Steve for president 2024!
Then he wouldn't have time to hunt and make videos
He'd eminent domain everything and turn the country into one big national forest.
Indeed!
so all of us will become a hunter
#2024PSR👍
@flip twins I would love to see that ticket. MAGA
I love how they show the emotional struggle of an off shot. Very wholesome.
Doug is the hunting mentor every kid needs.
I 100% empathize with Brittany and how she feels when her second deer didn’t die right away. That feeling of remorse and stupidity that rushes over you is so powerful and can bring people to their knees. It happened to me last year and I made a double lung shot. It’s tough on a novice hunter to experience this first hand. She kept her composure and trucked on. Good for you. The feeling goes away over time and experience. Don’t let this discourage you. Learn from it.
YES happened to me 2 years ago I'm 56 it was very tough experience!
Once you experience it you come to terms with it. Iv hit deer with a high lung shot before taking out the spine. She dropped right on the spot but took a very long time to dispatch. I slit her throat but because she was bleeding so much internally it did nothing. She was just trying to suck in air in through her throat that i had slit. It was a lot to deal with, all I wanted was to finish her and stop her pain. I decided out of desperation to stab her right in the head as hard as i could. She twitched and then was still. I sat down next to her, gave her a pat and said sorry. But it happens! And it will happen again i have no doubt. Thats the reality of it. Im a trained infantry soldier and it still shook me a little. But i learnt a valuable lesson. Sometimes you gotta be out of your comfort zone and get your hands really dirty!

I think we need to remember that, for the vast majority of game animals, a hunters bullet is the quickest most painless death they could experience. Even when they not perfect shots, if you approach the experience with respect, you are giving the animal it's place in the food chain. It's place we should all hope to end up reaching as painlessly as possible.
@@ericbailey6779 well said!
Doug never disappoints!
He’s a beast
Doug is the man.
This was such a wholesome episode.
I love when you feature Helen and Brittany. More episodes with them please!
Comfortably Numb as a campfire song, I didn't think I could hold Steve in higher esteem, I was wrong

That was a long wait between two videos. The struggle is real.
What would life be like without complications?
Right? Whew...glad we made it....that was a long week
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
Absolutely loved these two videos. Helen and Brittany are true hunters. They got their first experience of deer sounding squirrels. LOL!! That feeling Brittany had when she shot the buck I truly respect and appreciate. Also... Helen not taking the shot on the doe was truly perfect. ID your target. Great job. As far as having the safety on. I've seen that happen to most experienced people.
Mr. Duren is the epitome of an outdoorsman and land steward. No wonder he has been a regular on MeatEater! The team at Meateater is far above the other outdoor content critters. Thank you for providing wholesome American outdoor life content!
I want to see Steve take a youth hunter for there frist deer 🦌

Him taking out Pete Alonzo is pretty close I'd say.
How about a 27 year old 😁
Yes!
Brittany's mole is to die for!! What a gem🥰🥰
9:10 nice you guys included that look on her face and reaction. Even if it's just a deer you should feel that responsibility.
People who dont feel bad for their prey worry me. It doesnt stop you eating meat and hunting, but it makes you a more ethical hunter.
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
Despite being non-theist, I sort of pray to the spirits of the animals I kill to thank them, atone, and wish them well in whatever the next life may be.
@@michaelbonnet590 I do the same thing. I tell the animal thanx fir it's sacrifice to feed my family. I do my best to waste lites possible and tell God thanx for the opportunity to hunt such beautiful and delicious animals.
I love the patience and tone of conversations Doug has with first time hunters. We all could use a mentor like that
Brittany learned a valuable lesson and had Doug there as a mentor and friend. It's not always pretty but she should be proud of herself. I'm glad she asked if she could finish the job if needed. She didn't lock up and turn away. She stood and watched the life go out of her quarry. Not a great shot but she did that buck the honor of witnessing it's passing. As real as it gets.
I was raised in Southern Wisconsin. Can’t tell you how awesome it was to see Steve take these two women to such a great property and hunt deer. Something special added when men and women hunt together. Love this!

