vintage flugelhorn comparison: 1934 Couesnon & 1939 C. Mahillon

  • These are two of my Vintage flugelhorns: a Couesnon from 1934 and a C. Mahillon from 1939.
    First I play the Couesnon. It is not a Monopole, unfortunately; that would have been like the holy Grail for vintage flugelhorns, but still a nice instrument. Slotting in the higher register is a little more difficult than on the Mahillon, which I play second. I apologise for playing the Mahillon a bit sharp, but the sound still is quite velvety I think.
    I myself feel better about the Mahillon. It slots better and plays more freely.
