S3: you CAN have Val, a welfare that everyone can access, to help her pop the elemental bar and have Nymph S3 do her thing.

    My issue with the Primal/Ritualist thing is that Primals CANNOT function without the Ritualist (Or in Warmy's case, Ifrit with Delta). It's one thing to benefit heavily from Ritualists. But to have their entire gimmick locked behind another class? It's awful design.
    Nymph S2 works on its own because it's not focused on her element.
    Nymph S3 is just unusable without Arturia backing her up.
    Primals should inflict their own element by default so they can actually use their own kit. Ritualists should be a buff, not the key.

      I'm fine with having to build 2 operators to be strong together for several reasons.
      1) Some operators just have more power than they probably should so I don't want every single operator to be that powerful, that would 100% ruin the game if it ever happened. If you had a squad of 12 Wis'adels then HG would be forced to buff the HP of every single enemy just to make it moderately challenging. That would literally be the worst possible outcome.
      2) I also play games with the primary perspective of a collector so I don't mind just building an operator even if I'm not sure if I'll ever use them. If I do get a chance to use them in the future that feels good. i.e. RA was particularly rewarding because there are a lot of operators that were basically forgotten or obsolete that have meta uses in RA and I had built many of them.
      3) This is probably me just lying to myself using the community as my echo chamber, but playing 2 operators that are considered weak by the community together with powerful results feels like I'm being big brain even if I'm probably not.

      I like the base idea of the primal ritualist combo but yeah why is the kit entirely locked away, just make them not as good without ritualist
      and the fact that the only real enabler we have is arturia is batshit insane

    Would absolutely love to see another "hot take compilation" video.
    Here is my hot take: The hardest content like DoS/POO/Hell stages should be the most rewarding content in the game, and there should be more of it. BUT it should be available permanently, so every player would have the opportunity to eventually "git gud" to clear it and receive the rewards.

    Modules were never intended as a buff to weaker operators btw, HG never made a statement saying that.
    This is just a wrong assumption those players made and it is their own fault that their expectations are not met.
    Modules were simply another way to give operators some extra power, it was never stated who was gonna get "good" or "bad" modules and why.

    my hot take is that arknights should think a little more about their niche communities, i came to this amazing game because i was promised hot furry males and stayed for the game as a whole (i love everything about the game) but it´s been over two years since they release mr. lee, at this point i'm satisfied with a 4 star

    also imo modules need to work like how azur lane does their augments and make them more personalized to the operator their attached to and it frees up what modules can do instead of just giving an extremely negligible buff to that operators branch they all share

    Actually I play arknights on the bus on my commute... so skill issue xD (could be that transit is better where I live though who knows.)
    (I tried to play VR on a bus once and threw up within the first 10 minutes and I don't get motion sickness in any form usually, but God VR on transit was me having actual room temp IQ... Wonder if apple vision could handle it)

    Yeah, the problem with "reading" in Arknights is less with the format (though some adjustments in structuring and readability would be nice), and not with the story, which is usually at least okay, but with the writing itself. Arknights is Purple Prose:the Game. Things that could be effectively delivered in two-three paragraphs are getting stretched into several dozens of lines of dialogue, sometimes either repeating itself, or getting too busy delivering pure exposition.

    To the point made about Detroit: Become Human being a "westernized visual novel", I disagree. It's an interactive movie. It is a surface-level comparison to make considering the multiple-choice dialogue, but several games have that, and they wouldn't be considered visual novels.
    I wouldn't enjoy Arknights' writing *more* if it were presented in D:BH's way, because the writing itself is egregiously verbose. I don't mind reading encyclopedia articles about a given subject, but there is no good reason why I should be sitting on a dialogue cutscene within Arknights for more than half an hour and still be reading. Sometimes less is more, and I feel like being able to tell a compelling story does not also equate to forcing word salad upon the player.