I’m from SE Wisconsin - have enjoyed bringing my teenage daughter the last couple of years. She hasn’t filled her tag yet (skunked first year, missed this year) but being able to share the hunt together is incredibly rewarding.
I enjoy watching the ladies hunting - all the best girls enjoy the sport 🦃
I can't help but be quietly moved by the heartfulness and purity of these young ladies. I'm inspired to teach my sister how to hunt now out here in Australia
hey, if she watched these shows she might might come ask you to teach her. My cousin did, now she's one of my best hunting buddies.
It sucks when you don’t make a perfect shape but I have to give props to Doug for comforting her and reassuring her
Fantastic episode!! Great patience, great shooting and I give Helen a ton of credit for her ability to hold back. Absolutely fantastic!!!!
What a great episode. Steve is totally dope, and he knows his stuff. Every episode teaches me something different about the great outdoors. Love this show.
Been there. Thanks for showing those tough lessons many of us had to learn the hard way.
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
Love Meateater. Love hunting in Wisconsin.
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
This right here is why I love seeing new hunters, glad Brittany tagged out and got the full experience of hunting, that buck not dying right away will stay with her probably forever, but it will also teach her more patience and that there are highs and lows when it comes to hunting, great episode!
These two gals are the best. Love watching them learn the ways of the woods!
I never tire of the information and assistance that Steve and his cohorts are happy to impart to all who are happy to listen, great follow up video, can’t wait for the next one

Pulling the trigger in low light conditions is the reason to get a top quality scope .I have top quality European scopes on my 257 Roberts and 6.5 Swede and yes they expensive but they have fantastic light gathering and clarity at those last minutes of light. And yes I do have a few American scopes and like them also but My go to rifles are the above. P.S. from New Zealand.
Brittany a compassionate Huntress. It’s touching too see that level of respect for an Animal 🦌👍🏻💚🙏
As all hunters know, it's serious business when deciding to hunt and take a shot to kill your quarry. It WON'T go perfectly 100% of the time. There is no PERFECT. Hunters understand that, it's respect for the life of the animal you choose to hunt and eat; it's also the understanding of being part of the cycle of life and the food chain. If you hunt long enough, you will have that reaction when it's not "Shot. Immediate dead animal". I appreciate that the MeatEater crew shows these real-life facts and the natural reactions of those who hunt. Kudos to you all on a great example of the reality of hunting, without making it into a "reality" (ie"scripted, edited to appear a certain way) show. And you show relationships between the humans that you are documenting. Keep it up. Hunting is not a male-only thing, never should have been from the beginning but we're getting better and more inclusive as we evolve.
I'd happily see Brittany and Helen on another episode. It's cool seeing two city folks learning to hunt, and loving their experience. There must be more opportunity for these two to appear on the show again.
I love that he chose Floyd for his campfire song🤙
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
Congrats on all the deer those memories of your first one never fades 😁😁
I am so glad Wisconsin got rid of those back tags about five years ago now! It is so true about the challenge of shooting in between trees. And sometimes you judge it wrong and don't see a branch in the scope but it's there and totally throws the bullet off course! Nothing wrong with taking a few does as well. They taste better anyhow!

This was a great Part 2. It was videoed as real as it gets. If you have never been deer hunting or squirrel hunting, this was a great experience to watch. So many pointers. and good and not-so-good moments as far as trying to be able to see whether a doe or a buck. In one split second, it can be a great kill or a serious mistake. Hunting takes patience and understanding about what you are hunting and where you are hunting. But more important is to know your weapon of choice. Know your surroundings, make sure before you pull the trigger that the noise you hear is your target. This was a great training video for everyone whether experienced or inexperienced. Great job and a terrific video.
Spotted Cow. What a great Wisconsin beer! Great episode.
I sincerely appreciate this episode. I am looking to experience a lifestyle where hunting is a part of how I feed my family. I never had parents who did this, so seeing a caring, attentive and helpful father is wonderful in this is great for me. Also, the women's reaction, appreciate, and respect for the animals and doing they best to reduce suffering due to shot placement is absolutely remarkable. We should give reverence and respect to the animals we kill, as they sustain us in sacrifice. Thank you for producing such a wonderful piece with such a wonderful family and good people.
Restraint and respect. that is a great combo for any hunter.

“These birds are magical “
Awesome as usual! Loved that Pink Floyd rendition by Steven! ;)
It’s a powerful feeling to take the life of one of these amazing animals. When it all goes right it is but also if some little thing goes wrong it’s even more so. It really gives you perspective on the actions you are taking and drives you to next time take the extra time, make extra sure to honor the life you are harvesting. And then to honor it once more by treating the tasty meat in a way to just enhance it.
It would be cool to see Helen and Brittany on a waterfowl hunt
What a hobo dinner rookie Steve. 😄
Steve and Doug . Great job getting new comers into the woods.
"Wait, Doug, can I finish it." Tough girl......🤠👍
There is nothing in the world as gratifying as introducing someone to hunting and participating in their success
Thank you Steve for another great video,Doug is a trooper man for letting you hunt, congratulations Helen and Brittany on your hunt's
It showed how much we as huntesr love the animals, when she felt genuinely sorry for her spine shot. Then when her elder showed her empathy and explained it to her, that was perfect. Good job, none of us like poor shots
Another cool episode with the ladies! And it's awesome to see them drop the hammer and getting it done!! Congratulations on y'alls harvest, and I'm excited for the next hunt y'all go on.
Greatest hunting show out there keep coming steve
Love to see when new hunters get their first deer
Can't go around moving water. That was funny.

