*Qunari anywhere else:* We must enlighten the ignorant in the ways of the Qun
*Qunari in the Anderfels:* * *looks at the Blighted land filled with Grey Warden Darkspawn murder machines* * "We don't do that here"
It can't be a coincidence that most of the blights started in the Anderfels or that the Grey Wardens centre of power is here. I think the Wardens have many secrets hidden here I hope we get to visit it in DA4 I always wondered if it was the home of a few of the titans, at least in the western Anderfels. I've always believed that a titan resides at Kal Sharok and it's in close proximity.
The Augustins are the current rulers of the Anderfels as of DAI, although you only ever hear of them if you choose to maintain Celene as empress and don't reconcile her with Briala. There's a war table operation through Josephine where the Inquisition gifts the Crown Prince, Baldewin Augustin, with a stuffed wyvern plushie. dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Anderfels and dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/A_Favor_Returned
That’s adorable.
Such a tragically sad nation...
I tend to think of it like the whole country being akin to the No Man's Land area in World War One; the land irreparably destroyed, desolate, and seemingly damned, its people forever haunted, scarred, and ruined by the war, atrocities, and inhumanity thrust upon them.
Your Grey Warden mentor, Duncan, describes the people here as hard and cold, and as you learn the soul-crushing history of this area, you begin to understand how a people could be that way, being forced to forge their lives and characters in this manner, just to survive this blasted, bereft wasteland.....
The Anderfels, my favorite nation
I was honestly an inch away from plopping those in here, but decided against it because it was unconfirmed! But I just tweeted out my thoughts on the page as a whole because of this: twitter.com/GhilDirthalen/status/939250990527795202
I know when it came out, many were thinking this was left over from DAI, and isn't DA4 related, so maybe it's that. But I want to believe...
But the nations are interesting. Just another part of the lore that I wish there was more content on.
genlock, hurlock and... sherlock??
Picturing a shriek in a deerstalker hat an d overcoat that solves MYSTERIES with their genlock sidekick.
VARRIC: (suddenly gets idea for a new book from out of nowhere)
No shit.
Didn’t Dorian say to Varic in a party banter sometime after the warden mission something like.
Dorian: I'd assumed you'd go up to Weisshaupt with Hawke, Varric.
Varric: Still business to deal with here, don't you think?
Dorian: You should be thankful. I've been to Weisshaupt. It's not good. Carved into a mountain, cold, dour, everyone so bloody serious they can't take a piss... you wouldn't like it.
Varric: Hawke would be there.
Dorian: And s/he is quite the ray of sunshine, that's true.
About it being cold I mean?
my guess is that it is craved into a mountain so far up that it is actually cold.
Mathin Vitti Ah that would make since putting it that way.
not only perfectly defensible but back when they had griffins it wouldn't have been vary remote.
Deserts can be very cold at night
Also in lore i believe darkspawn hate the cold
I don't think it was ever mentioned in game other than the World of Thedas but I think that Weisshaupt may be where the remains of the Archdemons are transported given that whatever was left of Dumat's body was stored there for blood until being destroyed later.
They do transport at least part of the archdemons' corpses there, since (SPOILERS) in the novel The Last Flight, Garahel's tomb was also adorned with Andoral's horns. Although I doubt they transport the entire body of every archdemon there. I was under the impression that Dumat's remains were taken to be studied since the Grey Wardens knew relatively little about archdemons at the time.
It makes sense that they would do that, we know the more senior Wardens carry vials of Archdemon blood with them at all times for the joining ceremony. Since Archdemon blood is as rare as rocking horse shit, I can see them transporting any and all remains to their fortress. 😀
I just happened to click on your page to see this posted. Just wanted to say love your videos and keep it up proud of you papa bless
The Anderfels is the hottest nation of Thedas? I have always imagined it as a frozen wasteland
The continent is placed on the southern hemisphere of the planet, Aka North hot, South cold
In DA:O when you talk about the Anderfels with Riordan he tells you that it's cold and has huge forrests. That might be why you thought it was cold.