I once had over 1000 Orirock Cubes, 200 Orirock Clusters, and about 25 Orirock Concentrate. In less than half a year, I had used up all the Concentrate and Clusters, and had less than 100 Cubes. 0 Originium farming, it all went just to upgrading operators.
      If you haven't experienced something like this yet, you just haven't gotten and upgraded the Orirock-guzzling OPs yet.

    about the schedule, i think the rythm for event is good enough as it is now, more would be too much. But a great alternative, and one that Hypergryph already understood is to bring more permanent game modes with great replayability in the game. Reclamation Algorythm is in my opinion one of the best idea they had. The gameplay is different enough that it feels fresh and enjoyable. The issue is that once you're confortably installed ( 100 days or so ), it start to get very easy, boring and repetitive.
    about the story, i'm gonna say i am very surprised at how many people hate the prose in Arknights. From my point of you, it's some of my favourite writting in any story i have read ( and i consider it very impressive since i can only read the story in english, and i am used to read in my native language, French, which is known to allow one of the best prose, ellegance, and variety of words out of all the languages in the words )
    Some part of me want to just call everyone criticizing Arknights prose uncultured pricks that are afraid to read a sentence longer than 3 words, but at the same time i acknoledge that it must feel a bit overwhelming for people that aren't used to more sophisticated litterature.
    But when you look at what other gacha propose as their story, their worlds might be interesting but Arknights is lightyears ahead of those when it come to quality, writting and character developpement. I tried to play Wuthering Waves at launch and finished the first part of the story, and i can confidently say that Arknights is way better despite being harder to absorb

Pooping clears the mind of unnecessary information, and the lack of distraction in the bathroom helps us focus

    the only place you should enforce "meta" upon yourself, is in the Base, as trivial as it may be
    if you're comfortable with it, if your lineup happens to accommodate it; you don't get to argue with math, don't be lazy, either you pick the right stuff or you don't bother thinking

    RE 5's Sp and Cost. I would like to see hypergryph, do like *rebalance* for older ops to help them at least keep up with power creep. Just slight improvements on occasion like slight sp cost reduction, slight increase to skill modifiers, tiny base number adjustments, talent number adjustments nothing to extreme. something I def like like a little QoL patch notes every 6 months for ops thatre 3+ years old kinda thing.

If you're a f2p or low spender (hello welcome to the club champ) u need to be able to make priorities for these banners and skipping what you don't want as much makes those you do get all the sweeter and you won't like every upcoming limited so you'll have plenty of time with the 6 month foresight.

    Damn these are... where do you even start?
    0:45 - I agree, Op pairs are fine. I've said before that other gachas don't give so many slots that AK does, so having two ops who need each other is fine in the grand scheme of things. And if they nuke the map? Even better!
    2:38 - Who the fuck says we don't need sweep?! I still have runs break even on new events. I don't know what's going on here, but the auto-deploy is not trustworthy and it fucking sucks to spend time having to fix a broken run and watch over it to make sure it doesn't break again. (Which ruins the point of auto-deploy btw).
    7:13 - I have the opinion that the writing just isn't good. Maybe they got better, but the dialogue and pacing were so sluggish that I couldn't bother past chapter 8. And make no mistake, I have actually read books, and I get so immersed in them it's unbelievable that a human can write something so amazing, so yeah AK needs to pick up a book and see how the pros do it because this ain't it.
    9:45 - I think IS should actually have more Risk/Reward implemented. If you want randomness there's a thing called Deep Investigation. Maybe not what this guy wants, but it's there.
    13:20 - 5 stars are FINE; the scaling of enemies does not require 6 stars. Don't get me wrong I still use 6 stars, but mainly because they happen to be characters I like. Other than that, I use them when I just don't give a fuck about a stage and want it out of my way, so having them as a nuke is great for those times. Also, I refuse to believe in that dogshit "Investment" argument. If you're new then yes, I can see the argument, but if you care about meta, then let's be honest with ourselves and admit we were never gonna consider 5 stars anyways yeah?
    15:48 - The horse is so dead you're just kicking dust at this point...
    19:11 - Trying to keep up with events, old and new, and also trying to do my self-imposed challenges is a pain. We absolutely need more dead weeks. Maybe now that I'm a year in things will change soon, but it has not been enjoyable to be so rushed.
    21:40 - 6 stars are optional. Don't like em? Don't use em.
    26:50 - Seriously, people everywhere seem to think hot takes are something else entirely.
    28:06 - RNG ops mentioned, what else is RNG? Dodge is RNG. Who dodges? Flametail does, what is Flametail? A knight. What are knights usually? Horses. Where are the horses from? Kazimierz.     Alright lemme elaborate about the SSS take.
    I know a lot of peoples who dodge it, hell there is even a few who thought it was still as bad as it's release I made them try it out they were impressed how it changed the sigma of how bad it is is still here so that why I think it's a hot take.
    As for your takes Kuma I find most of them pretty cold too.
    For you first take you are right, but there will always be peoples obssesed by the meta so will always talk about it like there is others who doesn't care and just play casually. In every games there is always a meta and it is how it is.
    For your second take, it's true too especially if you are a old player you will end up having a good roster.
    And imo that your last take who it's pretty hot because some rngs are bs if we talk about everything in the game and you say it yourself you are playing the game because it's a tower defense not because it's a gacha there is probably others peoples like you who play the game more for what it is and not the gacha itself.

