It’s like they got into that whole mindset that’s known as chuunibyo where like middle schoolers think they have these special powers and never grew out of it. It’s also why Yun Yun wasn’t popular growing up despite being powerful and the daughter of the chief. She’s normal and is embarrassed by the middle school theatrics and thus was the odd ball of the village.
@ I was reading up on details that weren’t shown in the anime and in either the web novel or light novels, while teaching Megumin the explosion spell the lady tries out some of their poses and added words to the incantation. She found that it increased the spell’s power. Funny that their chuuni-ness makes their spells more powerful 🤣
In the light novels the cute little bunnys are actually carnivorous and Megumin and yunyun run in to a group of them covered in blood eating a one punch bear.😮 The gargoyles are actual monsters the crimson demons turn to stone to use as decorations but it has a time limit it last a while but eventually they get freed.😅
My favorite in the main series is Aqua (because I'm a mess just like her), but in the "Explosion" prequel I REALLY love Yunyun and Arue, their contrasting approaches to this nonsense is hilarious
Thank goodness the adults were there to save the town from those gargoyles, that totally weren't there only because they were using them as decorations 😂😂😂😂
Its 'joke magic' because of its high mana cost, pretty much depleting all the mana from the user from just one spell and at a peak of your learning you might be able to do 2-3 spells in a row and then run out mana.
Explosion has a lot of flaws besides the cost. The cast time is long, it's loud af which will attract all the monsters in the area, and is too powerful for its own good to be usable in a dungeon. The might is unmatched without question and Megumin will improve on the cast time to the point it's basically instant so she's hellbent on figuring out why it's the ultimate magic despite its many flaws.

The cast time is long. But Megumin does use her skill points to improve its casting time in addition to its power, so she can cast explosion far faster than most Explosion users can.

Create water!"). But you see the cast time of explosion in the form of the magic circles forming about both Megumin and her target and expanding, while Create Water, by contrast, occurs instantly. She just needs to concentrate on the spell's creation for the full cast time. And while longer cast times could lead to chants to help keep you focused for the full cast time, Megumin has showed she has explosions in her heart, she doesn't need the focus help. She has also shown that she gets some kind of pleasure from the build-up of mana. So she could be holding her spells longer than needed for personal gratification. But what member of Kazuma's party would ever endanger the mission or hinder their party role just for personal and immediate gratification? None, ever, I'm sure!
This is a really enjoyable series. Great stuff with Megumin and Yunyun. Also, look out for Sister Cecily! BTW, the big-breasted woman you are calling an "elf" is actually a demon.

I love this side story, you'll love how it develops and connects to the main story with Kazuma and Aqua later.

Crimson Wizards are pretty much Chuunibyous, i recommend watching 'Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!' in the future, really funny and wholesome anime.
