Hey Justin ... when you finally put the battery in your rides.... A little trick take a little axle grease and spread it on the terminals end's((( (cover all the lead and steel nuts and bolts))))) after you've connected them to the battery.Keeps the acid and everything from eating in to the nuts and bolts and corroding the ends.... I don't like the spray because it gets all over everything.... I like the grease,,,, been doing it for years... Also does not interfere when jumping battery Take care junkman do
I smear my battery terminals with dielectric grease. In fact I use it on bulbs and sockets, and pretty much all electrical connections. Really makes a difference!

My dad did an early 1950's Beetle up with the help of a workmate who was a spray painter by trade, they spray painted it in a light blue (sky blue) colour & built it up into a Baja like this one :- assets.hemmings.com/blog/wp-content/uploads//2018/07/1973VWBajaBug_03.jpg The best thing he did to it was to fit a 12 volt alternator onto the engine & I think it ran an external electronic regulator in it. For the accessories & dash lights, he connected a wiper motor resistor in series with the electrics but he did use the 6 volt starter motor, the ignition coil was converted over to a 12 volt one. The battery was obviously a 12 volt one, as far as battery voltage goes, 6 volts should start the car which has a 6 volt ignition system in it,the generator voltage should be about 7.2 volts or between 7-8 volts above idle speed. The downfall with the 6 volt generators is that they don't produce enough current at idle speed to charge the battery so a swap to an alternator is a good option. We were talking about that a bit at tech in 1996 when I was studying the electrical trade. He sold the car to a member of a Volkswagen club in Australia such as yourself who had more access to parts for it & he couldn't afford to register 2 cars,so it was a regrettable sale !
