    This was recorded in February 1973 when George dropped by to see Leon Russell when he was recording his first country album at Bradley's Barn in Nashville. That's Leon you hear at the end saying " bet that Willie Nelsons listened to you a lot"

    Nobody ever delivered a lyric better than George. The kicker is he had no clue how brilliant he was. It was BEAT into him by his Dad, that balance and perfection was the result of endless hours just singing. He was the MJ of the country music world. He had an IQ somewhere in the 80s, lots of mental illness… and just happened to be the most gifted the most perfect voice anyone could hope to have. That’s Life . RIP George, You Truly Are The Best

      His iq is far above 80. He took an iq test when he was at rock bottom. Try taking an iq test after being up for days on end and see how you do.

    There’s a show made by Mike Judge called Tales from the tour bus and there’s a two part episode about George and this clip is used in the show. If you haven’t seen it already I would highly recommend.
    I actually used to think country music was stupid and made for country people but my whole perception of it has changed after watching the show. Rest In Peace George!!

      @@totalignoranceinc George also done a lot of drugs , and smoked three packs a day for 50 yrs , it's nothing short of amazing he lived as long as he did , the only thing that damaged his majestical voice was the car crash in 1999.

      I wonder if it would be possible to strip his vocals from other songs, and just pair it with an acoustic guitar. 🤔
      It still wouldn't capture the same subtle intimate feel though, unfortunately. People sing stronger with a band, as opposed to softer with just an acoustic.

    Admittedly, I had long thought of George Jones as iconic, but somehow "famous for being famous" -- without the substance of, say, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, or Merle Haggard. Then I came across this video; I humbly stand corrected. I wish there were a whole album -- or, better yet , a whole video -- of George Jones alone with his guitar. (Watching George Jones perform is always a big part of my enjoyment of him, and I wish this video were not interspersed with the guy in the pool.)

    The way his head snaps and eyes open when he starts the song. He always seemed to live and be the character of the song he was singing, and this is a great visual of him becoming that character. Maybe he’s staring and imagining this person’s smile from the song. I wish the full footage of the song was available, an absolute favorite.

    Believe it or not" George jones and Tammy lived right up the road from my grandfather in brandon Florida...the 98 bar is where George would go to...it was a little country bar..my grandfather knew George just as a man who was a genius at what he did...theres a sign on hwy 60 that reads buy a mobile home from us, George and tammy did..