    Here's a hot take:
    The discourse around the game would be better if there was a toxic pvp mode. Since the game is playable without being a metaslave but meta players still exist there's an innate disconnect in what is good/strong vs what is viable due to differing skill levels. Whereas if there was some garbage pvp mode then everybody would come to a consensus about which units are good or bad relatively quickly so there would be a category of "not pvp viable but they clear pve just fine" units that the argumentative types wouldn't care as much about. Kinda like how in games like Civ there's a ton of singleplayer viable strats and basically any civ is usable if you know what to do, but multiplayer has a different meta where margins are much thinner.

    Anyway, jokes aside, it's not that the people who found your post rotted their brain away from actual hot takes, or anything like that, rather it's that people, in general, just don't have hot takes, but they think their take is extremely unique so it must be hot too, thus becoming a hot take, when such things don't work like that in reality, you can go anywhere and ask for hot takes, 99% of them will be the coldest thing you've ever seen in your life and then the other 1% will be so hot you suddenly realise you spent 8 hours thinking about it somehow, and now you're way past deadline and have to somehow stitch everything together to hopefully not cause too much trouble

    On the 5* build cost take, they are definitely screwed over by opportunity cost. You're probably right in that it's something HG shouldn't mess with this late into the game but it was definitely a bad decision at the start. It is roughly a 1:2:3 ratio for 4*, 5*, 6*. On average, a 5* will not be adding double the value of a 4* to your roster. Conversely, the power gap between 5* and 6* is very significant.
    My personal pet peeve with this is that I've seen the general way this is expressed be simplified from "4*s are worth building, 5*s aren't worth it" to "4*s good 5*s bad" and a lot of people won't have the first hand experience nor the interest to find out that's false due to not building any 5*s beyond the few that are considered worth it by the community they're inserted in and already painted as exceptions.😔
    On your hot takes at the end since I feel like engaging:
    1 - Agreed, at least when it comes to the way the bulk of the community does it.
    2 - Agreed.
    3 - That isn't at all contradictory. Rng sucks, that's true for both operator kits and gacha, remove both. Gacha plays no role in my enjoyment of this game.

    My take, likely at room temperature, is that I wish alters and originals were linked such that you could only deploy one of each character, kind of like how Amiya works with her classes. The maybe slightly hotter take is that IS3's slightly branching upgrade system was far superior to the more linear upgrades of IS2 and IS4. It doesn't really matter after enough runs, but I still liked being able to actually set an upgrade goal and focus on it rather than gaining points and having to do A, B, and C to get to the next ABC set.

      They used to have it so you could only deploy only 1 version of a character for a long time. Then they changed it to the current system during Texalt's event after a lot of community pleading. It's a lot more than just a room temperature take, its genuinely the hotter of your two takes.

    sour take: single stage record-level optimization can be very irritating and annoying. it feels like it has the reputation among niche players of being peak strategy gameplay -- and while it has its share of impressive moments and ideas, it's more often than not buried in grinding skill timings and RNG. kinda makes me wish a load savestate button existed in the game after a stage is cleared for the first time (keeping the same rng seed, and maybe with a few edits to the RNG system to compensate), which would solve any and all complaints i have.
    without RNG: it's often just binary searching skill timings, which can take forever on its own. certain stalls can take 5-15 mins with plenty of precise timings to get to the interesting sections, why should trying to test a timing take that long?
    with RNG: finding a consistent strategy suddenly goes out the window and it's easy to shuffle your operator positions trying to find any microoptimization that gives you slightly more consistent clears. which implies even more failure.
    that said plenty of the hard stage records feature insane ideas, and kudos to anyone who finds them or has the patience to grind them out
    i LOVE ethan rng, some of my FAVORITE moments are when he MISSES 3 onskill binds in a row and now i have to RESET THE STAGE

    My hot take is that clairvoyance is heavily overrated. It kills all the hype about the lore and makes it so that all the gameplay aspect is already done and discussed when stuff reaches EN. And while I understand that being able to plan your spending is valuable... People need to be ok with getting caught off guard and missing an operator or two.

