It was Bowie & Thunderthighs (Karen Friedman, Dari Lalou & Casey Synge). plus Mick on Piano, Trevor Boulder on Trumpet, Klaus Vorman on Bass and John Halsey (from the Rutles) on Drums.
You’ve got to check out Rock & Roll & Sweet Jane from the Rock & Roll Animal LP. I love the line that only a few thousands bought his albums, but they all went out & started bands.✌️❤️🎶
Berlin and Coney Island Baby are my favourite Lou albums. Although his "Songs for Drella" album he did with John Cale, his Velvet Underground band mate, is right up there too.
"Perfect Day"... and then listen to the BBC's advertisement version with many, many artists all contributing to the song...AWESOME !!! Listen to this and "Walk On..." a few times over and over....and then one day you'll find yourself on some pier or broad walk and you find yourself humming: "do de do de do..." or "satelite of love ...bom bom bom,..." and right there and then you'll realise that you have achieved a peace that just fills you heart...
I always think of Transformer as a secret Bowie album because it's got Bowie and Ronson's fingerprints all over it. You should check out This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us by Sparks for more Seventies glam rock goodness.
This put a huge smile on my face. So many really great memories associated with this with friends in my late teens and into college years. And we were getting into this about a decade after it originally happened.
There's a really fun duet of Lou Reed's "Waiting for the Man" from Bowie's 50th birthday concert. Lou Reed can't stop smiling the entire time which from him is honestly shocking. These two had a deep deep admiration for each other, even if they did have a few hiccups in their lifelong friendship.
Lou Reed's album, Berlin, is brilliant, and very different, kind of a rock opera about a broken marriage. He put out a live album, Rock and Roll Animal and the opening cut, Intro/Sweet Jane is jaw dropping! Definitely check out Vicious and I Can't Stand It, and from the Velvets Rock & Roll is my favorite ever!
It was mentioned in an earlier comment, but I want to echo it because you NEED to hear it. "Sweet Jane" from Rock & Roll Animal. It is harder rock than these first two you've done.
People are recommending "Sweet Jane" from Rock n Roll Animal, but it's not complete without that sublime intro by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Never was there anything better. I'd also recommend a huge chunk of New York if you really want a dose of Lou. Some of that shit is historically educational and auditorially sick. By sick I mean splendid.
Waiting for the Man, What Goes On, Run Run Run, Sister Ray, Venus in Furs -- all great Velvet Underground tunes. You really can't go wrong with anything they ever did. --The Stones were inspired by the VU's sound around the time of their album Beggars Banquet. Stray Cat Blues was the result. It is the nastiest sounding song in world history, sonic-wise. The lyrics are about what would be statutory r**e in the US so bear that in mind. But it sure does sound good. The VU invented most of the musical concepts that would later become alternative music. Supposedly only a few thousand people bought their first Album but the legend says that every single one of them went on to start a band. Edit. --Sweet Jane. Any version. It's a must.
'Underneath the Bottle' from The Blue Mask album is a fun rocking song describing his stumbles along his day lol. Also 'Wild Child' is another one of his best rockers.
Transformer, Berlin and Coney Island Baby are all really good albums and a full listen to both 'Transformer' & 'Berlin' are thoroughly recommended... Great stuff...🙂
You know what, just do the whole album. There are some weird jazzy songs on it that you might like (I know I do), and also a lot of straight forward guitar riff songs, it's a very interesting album. Berlin is fantastic too, especially the title track and Caroline Says II.
Glad to see you going deeper into Lou Reed + V. U. "Vicious" from same LP is worth a listen. But Lou's live album "Rock + Roll Animal's is my fave. The opener, "Sweet Jane" will blow your mind ! Others not 2 b missed are "Heroin" + my fave "Rock + Roll' live. I was lucky to see Lou Reed in '73 @ Alpine Arena w Genesis (w Peter Gabriel) as opening act (Lamb Lies down on Broadway tour). Didn't know much about either band except what we:d heard on radio. Genesis was dramatic and progressive but Lou Reed + Co. rocked out. It was a bit disconcerting when leather clad concert goers nearby were shouting Heroin, we didn't know the connection (LOL). Lou did the faux injection act also dramatic. A mystifying experience for the 4 of us.
Not the influence you can hear Bowie singing all the backing vocals. You should watch the video making of Transformer to see how Bowie and Ronson made this album . Lou is very complimentary.
Klaus rhymes with house. Everyone has already suggested 'Sweet Jane' from the live album 'Rock and Roll Animal' with the amazing intro featuring guitarists Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Rhythm section was Prakash John, bass, and Whitey Glan, drums, a top-tier pairing from Toronto, brought in by producer Bob Ezrin. Another Lou fave of mine is 'New York Stars'. Add 'Vicious' to that. 😊🤙🏼🎶🔥❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Love this song A super fave Love Iggy Pop too "Shades" I think you'd also enjoy Ian Dury And The Blockheads, "I Wanna Be Straight" "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick"
That’s Bowie Guitarist Mick Ronson on Piano String Arraignments and Guitar on this Song and the Whole Transformer Album. Ronson also Co-Produced the Album. Yes That Mick Ronson from The Spiders From Mars
Fantastic album. Massive influence on Bowie and later (as here) they worked together. The Velvet Underground - “What Goes On” is recommended. Also “Jesus.” Haunting and bare ❤
In between 'The Man Who Sold the World' album and Ziggy came 'Hunky Dory' which would be a good choice for your nyext full Bowie album after Aladdin Sane. Unless you want to ration your Ronson-era Bowie.
For a completely different take on LR, you should try "Sweet Jane" or "Heroin" from Rock and Roll Animal. This is much harder rock powered by guitar god duo Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Both songs are VU covers in a much different style. It reflects Reed's endlessly changing sound.
@@JayCross I just read that Gibson Guitar says the intro to Sweet Jane is the 25th greatest guitar solo. Hunter and Wagner also play most of the solos on Aerosmith's Train Kept a Rollin, and Hunter even does one of the solos on Bohemian Rhapsody. They are true giants.
Like written at your first Reed-Reaction, I would recommend "Waves Of Fear" and "Magic & Loss" or, if you wanna do a whole album "Berlin" or "New York" or "Metal Machine Music" (ok, the last one ... read for yourself)! Cool you like Lou!
Astute summation Lee. All of Reed's music has a simple elegance. Glam as in mascara, metal and leather, not sequins and martinis. I think he may have started out as a jingle writer. As others have said before me: you have to listen to SWEET JANE. Thanks bro.
Transformer has a lot of good stuff but some duds. Overall it's very much more like a Bowie album than Lou, who tried his own hand at grandiose material with Berlin the next year. Overall, thanks to trying to fit in with the 70s scene and his substance abuse issues (speed and alcohol mainly), Lou was spotty in the 70s. In a rare example of an artist regaining his form after going clean, he emerged triumphant in the 80s and 90s. While Transformer gets accolades, The Blue Mask from 1982 is far better (and its cover is Transformer's but with a blue tinge!). Anyone digging into Lou's post-Velvets work has to start there. It's visceral, gritty and poetic which are three things Transformer isn't always. And yet, it's his best 70s studio LP (Rock and Roll Animal is an amazing live disc and Street Hassle is a close 2nd to Transformer).
If you’re creating a song you may start with “working lyrics”, nonsense words to hold the place while you finish the song, intending to finish the lyrics later; like “Scrambled Eggs” became “Yesterday”. Sometimes Lou seems to not bother finishing his lyrics. He certainly finished the song, or Mick and David did: it’s lush and full. It took two years from the time Lou Reed quit The Velvet Underground to release his debut solo album. If you want to hear The Velvet Underground rock, try “Foggy Notion”, silly words but classic two intertwining guitars, bass, and drums. A tight band that knows itself well. Thanks!
Bowie's backing vocals at the end of this song are legendary. Great reaction.
That’s Bowie doing all of the backing vocals
@@davidfisher8821 I knew i heard him! Especially at the end. Sounded just like him (duh) lol
And Mick on the piano
It was Bowie & Thunderthighs (Karen Friedman, Dari Lalou & Casey Synge). plus Mick on Piano, Trevor Boulder on Trumpet, Klaus Vorman on Bass and John Halsey (from the Rutles) on Drums.

