Just came back to say Thank you! I had this ussue 2 weeks now. Just opend the blinkerpart, very mudy n dirty. Just cleaned it now its fine again. Keept me 30€ for a new Part.
Thank you for that simple to follow. I did mine following a different video, but yours was clearer. That one said to clean the circuit board tracks with an eraser, which I did not have so I lightly brushed them with very fine sandpaper until shiny. I did not have any grease at the time, but the procedure is so easy that I can open it up again and apply when I get some. The wiper stalk was playing up so i did that one at the same time. (2005 XC70 petrol with 222,500 miles)
Thanks dude, in my case my high beam stayed on and I did no know so my battery keep die, replace the battery because off course mechanics will screw you for anything possible and the problem persist it but he says was not related, thank you Volvo Dealer for the 350 dollars spend for nothing
Awesome! Glad it helped!! Great car by the way, I wish we had some diesels over here in the US, I used to have an 05 V70R, and it'd be fun to have that side by side with a V70 D5 ;)
I’m having an issue on my V70 where the high beam likes to come on when I use the right turn signal. I’m gonna go ahead & give this a shot, thanks a million!
I’ve had the issue twice. Once was just a blinker issue, the other was the blinker and the high beams were intermittent. The connections are all so close I hope this will fix it for you 👍
@@diyhowtoandreviews Unfortunately the issue ended up Being the actual mechanism of the stalk. Fortunately, I picked up a good used stalk from my local pick n pull for 15 bones. I still cleaned & greased the contacts for good measure before install & all is good now 😎
Thanks a million, my indicator plays up on the odd occasion as does my wipers ! so I am fully armed on how to go about tackling this relatively easy repair for both stalks 👍 (I am assuming the wiper stalk has the same set up !) Thanks again.
My menu dial doesn’t work properly. Sometimes it does sometimes doesn’t work. If I hold the arm and a little bit move up and down it work or suddenly change information on the screen such as I dial the menu ring. So I will try this on my switch as soon as possible. Thank you my friend.
I’m not sure if cleaning the contacts will help with that, but it won’t hurt. I have a similar issue with my heat/AC blower knob. Sometimes it turns up and down easily and sometimes it jumps around, I think the contacts inside are dirty.
Great video for sure.....but didn't fix my problem....my xc90 high beam head lights don't come on and the high beam light on the dash doesn't light up...I believe the problem is the stalk. Any ideas on how to fix my high beams not coming on? Thanks. Randall
Sounds like there may be a short or bad connection in the stalk or somewhere down the line from there. This fix should apply when the brights come on but don’t stay on or flicker. Sorry, wish I could be of more help.
I'm having the same exact issue with a 2016 XC90. Seems like the solution is probably the exact same? Quoted $1200 P&L to replace! Gonna try this instead when I get home!
Instead of di electric grease, could I spray some deoxit d5 on a cue tip and wipe that on the contact instead? Only asking because that's what I have handy and it saved me from junking the car when I thought I had broken the computer lol 😅 I washed under the hood and caused a transmission code, thankfully I found out through the trials and tribulations of others on forums that this deoxit d5 in connectors in the transmission sensor connector tree solved the problem, as it did mine! It says on the manufacturers description that it can be used to clean and protect potentiometers like volume control knobs, and it looks like this is a similar thing... And also, you are awesome for sharing this info. I was about to go pay $60 and pull the whole thing off a car at a junk yard and cross my fingers. I felt like it was a corrosion issue but couldn't be sure how to fix it without messing anything up... Somehow I was fortunate enough to find your video. I subscribed to your channel since I'm sure you've got other helpful Volvo vids (and sometimes they are just fun to watch for general insight) thank you!!
Thanks for the kind words! At the end of the day I just want this to be helpful so I’m glad it was. I haven’t used deoxit from from what I read it looks like it should work since it’s safe for conductors. Honestly the dielectric grease for me is a “it can’t hurt” option. If it gets me another 6 months before I have to clean it again then it’s worth it, but it not like I’m going to an A/B test on DG vs nothing 😂. Good luck!!
