Crazy enough, I was less than a week old when this happened. My mom told me later that she'd taken me out to the Legends and when we got home, she turned on the TV and saw that the tornado was going through there. Crazy to find footage of it now
I lived by racetrack and saw the tornedo from my backyard!!! It was aiming for my home and I raced to my basement and 3 min later half my house was gone!! Thank God for my basement
If the people wanted to go to the underpass, I say let 'em go. Maybe they had nowhere else to go. They survived it anyway, can't get hit by anything, yet they still tell them after it passes..... It's dangerous to be in a vehicle as well.
No one made the argument to stay in your vehicle. If no shelter is available, the basic guideline is to lie flat in the nearest ditch or ravine. Also, the tornado missed them, and yes, they absolutely CAN get hit by anything. The winds in the underpass, specifically up in the girders, are amplified in the tighter spaces, like when you squeeze on a garden hose, the water shoots through that tight spot much faster than it does anywhere behind it.
This actually went through my front yard in tonganoxie. We watched it go across i70 then go into our yard and then take a sharp turn going east to kc. I was 7 or 8 at the time. I’ll never forget it
5 houses up from us, everything was wiped out. Our house only had a branch slam thru the wall, others weren't so fortunate. I remember a girl I went to elementary school with (I had just been out of HS 2 years) running down the street screaming "My house is gone!"
I saw a Stokepipe Tornado which was nearly an F4 (it was on TV) and the Commentator said he ripped the "asphalt" from the ground - i am still lookin for it .. only marks know is "Asphalt - 2003/2004 - Kansas/Kentucky and F4 to F5... it was a decent Twister not movin 50 miles a hour more like 10-15...
Uh, yes we did. The myth that underpasses are safe was busted during the Oklahoma City 1999 tornado when literally every person hiding under an overpass on I-35 in Northern Moore was sucked out and a couple of them were killed, the rest being seriously injured and/or badly bruised. In fact, at 7:07 in the video, the cop advised them to not go under an overpass next time.
6:05 DO NOT hide under an overpass!! had that tornado made a direct hit, that overpass would amplify the wind speeds inside.
yes very very bad Idea.
Lie on the ground in a ditch or ravine and cover your head. That's a myth about underpasses.
No

Yall gotta remember in 2003 we did not know yet that an underpass is dangerous to be under when a twister strikes

Nice!
Video would have far more views with a different title. Something like "F5 tornado caught on camera" would be more appropriate for views.
Not for broadcast great! Put that in your discretion for legal purposes
You shot this at I-70 ?
Arya Bintang Ciputra Has to be 435 not I70.
Haven't seen this one First video I've seen of the early life of this one before it wedged out
"It's a twista"
Duh Duh Duh, which way did he go george.
