This time around I'm playing the intro and outro pieces. The intro is "McMarch Reprise" and the "Variations on a Theme by Paul David's". And yes, that's me playing the piano behind the keyboard section as well. They are the chord changes to Jackson Browne's "Dark and Silent Gate".
For years people have been asking me to make a studio tour video so....here you go. I hope you like it.
    Thanks for watching.
    All the best,

Dude, I hope someone at PBS or the History Channel comes across your channel because I could hear you narrating historical documentaries or specials. You have a voice for doing voice overs. Cool studio btw

I swear we were separated at birth Keith. The moment you said “John Cleese”, my mind played “And now for something completely different” a split second before the video did, Lol. Very cool room too. I had no idea that much “tech” went into it, but then again I should’ve known. Your videos have high production values!

This is seriously the most Zen channel I've ever come across, not just in music, but in life. When you are focused on a goal you see things more clearly, and therefore you use what you need and get rid of what you don't need. You repurpose anything around you like an LED screen or a lit sign for extra lighting and get everything serving the one purpose. I'm not a believer in multitasking, as I believe the definition of multitasking is doing many things at once, poorly. But there are times in which we don't have a choice. The Zen way to do many things is do them one at a time, one after the other. So write an outline for an episode, write the script, organize the gear you will use and film the gear you will use, then get in front of the camera and film, then edit. Do things in a linear way, and you will see how much faster and more efficiently a project comes to completion. I like Keith's methods. There is great thought involved here, not just for musicians, but for organizing life.

I grew up in Syracuse, my family was there for 3 generations prior. Most of my friends can't wait to leave, but I always thought it was charming in many areas. Many fond memories of heading to columbus bakery every Sunday morning, and I'm happy to see someone speak positively about the area in general. Even seeing the style of your place on the hallway shot was nostalgic, super comfy!

Really like the upstate vibe Keith, I am originally from "The Island" but learned to respect your neck of the woods during the years myself and three siblings lived in Syracuse (them) and Buffalo (me).
I'd really like to hear you play a bit by the way, I think it could fill in one tiny gap in an intriguing persona.

Small world - My Dad was born in Albany, but raised in the small village of Valatie (ever heard of it? About 70 miles north of Albany), graduated from Syracuse. My cousins also grew up in Valatie. Our most educated cousin also went the higher education route. She graduated from Harvard, then Princeton, and has spent her career at Cornell and settled with her family in Ithaca.

Beautiful clarity, focused on the why behind EACH piece of gear. The sensibilities about the subtleties of lighting and miking and baffling are key and can probably be the only thing needing much more emphasis. But that could be a whole how-to series on simple audio and video recording techniques and considerations.

The just enough gear has profoundly affected my purchases. Being forced to retire due to health issue , my level of gear had to suit me with no exceptions. If I dont use it , it gets sold, and I buy what will work for me. I'm not really affected by GAS like many musicians suffer from, thankfully. This channel has been perfect, thanks Kieth

My neighbor, a sailor, has a small but good studio in the basement below my room. He recorded a couple of songs for a local radio station. Sometimes at 11:00 in the evening he starts howling (singing), but I let him enjoy himself. I am 62 but in hart 17. I was like that when I was younger. Then there was no PC or such things, but he would unscrew a 30 watt lamp with a 12 speaker and hit. Sometimes even in the evening. His grandfather once came down from the floor and asked me to be quiet. And many of my colleagues had the police come to their door because a neighbor was bothering them.

This so hit the spot - really - 18 minutes of nerding out - I loved it. Thank you. PS - in regards to the TrueFire line, is it bad that as opposed to “instead of” shopping for another guitar I hear “in conjunction with”?😂

I absolutely adore this channel. Informative, and more importantly cost effective music content is absolutely something we need more of. And, I must confess, you’re a dead ringer of my grandfather - he’s a biology teacher up here in Scotland, and I’ve always found that kind of humorous.

Bravo, Keith! You've made me want to finally get my ass in gear and make my basement "music area" (which is really barely-controlled chaos of synths, guitars, pedals, amps, and rando recording shit, like that green Joe Meek compressor sitting idle on my bookshelves) a proper studio. And I'm not surprised that Zac gets so much out of his simple rig- he's a Tele Guy through-and-through, after all!

Hey, Friends… go to this The Five Watt World merch Store and buy a shirt! I asked Keith to come up with a long-sleeve “Five Watt World” T-shirt in black for me, and told him that if he did, I’d buy it! Well, he not only came up with a black shirt, he also had a nice blue one made! So, what else could I do but buy one of each? They’re not only great looking shirts, they’re high-quality shirts, with Keith’s Five Watt World “Tube” logo on them. I highly recommend that you buy one of each! Thanks, Keith! When I saw the “Five Watt World Studio Tour”, I just HAD to check it out!!! Nice job, as usual, Mr. Williams! I’m going to watch it again right now! But don’t forget to be nice to Keith and buy a couple of his shirts! You won’t be sorry! And Keith, about the mic pre “warming up” the sound of your voice? It’s NOT your imagination. It REALLY DOES DO THAT, and you sound GREAT these days! You should try my RCA 77 DX just once, just for grins. THAT’S A warm mic!

Keith I always enjoy your videos and your dry wit! This was a very informative video about the audio capture and video lighting you use. Glad you found a new house with features you need and use. The explanation and the difference between the "least amount of gear" does not necessarily mean "little gear" is so true! I own a sound and lighting production Co. and teach sound in churches. Sometimes "less is MORE" applies definitely to live audio to an ever moving "bull's eye" that we strive to hit each time. Again, thanks for all your wisdom!

And finally I'm watching a studio tour that truly vibrates with me. Even all the musicians' studio tour looked more like they were halfway to becoming a big producer's setup.