Also I may have to get some and try to fix the prevalent Volvo heater knob issue where you have to get lucky to turn the fan speed up and down. That’ll be my next video 😂
@@diyhowtoandreviews nice! I didn't know about that issue lol but I am just discovering the "leaking coolant on the floor mat" problem which apparently $2 worth of o rings will fix if I'm lucky. Man your fix worked perfectly though. Works like brand new now! I had to align my sets of 3 pins too as I noticed the middle ones were low. I went ahead and bumped them all up a little with my q tip just in case... I cleaned the contact with alcohol, then applied a light coating of deoxit d5, then put some leftover silicone grease around the perimeter but not on the contacts, figured since the deoxit d5 is a conductive protectant, I wouldn't put anything over it, but wanted to seal the sides to keep dust from entering. The deoxit d5 is something I highly recommend. Ive used it for so many things and still feels like the bottle is full 😂
It could be, the dirt/debris/corrosion on the contacts is what causes the issues. I’d give it a try since it easy. Besides the contacts I’d wipe the entire board down to clean it all off.
I am going to attempt this procedure today--but my lever has the "message" button on the end. Will this affect this procedure? I also don't have any dielectric grease--Is it necessary to use it?
Nope, you will be fine, mine has the message button as well. Also the dielectric grease just gives it a little more protection. I’ve done it in the past without it and it works fine, in theory the grease should help keep it clean longer.
I’m experiencing a similar issue with my 04 XC70. High beams and turning signals are completely out of service. Along with that all of my steering wheel radio controls and some of my cabin lights aren’t working. Before I try this method , is there a possibility that these issues are linked to a fuse or relay?
I would doubt it, I’m my experience fuses (always) and relays (almost always) are a “they work until they don’t” part. Also the blinker and high beams use different fuses, even for passenger and drivers side (4 fuses total). You can check, but all 4 fuses would have had to blow out at the same time, again very unlikely as in the 04 XC70, the fuses for lights and blinkers are even in separate boxes… I’d bet a whole lot of money on it being the switch 👍.
I’d give it a shot. All of those issues are from dirt or corrosion usually where the signal either shorts out, doesn’t connect, or bridges to the wrong circuit.
Thank you! That worked like a charm, all the buttons of the switch are now working better and are somewhat more clicky and nicer to operate!
Glad it worked for you!
You helped me save my customer $100+ by not needing a new switch, thank you!
Glad I could help!
Fixed mine in 30 minutes thanks to dropping screws because fat fingers - thank you for a simple guide!
😂😂. I edited all my mistakes out, glad you found it helpful!
Mine snapped in half so either way I had to spend 100. But you helped me stay away from scam mechanics! So still thank you so much.
Mine just did too. Who did you order from?
You´re the best..., you saved me 100 Bucks and it´s also a nice strike against the throwaway society!

Excellent video. Having the same trouble myself. Mind you, my S80 does have 173,000 miles on the clock, so it's about time something went wrong!
Thanks! 173, she's just starting to stretch her legs LOL. Hopefully this process will work for you.

I haven’t when I’ve done mine. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt but this is on a circuit that isn’t live when the key is off anyway.

Does this effect all of the functions on the stalk?
The blinkers and high beams for sure, not sure about the dial or button on the end as I’ve not had issue with those.
Thank you for responding 🙏
When i try to use my highbeams, they dont stay on. Will cleaning them help that too? Or do i need to buy. new switch
Is the procedure the same for the left indicator? My right one works fine.
Yes, it’s likely that just one side of the contacts is a little dirty and acting up.
Does this also work with the high beam which is part of that switch?
I was a having issues with that as well and it helped. The contacts for the high beam are in the same area.
When I put on my high beams my right indicator blinks also. Would this be a similar fix?
