4R75E Transmission Teardown Inspection - Transmission Repair

- This is a common problem on '04 and up 4R75-e transmissions. On this video we can see the damage on the forward drum plus the normal ware that you expect to see in these units. This being a 4X4 unit, is more prone to ware and off road use.
He is right about high line pressure blowing the end off the forward drum. However, there is more to it that needs to be addressed OUTSIDE of the transmission. On older Fords they are programmed to start with, and maintain, a higher engine idle speed to help light the catalytic converters off. Cats won't work until they reach a very high internal temp-like 1200 degrees, or something crazy like that. As the cats age it takes longer to get them up to temp where they start working. Ford, recognizing this situation, programmed their vehicles that as they age they will idle HIGHER, and will idle higher for longer, than a new engine does specifically to get the cats up to temp and working as they age. The problem here is people that jump in their vehicles, start them up and then instantly drop them into gear.. When the idle is high, so is the line pressure! When the engine is cold-so is the trans fluid which easily makes excessively high line pressure when paired with a high idle. We see BOTH the end of the forward drum blown off, and the band pin anchor on the reverse band broken off. Yes, the Sure Cure kit will help.. But ultimately telling your customer to let the idle drop below 1,000RPM BEFORE engaging F or R will ultimately stop this problem from happening. So, the entire fix is a two part process. The Sure Cure kit (or even the Trans-Go kit), and then fixing the nut behind the wheel. I find it much more difficult to fix, or control, the nut behind the steering wheel. Transmissions are easy. Those "nuts" are the challenging part.
one thing I learned from this - I'm not going to try to rebuild my own transmission
I want you to rebuild my my f 150 4r75e transmission . your the kind of guy that we all wish we could find. it's obvious you know your transmissions wow! very impressive!
I'm not a transmission guy, but it is awesome to watch an expert like you do this type of work! it really helps to see the internal components of various models as well as your expert explainations of them. Keep making videos, you are a trans God!
I have an F150 '08 5.7 and the transmission just went out, no forward or reverse. If I let it sit and cool off it will go into either forward or reverse until the fluid heats up, let it sit for an hour and it goes again. having it towed to a trusted mechanic but I want to have a minimum knowledge of part names and a minimum idea of what conditions can cause what problems. when I do visit the shop I won't stand there bug-eyed when I hear what needs to be done. I'd rather spend the money on an excellent repair than have a truck payment. Thank you for the easy to understand explanation.
It's hard to find a good and trustworthy transmission guy these day's
I lost you have 3 mins of the video, never seen a person take apart a transmission so fast and explain every part of it. Great video, will most likely keep re watching it to learn about transmissions.
What's all that noise?
Amazing video by a master at his craft. I unfortunately just started having transmission problems with my 2007 E350 Van at 182,000 miles with the 4R75E trans (failure to shift into high gear). This video was illuminating going to drop the pan in search of metal and see if I’ve got any codes.
It's good to see that true professionals still exist.
To the man in the video - a master of his craft. Not one moment of doubt or confusion; every part could just toss aside because he knows every part like family. You're the best I've ever witnessed, faster than any and you had to slow it down to accommodate us.
This is the best teardown video I have ever seen. The whole trans disassembled in 32 minutes. Impressive. And to include the explanations as well proves that you are a true master builder. Kudos to you sir.
This video is an education. It is comprehensive & exceptionally good. One of maybe (3) on all of UA-cam that is serious & extremely well detailed. This gentleman is giving a little history as he works, early models, how they differ...Only very capable people can incorporate that as they work.
This guy is a genius. I know he's probably done this a few hundred times maybe but for me to look at all those gears and plates and metal is like an impossible puzzle. Why they make these things so complicated. Good lord
This makes me want to commute by bicycle, you may as well be operating on people with so much complexity! Very well done sir, you're a rare breed!!
Going back and reviewing old videos. I am rebuilding one of these now, so I'm also taking notes on what to look out for.
This guy knows his shit.
I watch this video and this is the transmission we will be working on in fanshawe as our lab assignment. I find it to be very informative and easy to understand. thank you.
Thank you my brother. Very straight forward and to the point. Very good delivery of the information. Most of all you know your transmissions inside and out. Props to you for sharing your knowledge with others.
Good stuff - thanks for your analysis on why the failures happened.
