    I discovered the many pros of 'Diesel' power in 1996 with my Cummins Ram pick-up.
    I began my TDI experience in 02. I'm now on my 4th consecutive TDI. I LOVE em'!
    Currently rolling a 2011 Jetta Sportwagon TDI w/83K miles.
    You can't find a more practical, economical, utilitarian daily driver IMO.

    This is the end of my first week with my sportwagen tdi. The fuel gauge needle finally moved this morning. Scored a 2014 with 40k miles on it, interior in damn near pristine condition. 10.8k financed and all. It's stupid how much i enjoy driving this little guy. Super happy with the car and glad i got it.

    Good vid! I have a 2015 tdi highline! Love it. My first fuel efficient car and diesal.
    After 2 years. No complaints.
    Got the stage 2 emmisons done recently.didnt notice a difference.
    Great hwy commuter! Ive gotten 53 mpg over a 6 hour road trip in the summer.
    Def fluid is no big deal..esp when the dealer fills it for free during oil changes. Pay 50 to dyi or 70 at dealer with free def fluid. Easy.
    Dsg! Do it at dealer esp first one.

      The best car, im from Argentina i have a jetta 2011. I used the car at 100 miles per hour and i have great fuel economy, is cheap to drive at that speed too!! Now the car have over 300.000 miles and is running all okey. The only thing that i have to change it was the clucht. Is one of the best cars in Argentina the jetta, here we call vento. The main problem is that vw dont sell more the tdi, thats a pity! They only have gasoline and i dont like that cars i prefer diésel all My life!

    Just purchased a 2014 Passat TDI SE with a Sun and Nav 64k miles for $13,000. Got a 2 year unlimited mileage limited warranty plus 3yr36k bumper to bumper plus the 10 year emissions plus 5 years free maintenance and 5 year key fob warranty. Couldn’t go wrong with this one. I bought my 2015 TDI in March 2015 just before all heck broke loose with Diesel Gate. I did all the required compliance upgrades and continue to be delighted with the car as my daily driver after more that 9 years and 120k miles. I enjoy the 6 speed, and knew more maintenance issues would be involved with the DSG. I get 49 mpg at a cruising speed I'll not disclose. It does not have road noise issues because I've stuck with the not inexpensive Continental OEM tire. You can destroy the acoustic engineering of a car by going with the wrong tire. I have a Lamborghini, three Porsches and parts hauling SUV (yeah, I'm not into SUVs). This is an awesome car! Perfect for daily driving, long trips, etc and I never worry about where I park. I'm sorry that Ferdinand Piech felt he had to fudge on the emissions, but I appreciate the ride.

    • @dougmann5362
      @dougmann5362 4 роки тому +1

      I have the 1.4 and love it. Gets around 37 miles avg. About to pickup a TDI though. Can't resist 45 per mile and the longevity. The 1.4 will probably die many years before the TDI. Looking to drive it 200k which shouldn't be an issue.

    I have a 2013 VW Jetta with a Kerma TDI tune, 3 inch Banks cat back exhaust, K&N filter, upgraded headlights (bc stock ones are garbage), custom 2 in hitch receiver to tow my 1100 lb camper trailer (tows very well down highway 75 mph in 6th gear!), sigma 6 short shifter, diesel geek panzer skid plate. Best car I’ve ever owned, just basic maintenance but had to change CV axles around 70K because it has so much low end torque I believe it wore out prematurely. Average 38 mpg city, 49 highway, best 58 mpg. Can get 28-30 mpg at 90+ mph!!

    Appreciate the video. I've been looking into getting a golf or jetta tdi post dieselgate so this video gave me a lot of information. I do 40k km (25k miles)/year and gas vs diesel price here in Canada is almost the same, well at the time I write this, diesel is a bit more but the fact that I probably won't have to fill up my tank every 3 days is awesome.

      Pulled the trigger and got a 2014 model. Going at around 115km/h (70mph) I'm expected to do 910km (565 miles) mostly on highways. I had to run a few errands in town and it dropped a bit which gave me a real life estimate so I figure I'll do closer to 800km (500 miles) but I'm still happy.