    Kinda disagree with your point on my "modules lost there way" take.
    You pointed out that the community is already agreeing on how ridiculous modules are (which i agree with you), but that wasn't my point.
    If you go back to cn 2nd anniv Livestream and see the oart about modules, the idea of the system was to give the ability to "customize" your operators playstyle and help undertoned operators to be more fun to use (cn stream unofficial translations).
    My point was that most modules nowdays are only "x is better then y" and not "x is good for this and y for this" (which is kept on the abyssal hunters modules, its either the really good module for non ah team and the pretty good module but its for all the ah team).
    But in all honesty, your talk about enemy powercreep got me interested, please make a video about it.
    Also heres a hot take that i got from watching you, the "if you dont like it then just dont" mentality in the community isnt a positive thing.
    "If the story is too long for you then just dont read and watch summaries", but i do want to read! Its just that i dont have time for 6-8 hours of story in the next 2 weeks and the final boss (for grinding stage) is a big spoiler!
    "If you dont like 4*/5* being weaker then 6* then just dont use them".
    And what if i want to use them for being unique? Why do i have to pick either max strategize team with 4/undertoned 5* or ez mode with 6*?
    I can just put that "weak" unit in my "meta" team but that would just feel bad (part of the reason why i dont really agree that ak is SUCH a balanced game).
    The idea of "if you dont like it then dont" is like saying to look the other way when things i dont like happen and act like it never did.
    Also just to reiterate my point, im not typing this out of being butthurt from you telling my take is meh, its more about explaining myself again since you missed my point.
    And my added "hot take" is more about biase that many of the community share (which can be seen here as well) that not liking part of the game isnt ok and you should either be quiet or stop playing (that part).
    And again, your video about powercreep in enemies will be amazing!

      But for real tho, how would you create a game where you have hundreds of characters with different costs, stats and mechanics, but all of them are at the same power level? Theoretically you could balance out the dps and skill cycles so that everyone is literally the same, but at that point, aren't we sacrificing variety? I realize that balance isn't the same for everyone, but since I can use all the ops I like, many of which are considered literally unplayable, the game looks very well balanced for me

      I was still doing chapter 13 when Zwillingsturme came out so I did all the event stages except the last one
      and then the EX stages came out which required me to do the boss I think?
      like I don't mind if it doesn't let me do the last EX stage but why lock me out entirely
      I normally devour the stories, but sometimes I just don't have energy or time
      This case also made me think the event cycle with its shop is too strict and only hurts the game
      Yeah the archive is there but why must my experience be diminished over that
      I don't have a well thought out solution but surely others also see that the systems are clashing here, the story deserves better than this

    tbh i don't understand gacha communities' obsession with voiced story content. i see complaints in *certain* other games where people act like the unvoiced story content is worthless. and yeah i get that having audio and stuff makes it more immersive but these games don't have infinite time or budget when they need to pump out updates every few weeks
    then again i play gachas on mute like 80% of the time, and skip stories so i can read them on the wiki later because i hate trying to read on my phone...

Instead of wasting like FGO players manually farming the same stage over-and-over again. And every gacha game has FOMO, the entire industry is built on FOMO. Live service games are built on FOMO.     What's funny is even your hot takes weren't hot takes
    While there's a large group of people who push the meta there's also a large group of people who push that it doesn't matter (there's a reason the quote "there's no bad operators just bad doctors" exists and every new CC to arknights is subjected to this quote since it's not a minority group thing)
    F2P isn't really impressive it's just smart for most people it means they have self control or are spending that money on things they deem more important and you'd be surprised how many people are F2P to dolphin/fish level
    I won't lie I've never ever heard about anyone complaining about RNG operators but maybe that's just the circles I'm in, personally I love wacky units like that and people love operators with silly gimmicks like Conviction and Mr. Nothing with his RNG skill 2
    I think the reason there aren't any real hot takes is mostly because arknights as a community is so much larger than it ever used to be and everyone has created their own groups and opinions based on that and it helps that arknights IS well balanced instead of a hot mess where every new operator outshines and outdoes anyone before them which plagues most gacha (there are definitely hot takes btw though tbf usually they'll be things that are just insane or ridiculous)
    That's my 2 cents though I could also say my 2 cents on the other hot takes but I doubt anyone would want to hear all that lol