I really enjoyed the 2 episodes. Thanks.
I have never been hunting but god what a privilege you have to be able to share that experience the first hunting experience of laying an animal down with someone I know you guys don’t take it lightly It’s so awesome
These girls are great. Steve you have a great show and man this land is great
Great stuff ladies and your support 👍
they are certified hunters now welcome to club we are glad to have you
I was born in 74 too Steve. Oh how I wish things were simple like they were back in those days before social media ruined the world. Saturday morning fishing shows and wrestling plus cartoons... Man ...
I understand completely, I was born in 65

Great hunt and AWESOME LOOKING FOOD😋...great job on this🙂👍 Please keep em comin. Peace ✌😎
Outstanding
Great job 👍 Ladies and congratulations on your hunts.
Thank You Steve for sharing

Great video!! On Wisconsin!!!
I completely agree with the lady’s assessment of squirrel hunting. I’ve only gone a couple of times myself, but it was enough to turn me into the dog from “Up”.
Great video, good teaches gentlemen. And 👍 on the spotted cow. We endulg while we're in Wisconsin
Living in the Midwest with private land must be great. I am lucky if I see that many deer in an entire deer season, archery and rifle combined.
Loved it, thanks!!!
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
man what an awesome content I love it wish I can meet you some day steve
Great episode, hard to believe we were less than 90 minutes north with no snow all gun season
Just putting meat on the ground all day. Great representation of WI opening day. Looks like a great time and a great experience for all involved.
Hi from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures brother
You got a lot of nice deer country about an hour away. Befriend a farmer around Clyde, Savannah, Seneca Falls and enjoy 👍🏼
ua-cam.com/channels/NMd4iaLzix4LntyivimVlg.html
Awesome video
Very good show
Damn Britney you really got me emotional with that drop!
Congrats
Love your raw emotion girl!
However let’s remember that death he received is far better than being dragged down by coyote’s mauled by wolves eaten by a bear or just otherwise starving because he can’t make it to food anymore
Good stuff
Through the brush, so awesome girls !!!
Those bad shots are hard to deal with. They make you a better hunter tho. Makes you wanna make sure you stay on top of your shooting skills so the animal don't suffer. I'm so glad this show actually shows all the sides of hunting instead of just the highlights. Hunting is an emotional roller-coaster which is part of the reason I love it so much
These chicks are awesome
Good show
give those two a hunting show...they are just two awsome personalities
More videos with these two girls their great
Dam I just want to go hunting with Steve!!! I love his videos
We all know that Doug Duran brought up how good New Glarus is to them at least 3 times. And he also bragged about how its only sold in Wisconsin
Mmmmm Dat Spotted Cow
3:05 Love the smile
"It's a fucking squirrel"
I feel that Doug.
Steve singing some pink floyd-comfortably numb
Spent the last couple years in the U.P. and must say I've never been anywhere the deer were so plentiful and easy to take!I'm sure Wisconsin is good but, man, nothing compares to that area I hunted up there in Michigan...
Congrats!! At the end all you need is RICE and CHILLY PEPPER to go with the venison.
“Look at that fat f*ckin squirrel” 😂😂😂
Reading all this comments with Steve's voice..epic
Brittany's buck was the best "bad" shot possible. It's unfortunate it didn't die straight out, but at least it dropped. I've seen to many gut shots and leg shots that kill me every time. It's a test of the hunter if they can power through and go out again and pull the trigger.
I better get my long bow out and start practicing!
Am I the only one grining ear to ear while watching this?
Steve is THE MAN!!
Its good to have a good old faithful spot.
"Sometimes when you're killing it can be a messy business" if that's not something I'd expect from dexter 😂
No worries for missing. I had a decent buck once walk up to my weak side and I turned around with a 50 caliber muzzleloader and shot the tree beside him. This was 2007 and it still makes me mad! Haha
Yeah if you end up making a poor shot a clear miss is the beat you can hope for.dad and I missed the same fork horn a week apart.we found his slug in a tree 😄
Nicely Done Ladies, you had Good Teachers!
JO JO IN VT 💕😄

It’s almost sad to say, but this year I’m planning g on tagging out early on in the archery season, hoping to get some waterfowl hunting in later... things usually don’t go as planned though.
My plan too. My pups prefer upland game and waterfowl. I only need two doe as my youngest is going off to college and we will be empty nesters. I'll take a big buck if it comes by though. Hoping to fin a cow elk or calf too, but that won't be super high priority.
18:45 LMAOOOOO

I want to buy a place in Fon du lac after watching this!!!!
