My name is Gary, too. Those are the books that I first read Conan in. Introduced to him in comics about 1970 then started the books. I really liked them as well as the later series from the 80s and 90s, though they weren't as good as Howard. I recently did an episode on a Conan story from the comics and will do more in the future.

Gary, nice collection as always...and yes Frazetta was a master at making fantasy come alive.. I echo your sentiments on capturing REH and ERB on film...it’a definitely not like capturing Ernest K Gann or Alistair Maclean. The Conan, Solomon Kane, Tarzan, John Carter books and others have a wonderfully sublime, phantasmic/mythical quality about them not translatable to the film medium. Same thing can be said for Ray Bradbury and others. I always maintain that the human mind is the greatest theater of them all. It’s a shame that so many people consider the book to be the “step-child” of the filmed story.

Great video. I am also a lifelong Howard fan. Those movies were a disappointment to me. Conan would never spend years of his life pushing a wheel like a mule. That was just stupid of them to do that. He would die before being a slave like that.

Absolutely, Frank, how many hours, or maybe minutes, would it take him to get free? He would be gone almost as soon as he was captured. Great comment.