I think that the name of it sounds like a cold mountainous pine forest region. perhaps anderfels makes me think of the Andes? Probably also because it's very german/nordic sounding
One can say that, except for the 5th Blight, that is the odd one, the Anderfells is tied to the history of the Blights.
As always, thanks for your videos. You're my favorite section of the Thurdays.
I don’t normally comment on you tube videos, but I did want to say that I have throughly enjoyed your videos and hope that you keep them coming. Thanks and great job!
I like your nations videos, I think the Anderfels is based on the ancient Germanic nation, especially towns names like Hossberg, Karsel and Weisshaupt.
I think somewhere it mentioned them being based on the Teutons.
Teutons are Germanic people ;0)
Ah, but a specific Germanic people.
Loved the video as always! However I'm a little surprised there was no mention of Laysh. It's definitely one of the most intriguing bits of lore from the area imo!
I like your profile picture
"Man fuck those Orlesians"
"Man fuck those Darkspawn"
Tallo's Eye among the Wandering Hills (which I assume is a reference sand dunes) looks like it might be an homage to the "Eye of the Sahara" in real life.
I'm happy to hear any story. I'd be quite alright if you finished it up with Tevinter and Par Vollan/Seheron :)
That rhino at 8:34 jumped I swear
I really hope, we will get a Dragon Age Game set in the Anderfels. Desolate, snowy or desert landscapes are my favorite.
there is a lot of codex entries in inquisition that states the griffons were killed off due to constant contact to the blight but that a warden mage that knew of some that were not tainted fled with those eggs to save them and try to bring them back those codex entries are related to the warden commander from origins as it was that mage that was rumored to have found a way to halt the blights take over of the person or creature thus for a warden it would stop the calling which is what the Ferelden warden commander goes in search of in the yrs leading up to inquisition
It's an interesting lore decision putting a Germanic culture in a desert region.
That jungle in the Anderfels reminds me of the Dark Continent in Hunter x Hunter, a largely unexplored area where unspeakable monsters and diseases as well as treasures reside. Hunter x Hunter also hints that the greatest monster of all comes from that area: man. :P
Wait is the Anderfells just Texas?
I always thought when they mentioned that the Hero of Ferelden went far west they went psst Anderfels probabl even into this unexplored land 😳
Why did I think the Anderfels was a cold place?
Can you do The lore about ostrich
Haha- I don't know if you actually mean the animal Ostrich- which I don't believe there is any lore for that, or the city of Ostwick- which I do plan on doing!
So- if you do mean Ostrich- I'm afraid I have to decline...
Make a video about tevinter imperiom
Nice video, thanks a lot! Do you know if there is any lore explaining what happened in Anderfels during the fifth blight?
Oh, nevermind, I watched your video again and you clearly say that the fifth blight never reached Anderfels. Anyway, thanks for the video! :D
thats kinda funny i always imagined the anderfels as snowy and cold... why'd i get that impression i wonder???
I think in DAO it is spoken of as forested and snowy
How to you get your information for your videos? thanks for the great videos, subbed
Black magic and human sacrifice.
But really- depends on the subject. For videos like this, I start out with the 'World of Thedas' books because they have a whole section about this. From there, I use digital copies of the RPG rule book and all the codex entries to search through keywords related to what im talking about. Then if there is a section in the game I know relates to it, Ill play through that again (which doubles as video I can use during editing) I usually finish off by checking the DA wiki to see if I missed anything (Usually BSN form posts or tweets). The Novels are harder to go through, because I only have physical copies, and I have to manually look through those, which is a big pain.
It's really not that hard to do on your own- the hardest part is just knowing where to look for things!
I miss Anders......amazing character
Shane Riley Yes, aside from being a murderous madman he was quite likeable. ;-)
Shane Riley He was good in Awakening. I hated him in Dragon Age 2. I miss Ser Pounce-a-lot more than I miss him.
not really a murderous weak psychotic guy with his whole person being kill templars freee mages which is obviously stupid basically fenris just oppositr
The last three replies to this are complete garbage.
Shriek* not sherlock
Sharlock is the technical name. Shriek is just a nickname.