    • @FocusedGarage

    Gave up 09 and have 15 the day they released them. Only 9000miles. Average 39 back and forth to work. 42mpg at 80-90 mph on long trips. If vw services oil change they usually top off def. Obdelven is pretty cool to change features on car, check it out. Remote windows ect. Double apex dual usb on console by shifter. Dsg and computer learns your driving habits. My only gripe is there isn’t a inverter in passenger area like I had on the 09. Nice review tho.

    My knowledge of diesels comes from the truck world, which several buddies of mine have had catastrophic issues with the emissions systems. I.e. putting their trucks in limp mode because it needs to Regen to burn off all the particulates. Anyway, have you ran into any problems like this with your Jetta? I recently found a 2015 golf sportswagen tdi 6 speed manual near me and that I want to pull the trigger on, especially after the test drive. But I am a little hesitant because of the emissions components that it has on it that mirror my buddies trucks. Would appreciate your two cents.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  5 років тому +2

      The emissions systems in these cars tend to be a lot more forgiving then the emissions systems in larger trucks based off of what I've seen. If you have issues you with emissions stuff, tons of companies sell delete kits (for off-road only use of course, wink wink).

    Hi. I'm very interested in getting the vw 2015 jetta tdi (automatic). Found one with low mileage and vw recalled warranty (Phase 1 completed). Asked a mechanic for some feedback..and he told me to stay away from this brand/car...too many reliability problems and expensive to fix.
    He recommended me a Toyota, Honda, or Mazda. The 2015 vw jetta tdi is a good deal and cheaper to buy than the Japanese ones. I don't want to buy a headache. I drive a lot. Do you recommend this car?

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  5 років тому +1

      A Toyota or Honda will always be a cheaper car to run and maintain than anything German. However I've put over 20k miles on this car without a single issue so far. Being a diesel, cost of maintenance is slightly higher than a gas car, but this will run for much longer and also get better MPG while offering more torque. I'd recommend one to anyone who drives alot!

      I've put 11k miles on my '11 TDI since September. Just got my oil changed a few weeks ago, and the only thing is the oil is about twice as much as regular 5w-30 due to you needing the VW-507 certified oil. Haven't had any problems with mine, no lights or error codes in the gauge cluster.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  5 років тому +1

      The oil price isn't a problem though because you're only changing it every 10k miles.

    I own a 2011 jetta tdi, I missed the warranty by a less than 1000 miles and 3 weeks, and they told me to go kick rocks. Dealership wanted 4k+ to replace egr valve, dpf, 4 temp sensors, a.ong other things to completely fix the car. Otherwise car is un-drivable with the amount of soot in everything.

      Shouldn't have anything to do with a recall. If the car still has the warranty, take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

    • @FocusedGarage

      Parts are pretty cheap for this car. A simple search on Rock Auto or even a VW parts website will show that. However I have put 25k on this car and outside of normal maintenance it has not needed a single repair.

      The car has a very long warranty on emissions equipment since it is a TDI buyback vehicle. I have no worries about carbon build up.

      That warranty was a big factor for me when buying my my 2015 tdi passat.
      If your trying to get the most out of that warranty, look for a car with the latest in service date as well as low milage. My car was never sold/registered untill july of 2017 and it only has 31k, so ive got just under 9 years 131k left of warranty that is guaranteed to cover everything in that document.

Just a week ago I got my hand on 2015 passat allready got a stage 2 tune on it and slowly will work on personalizing that car but honesly I cannot emhasize it enought get the malone stage 2 Ive had this car only for couple of days without the tune and right after installing it I can tell car runs much smoother and quieter and expect for it to only get better as I stack up miles on it (my jetta had 326k miles when it got tottalled first engine/transmission 6mt)@@FocusedGarage

    the new 2019 hyundai elantra eco gets over 40mpg, much cheaper to buy, much cheaper maintenance, and a very dependable car with a great warranty. and dont forget gasoline is much cheaper that diesel. also with all the engine killing smog crap and def fluid its just not worth it to own a diesel truck or car.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  5 років тому

      The Elantra also makes significantly less power and has less driving dynamics. However you are right, the cost of keeping the Hyundai on the road will be cheaper long term as compared to the VW. Depending on where you live in the US, diesel may be cheaper. Two different cars for two different types of people.
