Dude. I'm getting ready to swap my oil-guzzling 2012 XV (crosstrek)'s FB20 with an FB25, and I'm reading and watching as much as I can beforehand to just cram the knowledge in. Even though this has been excruciating for you to to this point, I want you to know how much I appreciate you posting the process. I've been learning a lot.

Just rebuilt my son's fb25 and after I had them service I went from going What's Valve lash (2 months later) I now have become an expert using a trim removal tool to remove and add shims on a mounted cam carrier. Also after mixing and matching the rockers and shims I had I only needed 2 to be in spec. :)

I feel your pain sir! Been rebuilding a FB25 over the last several months and there have been so many times I wanted to go drop it off a bridge! I had to walk away from this several times. Just the procedures as provided in the service manual are excruciating! I am amazed by your tenacity! Thank you for making these videos as there is very limited info on these newer Subaru engines!

Fascinating stuff. Hoping to never see the inside of my Forester 2.5.😅

Might be a decent idea to get a new cam carrier and from Subaru or just used heads+cam carriers from the picknpull/salvage yard if you've got a decent one near you with a rear collision forester/crosstrek that matches your shortblock.
I was one of the ones who told you you could probably put a 2.5 into your crosstrek when you originally posted the video about the engine blowing. I still stick by my statement that I would probably keep everything stock if it was my own daily-driver type of vehicle, but this series has been very fun to watch.
Appreciate the content and hope you don't get too burnt out from the project. I know I have before.

Right now the videos are lagging a bit behind IRL and I don't want to spoil too much, but I'll just say that there was a period that I really really considered new everything from Subaru. But it's so dang expensive! just for cams/carriers it would be the price of a low mileage running motor. If anyone else attempts this swap, JUST BUY A WHOLE RUNNING MOTOR haha
If I wasn't "youtubing" this build, I would have also probably just stuck with an FB20 since it's our daily driver ATM. But hey, that's the fun of doing youtube stuff, it gives a good excuse to push yourself and do exciting things. My wife hasn't enjoyed not having a car for this long though haha
Thanks for the suggestion and watching the build!

@@ReadySetProjects I respect your patience in doing this swap.
I'm helping a friend with a BMW that he's swapping a 6 cylinder w/ an automatic tranny into(from a 4 cylinder manual), and this is my first engine & tranny swap. Kind of a big headache trying to figure out if the ECM, wiring harnesses, etc. Also had to swap a bunch of other things because all the accessories(power steering, AC compressor, etc.) all go on different parts of the engine and now we're going from a 3 channel to 4 channel ABS, so we need brand new brake lines, etc. We need a new drive shaft, because the donor car is a Z3, and the original car is longer.
All very much of a headache when it's not even mine. I can definitely sympathize with the hassle of doing something like this.
Sounds like you've got it running now or are very close to it. Looking forward to the rest of this series!
