The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. The Kinks' music drew from a wide range of influences, including American R&B and rock and roll initially and later adopting British music hall, folk, and country. The band gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' wittily observational writing style. The Kinks and the songs of Ray Davies are now rightfully established as a great British institution. From the opening riff of You Really Got Me, The Kinks’ influence as pioneers in heavy metal, power pop, conceptual albums, and theatrical shows can be detected in much modern music.
This, and much more, can be seen on this UA-cam channel exclusively devoted to these true British originals.

I discovered this song when I found out that my dear friend left the world. I remembered that he's following me on Spotify, so I searched his profile. This song is on his playlist, and it immediately placed a spot in my heart. I never thought of him as a romantic, but the songs on his playlist are about one-sided love. Now I listen to this song to remember him. 😢
😢
I experienced almost same thing 😢❤
I discovered this song when my dear friend passed away.lyrics tells about my feelings exactly..and he told me same words on his last days too..
@@eylemelifsoner I'm so sorry for your loss. It’s comforting to know someone else finds this song as special as I do. Music has a way of keeping their memory alive. Sending you love. 🖤

one of my all time fave songs by The Kinks.
This is so beautifully sparse, befitting of the subject matter, qualities that make it timeless.
There are a millions covers of this song but none of them have the emotional impact this stripped down version has.
The sparse piano accompaniment on this demo is so interesting unto itself
Superb cool record and Davis at his best and the pretenders version was good
Peggy Lee also made a version
Very nice 👌 ..The Piano 🎹 is cool !
The greatest ballad ever written.
I can't get over how The Kinks remained SO overlooked
I agree. In terms of songwriting, they were on a parr with the Beatles and way better than the Stones or the Who. Management issues, difficulties marketing them in the USA and of course, internal conflict in the band.
I was completely oblivious about that intraband quarrelling (especially the brothers) Saw it on a short docu recently.
Also, as a kid growing up, my mom being a fan since her teenage years, i knew more songs than the most 'radioproof' hits, but still: digging deeper as i grew older made me see how broad their spectre is. But if you know just of the top 40 songs eg, you might think they're this 'safe' little band. I think because of that perception ,many people kept them in that realm and so they remained unexamined. Same goes for Small Faces too btw @@juanpablojones
Totally agree @@juanpablojones
😮 I've never heard this before, Love 💕 it ✌️💚🙃
Beautifull! 🎶
Love the sparse mood in voice and piano
Good to hear,,I do like to hear Chrissie Hyde and The Pretenders.
So did Ray Davies ahem
The edge of sleep gang is here 🫡

@@Punky_Enjoyeroftrains@Punky_Enjoyeroftrains While listening to Peggy Lee's version, I saw this in my feed. I don't know why, but this version made me laugh. So, I wanted others who wanted to listen to Peggy's version to also to take look at this one.
Wunderschö n - gerade entdeckt.
It's bizarre they never recorded this properly and released it
And imagine that you’re there with me 😌
This’s a beautiful song but also gloomy. God saves The Kinks
A versión de Pretenders ....esta moi ben..!!!
Peggy Lee's version brought me here.
Я очень удивлен от этого песню.я думал это песню написала Сия . И она тоже хорошо пела это песню но оригинал есть оригинал

@@jugbandblues Это оригинал, песня Рэя Дэвиса из The Kinks
@@timurisanov7801 Песня написана Рэем Дэвисом (The Kinks) и записана в 1965, при чём здесь 1967?
People think this isn't THE best version. People are wrong.😊.
Opinions exist
@@Punky_Enjoyeroftrains well like, that's just your opinion man. My opinion I that there are at times glimpses of undeniable truths. One glimpse being that this demo probably recorded days after its lyrics conceived is more haunting and heart felt than anything that's come after it as of yet. I don't think it can really be denied. The Marion (1967) TV performance is pretty astounding. I definitely recommend it.
@@MojoeWhirligig stating an opinion as if it was a fact doesn't make it any more true
@@Punky_Enjoyeroftrains live a little. Lol.

Thank you
Pretty limp compared with Chrissy Hines vocal performance
Amazing timeless song. Only Chrissie Hynde's version compares in greatness. Always wondered why Davies never considered it good enough to be a single by the Kinks.
Peggy Lee sang it first
