  • We make it to the next division of the Book of Revelation. Having left the address to the 7 churches, John is called up to the throne room of God to see what would be happing after. Chapters 4 and 5 are all part of the same section where John will see God's judgment poured out beginning with the seals of chapter 6.
What we have in the preceding 2 chapters is John's description of the place and in chapter 5 we see Jesus stop forward as the Lamb who is worthy to open the scroll.
These chapters are filled with images which John attempts to describe, but cannot fully do so because they are not of this earthly existence. In such cases we are best served to look at what they are, potentially, but if we are not provided answers we must refuse dogmatic conclusions. What we must see is the big picture of it all, and that provided as much as anyone could want to know and learn.

    V. 4 - yes! I have heard over and over that 12 are the sons of Jacob and 12 are the apostles and that has always been confusing to me. No Moses? No David? And, which 12 apostles? The 11 plus Matthias? Then, what about Paul? Yes - Scripture doesn't give us the answers and we must not twist ourselves and the Scripture into knots. If the Lord wanted us to know who these 24 are, He would have told us!

(Heb 1:2 kjv) whopper speculation but maybe some of those 24 are from other worlds!