    "Westernizing" the story doesn't really make sense... Of course that would be pointless? Of course it's a visual novel?
    To me it's kind of like how anyone might be hesitant to pick a book. I suppose it's a hard to explain feeling that maybe people with ADHD feel more heh...
    And I guess any actual writing criticisms from people who *do* read most of the story. "Too much shit to read", "Nearl is horrible Dorothy is amazing"... etc.
    And well, outside of the MSQ there will always be a little time-spent dissonance that takes the story from supplementary to the game to, the game supplementary to the story.
    At any rate, I read most of the act 0 story and Knights Treasure and whatnot because I was new, then maybe some operator records or I'll skip past the first few parts of the chapter/event before feeling like picking it up... but as I'm this far into the game I wish each new event/chapter didn't have the disinterest like it's a fanfiction reading assignment lol...

    I like arknights lore, but i hate the way they were telling their story. It is so imbalanced to the gameplay that if you want to know the story. You have to sit your ass down for like 30 mins to read the goddamn thing just for you to clear a stage in less than 2 minutes.
    The new reclamation algorithm implements a very nice ways to tell their story. And i actually enjoy the story that way. YOU CREATE A GAME, then tell us the story through the gameplay. If you want to tell me the story by reading millions of paragraphs, then i rather buy a book instead of playing your game.

    eh, the problem isnt that its a visual novel, the problem is that its a bad visual novel. your legit better off reading the story on an external website where you dont have to tap between each sentance. that or deal with an auto play that's either way to slow, or just fast enough your gonna accidentally miss something if you have a lapse in attention.
    also i think you misinterpreted what tyaty said, its kinda a common complaint tha 5*s are a bit expensive for how mediocre most of them end up. if they where cheaper, then them being bad would feel like less of an issue. as even if they end up super niche , it doesnt feel like you would have wasted many resources raising them. they wherent saying that some 5*s should have aribitraily cost less, but that all 5*s should cost less, so that the bad 5*s feel like less of a waste to build.
    as for my hot take, im a bad judge of temperatue, but base and recruitment just sucks ass. im tried of doing 5 minutes of chorse every time i open the app. its legit 60% of the reason i quit the game for the first time. its barely barably now that theres a colelct all button for missions, but honeslty if they didn't implimented it i would never have come back.
    also jesus christ can we stop debating about what the definition of "bad" is?

    yeah idgaf if it sucks the fun out of the game i want skips for any stage that requires being farmed, last time i checked the fun of the game doesnt come from watching your funny auto deploys play out it comes from literally everything else nobody likes waiting for a chance of getting a mat you need i would rather get it done and not have my time wasted

    Here is my hot take: we need to stop having reruns, and HG should consider releasing a story with no new 6* operator banner, because reruns for people who already cleared it before is just glorified deadweek, after some time they should just add those events directly into the intermezzi/side story tab without needing a rerun, because there are so much cliffhanging stories that need to be told, when will Mlynar find his brother? Maria is said to have the golden pegasus blood, when will we develop more with that? What happened to Siracusa and Lappland after IL siracusano? What about the whole things with Lemuen? The main story arc 2 still hasn't finished yet, we still has a lot more to tell, there is no clear sign that the arknights story are reaching midway point, let alone the end, we have 5 of the sui siblings, so we at least have 5+ more years for the rest of them to come, the story does not come out fast enough. I need more.

      More like a jobless take, ak is a live service game that gives content at a very fast pace, dead weeks are needed, if anything you havent seen how overwhelmed people felt when RA, TFN and a new event were happening at the same time

      @@novyknec1113 like I said, all will be added to intermezzi/side story with full PO included with first clear, plus if you think having a job makes you don't have time to play games you are clearly mistaken. Each events is like 1 day reading the story and 7 days farming, interupted with ex stages release in between. I don't even go RA or TFN, those are non lore related things and highly optional, even the skins are optional, RA is also a permanent mode, you can do it anytime. Judging by story content, a9 is severely lacking, another game that is neural cloud which is a side game from GFL has more story, released 2 years after a9, each events lasted for a whole month, yet somehow still has more story than a9.
      Plus he asked for a hot take. I'm sorry that a dad that has 2 full time jobs can train enough to beat a tekken champ while you're here complaining that a slightly faster story schedule will make you unable to enjoy it, not everyone is playing 50 gacha games and then complain they have no time, and I asked for new story than a full events, which can be accessed anytime, most people would skip all of them anyway.

