It's called mortar, and he's using a 2 step mortar. First step called "1️⃣ Prep" which is a form of underlayment used on certain surfaces. The second step is "2️⃣ Set" which is the mud that he "back buttered" the tiles with, back buttering is where you put the mortar on the tile rather than the floor. I'm no professional but I've done it a lot in flip houses. Never used the prep shit, just durock and mid

What is the cement called for the surface prep ?
I’m wondering the same thing i always see it in videos and would like to use it to level before doing floors but just ended up using Henry floor patch.
