This song is so much prettier with just him and his guitar. No band, no overpowering Tammy falsetto. Just the greatest voice ever in country music, 3 chords, and the truth!
George Jones was my friend and one helluva humble guy. He loved music and never forgot where he came from. He treated everybody just like he knew them all his life.
This was recorded in February 1973 when George dropped by to see Leon Russell when he was recording his first country album at Bradley's Barn in Nashville. That's Leon you hear at the end saying " bet that Willie Nelsons listened to you a lot"
There's an old saying I used to hear called eyes in the boat. That means you're staring passed everything. Endlessly adrift in the rockiest of oceans. But rest assured there's only one thought in your mind. Certain country singers have that. Gentleman right here, most definitely.
Nobody ever delivered a lyric better than George. The kicker is he had no clue how brilliant he was. It was BEAT into him by his Dad, that balance and perfection was the result of endless hours just singing. He was the MJ of the country music world. He had an IQ somewhere in the 80s, lots of mental illness… and just happened to be the most gifted the most perfect voice anyone could hope to have. That’s Life . RIP George, You Truly Are The Best
There is the first time you see a mountain , the ocean , or a beautiful sunset . That’s the feeling you get when you hear George’s voice and bravado , it’s unique and would be gone too quickly , never to return . RIP Possum
you can see the partying and drinking in his eyes, but such a devoted, naturally talented musician that put in all the time, the performance is still effortless. pure soul. "You know this old world is full of singers, But just a few are chosen, They tear your heart out when they sing" RIP my hero
There’s a show made by Mike Judge called Tales from the tour bus and there’s a two part episode about George and this clip is used in the show. If you haven’t seen it already I would highly recommend. I actually used to think country music was stupid and made for country people but my whole perception of it has changed after watching the show. Rest In Peace George!!
@@totalignoranceinc George also done a lot of drugs , and smoked three packs a day for 50 yrs , it's nothing short of amazing he lived as long as he did , the only thing that damaged his majestical voice was the car crash in 1999.
I wish we had more recordings of George with just his guitar. There are some of Hank. It’s wild there aren’t many of George coming from the next generation
I wonder if it would be possible to strip his vocals from other songs, and just pair it with an acoustic guitar. 🤔 It still wouldn't capture the same subtle intimate feel though, unfortunately. People sing stronger with a band, as opposed to softer with just an acoustic.
Scorpion collecting footage is artsy for sure but in the film he’s getting ready to paint a mural in the pool so like George he’s seeking beauty. Anyway this floors me every time.
Admittedly, I had long thought of George Jones as iconic, but somehow "famous for being famous" -- without the substance of, say, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, or Merle Haggard. Then I came across this video; I humbly stand corrected. I wish there were a whole album -- or, better yet , a whole video -- of George Jones alone with his guitar. (Watching George Jones perform is always a big part of my enjoyment of him, and I wish this video were not interspersed with the guy in the pool.)
@@jeremydeprato1645 Thanks for that. It was a new one on me. George Jones is especially enhanced in live situations, when you can watch him sing. Thanks again.
The way his head snaps and eyes open when he starts the song. He always seemed to live and be the character of the song he was singing, and this is a great visual of him becoming that character. Maybe he’s staring and imagining this person’s smile from the song. I wish the full footage of the song was available, an absolute favorite.
I consider myself a master of country music i know a lot of stuff people don’t. This is by far the greatest live performance songwriter, besides Townes
The best moment is when the the two guys on the couch look at each other like, "How cool is this?" Reminds me of the look the Edge and Jack White exchange when Page plays the "Whole Lotta Love" riff in "It Might Get Loud."

You are spot on!
It’s like Ol Waylon said “If we could all sound like we wanted to, we’d all sound like George Jones”.
❤❤❤
God he was right.
So this is what perfection sounds like.
Arthur Name. amen to that.
George was hammered! But he still did it perfect!!!
sure is
You Dam right, but I question a few things about this
@@davidlanders907 Like "Who's the smartass who decided to cut to some asshole cleaning scorpions out of a pool instead of staying glued to George?"
The way he delivers the line "I'd be in darkness no more" and the way he trails up and out. Astounding.
❤❤❤❤
This made me understand why George Jones is great.
Great is an understatement when talking about George Jones.
George lived the hardships of love and you can see it in his eyes when hes plays this tune. Rip george, you were true blue

It's just so darn effortless and so darn beautiful, or "a real pretty song boy"
Best version of this song. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. 💗
100%
♥️👍🏼😎
The king of country music hands down
Just talent, no technology to enhance or cover up like today.
The crackling of the wooden chairs in the background just adds to the ambiance. Obsessed with this
Where is george at? A hippie commun
The best version of this song I've ever heard, you can hear the pain in his voice
He's the most emotive singer I've ever heard.Like there is cave in his chest that holds the pain of a million heartbreaks
EXACTLY!
The Master doing what he does best, George Jones was and is The GOAT!!

Where did you get the figure of 80's for his IQ
@@denniscross3430 he was assessed when he was put into the hospital for alcohol and drug abuse. It’s in his book
@@KyZhoül One's IQ at the lowest depths of substance abuse is not the same as one's actual IQ. You need to adjust your above post.
His iq is far above 80. He took an iq test when he was at rock bottom. Try taking an iq test after being up for days on end and see how you do.
Best sound in the world is just his voice and an acoustic guitar, with a sip of Bud!! Love it!
This song gives me goosebumps. He was the best. The wannabes out there now couldn’t carry George’s jockstrap.
Every time I see this video I just have to crack open a cold one
He truly speaks my heart. Beer in hand, tear in eye.
He’s thinking of Tammy
Need more music like this of older singers
George looks so natural like he really wanted to play this song and felt its power… I love The

I watch this 50 times a week. #GOAT

Raise your hand if you want to see the footage of George, as interesting as the guy capturing scorpions in the pool may be
