I am a Black American who has travelled quite extensively in the world, including Ghana and Nigeria. Also, I have been going to Barbados for over 27 years. My husband’s Mom is from there. I have never been to a beach I could not access. No private beaches. You can also go into a hotel lobby and ask them how to get to the beach. We have done this many times throughout the years. Barbados is safe and friendly. My home away from home.

African Tigress, You are phenomenal! ❤️ You offer such a unique perspective and in depth coverage to UA-cam filming! As a Bajan, 🇧🇧 I am happy to see you as an African in the Caribbean! You mentioned Kenya 🇰🇪 was colonized by the British 🇬🇧 as was Barbados. It's important to recognize as people birthed in Africa 🌍 and those of us of African descent in the Caribbean, we fueled the world! The physical stolen African labor due to slavery in the Caribbean and colonization in Africa, brought wealth to those who did NOT earn it! Moreover, the economic exploitation of Africa's resources also served to unjustly enrich Europe which in itself is resource poor!
I say all of that to reinforce my gratitude to you for
this vlog. I hope soon the Caribbean will have direct flights ✈️ to Africa 🌍 so that more of us could bridge the gap between the Atlantic that most of our ancestors crossed through in unbearable conditions to restore our connection.
I am currently reading "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" 🌍 by the late Walter Rodney who was assassinated in his birthplace of Guyana 🇬🇾.

The tour guide shared a wealth of information but in some cases he is not correct. Barbadians do not pay taxes on property valued under $300K and there is a Land Tax Relief Board where land owners can appeal and get Tax relief. His comments about persons being forced off their land is misinformation and it is reckless.

Since Barbados was the most easterly island in the Caribbean, and the first stop for the ships coming across the Atlantic Ocean from West Africa, the plantations in Barbados got the first pick from the among the newly landed enslaved people. This geographical advantage allowed the British planters to select the most docile of the enslaved people. Since this group of enslaved people was more easily controlled, rebellion was less likely or less effective, thus securing the plantation systems in Barbados. Some people argue that due to this ancestry, Barbadians today are passive or inert in response to injustice. Others may counter that Barbadian society benefits from taking an intellectual approach to advocacy rather than using physical aggression. It remains an open argument but in no way does the outcome justify the misuse and abuse of African and (eventually) Caribbean people throughout the centuries.

This elder Jamaican thanks you for showing me other aspects of the Caribbean I would not otherwise see. I respect the tour guides knowledge and enthusiasm, just wish he'd emphasize the African links over the British. It's a personal thing. Other than that, I have to say that, for me, the Barbados flag is by far the most beautifully designed flag in the world, it is just FIRST CLASS.
Regarding land tax. Surely that's government's territory. How then, can anyone increase the tax ten fold, and push people off the land? That's unheard of. As an aside, Barbados at 169 square miles is 22 square miles larger than the Gaza strip where CNN reports more than 2.5 million people live, that number is shocking and questionable of course. However Barbados is smaller than Jamaica's second smallest parish, Hanover at 174 square miles. I try to imagine 2.5 million people living in Hanover, or Barbados, and develop brain freeze. UNIMAGINEABLE.

@@vittmanvittman4915 Someone please help me out, this just doesn't compute. Maybe I'm old and stupid, but while I accede to the former, the latter won't stick. Prop taxes usually rise by single digit percentage points, but let's say, for the purposes of this debate, an individual's tax is doubled, since no one's income/pension is EVER doubled, that's cause right there for a lot of noise. Prop tax is levied across the board, so that is a lot of noise rising to a lot of stink. On that basis, which individual is going to have his tax rise ten fold, and go down without one almighty fight. I can't wrap my mind around this, doesn't make sense.

We have a lot of the gabion baskets here too especially in the parishes where the roads are constructed on steep slopes. They are also used to stabilize the banks of river channels

Many of those wooden houses are called chattel houses. They were easily dismantled due to black Barbadians having to move from one plantation to another because they were unable to own their own land.

The tropical systems eg hurricanes that usually end up in the Caribbean region between June and November annually always develop off the coast of the Cape Verde islands.

Lovely content & I like the cleanness everywhere. Rihanna has done well to invest in her country. Its interesting that in Kenya, you burry the dead in your specific villages. The first time I saw tombstones at an Anglican Church in Wales, I thought I was going at a cemetery. I’ve of course, noticed lately that the Catholics have also started burying their bishops in their church grounds in my native nation of Zambia too. Anyway, let me have some sleep & I’ll finish watching during my day.