I love Coney Island Baby
CIB Is a great album. In later years New York is a classic. And New Sensations is also excellent.
After the awesome "Satellite of Love" which we all needed, please make it a "Perfect Day" for "A Walk on the Wild Side" .
Forgot the BBC version. Lovely ❤
You've GOT to check Lou Reed's iconic "Heroin". It's hard-hitting, and it has one of the greatest builds ever.
I always think of Transformer as a secret Bowie album because it's got Bowie and Ronson's fingerprints all over it. You should check out This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us by Sparks for more Seventies glam rock goodness.
The back up vocalist is David Bowie.
Street Hassle is my favorite album and song. New Sensation and New York are fun. I love Lou.
This put a huge smile on my face. So many really great memories associated with this with friends in my late teens and into college years. And we were getting into this about a decade after it originally happened.
"Vicious" "Perfect Day"

And if you want variety in your diet, listen to the cover of “Sweet Jane” by Cowboy Junkies.
Lou Reed gets all the credit. Someone should request "Paris 1919" and/or "Gun" by John Cale.
Yes!! I love Lou Reed, and the Velvet Underground. More please.
Oh there is definitely more coming. I’m gonna do it on my own time instead of the requests lol he hooked me already
@@L33ReactsMore good news, Lee - as always, much to discover ❤
thanks my favorite song with perfect day!! Much LOVE from france!!!
Sweet Jane
Banging tune! 😊
Now it’s time for Perfect Day….
…you’re gonna reap just what you sow…
Totally. What a song ❤
Trainspotting soundtrack ❤
YES!
Man, that's a harrowing song.
Perfect Choice!
I love this. Lou's slighly off key vocals
against the beautiful piano and backing singers sounds so good.
Hadn't heard this .. but liked it. Thank you
Produced by David Bowie, who is also on backup vocals.
And Mick Ronson
Pale blue eyes and heroine live
Coney Island Baby, my favorite of his albums.

100%. Total rock and roll. With that edge. ❤

Yo, it’s Jellybean. I heavily suggest We Are the People by Iggy Pop. It’s Iggy reading Lou Reed’s poem, to a musical background. It’s very moving.

I'll never forget my high school buddy drooling over the "hot chick" on this album cover. Umm dude, that's Lou Reed! LOL
VU & LOU LOU! "Sweet Jane" checkout his Berlin album, in fact check out all of his music poetry. Perfect!

Songs for Drella, a rather obscure album all about Andy Warhol towards the end of his life, is a great listen, too.
Such a cool song. Disassociation maybe
Since you like Mick Ronson listen to Vicious from this album. He's on lead.
Very Bowie ish. I wonder if Lou was ever bothered by those comparisons? I liked this song. Thanks.
Ronson on piano.
Sounds like he's trying to impersonate Bowie (or vice versa)
Bowie on backing vocals
No, it's actually Bowie himself doing those backing vocals. He produced the album.
Reed is not GLAM rock. He gets some backing vocals from Bowie and other help. Reed is a very original guy.

React to Lou Reeds 1996 track "Sex With Your Parents". Lyrics are.... Well listen to it, absolutely great rift to it though.