      @@qgvinh8614 you are also not thinking about the devs the dead periods are also time for them to make the next event or future events especially in Ak, where most events always have something new compared to the rest, you just want everything faster so the dead periods feel worse, lol they need time to come out with the event.
      The story is being stalled for a reason not because they are lazy, and funny you put as an example GFL when they are literally not completing a story that isn't even worth 9 years.
      Most gachas operate with that kind of act of stalling the stories making you want more even hoyogames do that, because thats how you run a story in the long term, if they run out of history content they will reach a dead point.

      @@novyknec1113 I don't talk about GFL, I'm talking about PNC, or project neural cloud, its side game, and if you're actually playing it, it has one of the best story I have ever read in gacha games, each charater banner comes with their own background and stories, the main stories are fantastic, easy to understand, without me needing to google words from another language like how a9 handles its IL siracusano story.
      Funny you said that because HG has been making 4 games simultaneously, with ex astris, endfield, that one game on steam, and the new leaked IP, if they really lack the time, they wouldn't have spread their human resources so thin, it also due to the fact that they need to come up with something unique every event, which is why it took so long, I genuinely do not need it to change that much, just release more side story events that reuse old events mechanics, it it how PNC keep up with their constant flow of new stories.
      One final thing is that since the start of a9, the reunion arc has finished years ago, and the victoria arc has spanned as long as it yet it hasn't even finished yet, and this is like, arc 2, which took 3 years already, that's the average time a tripleA game is developed, and by this point even if a9 main story ended at arc 5, which I highly doubt, it would be another 9 years, that's honestly way too long for a gacha game, people have been clowning FGO for being ancient and zombie game carried entirely by the Fate fans for living that long, the game could've died at any point before that, and I am too invested in this world to accept that as a possibility. Honkai impact 3 is the only game in the hoyo family that is worth it, and its first major arc had already ended, the one that has most of my personal favorite characters like Mei, Kiana, Bronya, Himeko, now I have no more interest for the next one and can move on. Both Genshin and Star rail story felt off so drastic I left them there, and I do not have any interest in ZZZ, this kind of live service games that has an overarching story literally cannot be judged normally because they're in a pepetual state of "to be continue", stop making new cliffhanger for each thing and focus entirely until one of them is finished, the Kazimierz story is not finished, the Siracusa story is not finished, the Aegir story is not finished, I won't even have this much gripes if at least one of them is finished.

    Supah is right. Collab operators are crippled by design, 3 stars are useless since you can invest in any other unit _(instead of building then you can use another unit, a e1lvl55 4*/5*/6* will be superior to a three star)_ and a nicheknights will always be inferior to a regular optimal team _(including abyssal hunters)_

      3 star is like a blessing for is2 and is4 though, and kroos being better than all 4 star marksman at e1 as well while not cost any additional mats for promote is really helpfull for new player

      They're so damn cheap,alongside one and two stars,and give very good amounts back along with base abilities.
      The LMD cost for maxing out a six star can be used to max all one,two,and three stars,and that amount includes the IS specifics you can't even upgrade with LMD.

    22:00 wait these are hot takes? but they're right though? the game is decently balanced as far as general content goes (my account isn't built enough to do much with CCB/DoS/TN/etc yet so I can't comment on high-end content like those), and if someone truly _needs_ strong 6*s to beat the game then it's a skill issue. I think this game has managed to dodge the mentioned "power creep trap" due to its nature as primarily being a tower defense / strategy game, which makes just inflating the numbers a bit more... unwieldy? to implement compared to something like a rpg as the design space for strategy games better allows for more possibilities in the way of difficulty scaling outside of "bigger number".
    also the enemy is Dorothy's Vision power armor

      Lol I am glad to see agreement, though it was a bit of a hotter take a few years ago before more people started playing with less 6-stars. Like oh boy, me saying Surtr is "not that good, mousse can do about the same AND survive"? Some people really didn't like that, so I kept my 'anti-meta' propaganda to myself and friends from then on. I wish I didn't let that interaction push me away from the fanbase for so long though, lots of chill people it turns out.
      My more recent hot takes are more geared towards enemies and events. Like, the Cleaners in Il siracusano, I believe that to be the easiest gimmick of them all.
