- Being raised as a sheltered child doesn’t make her ignorant. Nor her young life stop her from making her life mission battling against depravity that most adult--voluntarily or not, choose to ignore: Child Trafficking. Encountering it first hand, she described how she face it and how to rehabilitate its survivors, while it all may happened not as far as we think. In her case ignorance is not a bliss. Faye Hasian Simanjuntak is a jolly and active teenager who loves to read, travel, binge watching, and sing Bataknese folk songs. She is very keen to any food with chocolates and peanuts. Yet Faye has a wisdom beyond her young age. She co-founded Rumah Faye in 2013, an organization fighting human trafficking, especially in children. The fact that she’s a teenager does not stop her to put more thought and heart into that social issue in Indonesia. She is actively promoting and campaigning Rumah Faye’s program to stop child trafficking alongside with other NGOs. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
You got it Faye! PREVENTION is KEY. You are a gift to society and I look forward to the changes you are ushering in. Thank you!
So cool how her parents made her see how other people live. One of my classmates whose parents are rich af was in complete shock when she realised that not all of her class wears brands.
When she said 98 million, I was shook!!! This girl is amazing
I gasped.
Heather Blake Is that in American dollars? Not that it really matters, but I’m just trying to bring in some perspective. If it’s Indonesian, because it’s TedEdJakarta, for a kid that’s over $6,000, which is still good.
@@HVACSoldier it was Indonesian
@@samparmus4216 it was indonesian -- not USD
I want to emphasize that when I said “good,” I should’ve said that it was a lot of money.
We need more Faye Simanjuntak in this world, Thank you Faye for your compassion, effort, love for our society.
My heart breaks hearing her near the verge of TEARS, as she speaks.

You know there's even 1 child abused and you are too busy to do anything? Im sure if it was your child you would complain that there isnt enough help. This is not a political event, a religious thing or a football game. Those are the things you can say you are too busy for. This is even 1 child abused..especially if you have kids of your own, you have the obligation to get involved. Get up and do something!
Well, child-trafficking is also for orphanages.
Even in a Church
We need a TED talk on adrenochrome drugs and how they’re manufactured.
we've developed a product that will dramatically reduce this problem. However, people in organizations that could help get the word out, dont want to. They want us to become a vendor through their organizations and flip a coin as to if anyone will know we exist. So who's worse, the criminal that takes these children or the organizations that dont really care about children, and only care about their 6 figure donors that are part of the problem and not the solution?
She looks like Raya
96 million rupiah or dollars? (either way right on)
I think rupiahs
I have raised negative 800,000. have I not only not been involved it is my to carry. I am decay.
ugh.
2:40 wow, mom copped out. sounds like "mom with lots of money" doesnt' have much interest in fighting trafficking. wonder why THAT might be.
Parents who drag their daughter *for years* to orphanages and social projects on the weekends, that they themselves apparently championed are very, very unlikely to have "copped out"! How many ultra-wealthy do you know who spend their weekends actively going into communities to help?! Instead of just writing checks at high-end events...
It rather sounds like the mother helped her research. And then bowed out in order to get her daughter to become active like the parents lived and showed her on those weekends. It seems to me a remarkably thoughtful and empowering way to raise a very privileged child into a compassionate and actively socially conscious person!
You have a simple thought process if that's what you gathered to make a comment about. I hope you're not a parent, this woman patented her daughter to raise 96 million dollars and open an ngo before 15. You're saying she copped out? You do realize that there is a high possibility that if the mother just handed her a 10k check. This girl could of felt good enough about that and never went further? You don't understand the lesson that amazing parent gave that child.
@@speedybball0287 It's in IDR, but still amazing nonetheless.
90 mil....wtf kind of circles you run in?.......
it's in IDR (US$6k). But for 9 y.o in ID raising that with hand written letters, she's really amazing because our income here is way below western countries. So that's a lot.

WHAT A GULLIBLE GIRL....DIDN'T SHE REALIZE MOST CHILDREN IN ORPHANAGES ARE TRAFFICKED?
Nelda Smith oh wow! Nice one Sherlock
How gullible indeed this child is...being innocent and optimistic about the world. How dare she...how dare she be a kid REEEE!
You’ve just triggered me...well done 🤣🖕
@@alexandertheaccursed1627 MY SIBLINGS NOW IN THEIR 50'S WERE ADOPTED - AND TRAFFICKED ! THEIR LIVES HAVE INCLUDED TRYING TO GET MEDICAL HELP FOR ALL THE INTERNAL INJURIES THEY ENDURED ! PRAISE GOD THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST ORPHANAGES & BOYS HOMES WERE BUSTED 2 YEARS AGO FOR TRAFFICKING ORPHANS FOR 50 YEARS ! THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES HERE IN THE USA HAVE ALSO BEEN INVOLVED IN TRAFFICKING . I SUGGEST YOU RESEARCH A BIT BEFORE YOU "GO-OFF" ON TRUTHFUL COMMENTS.
Nelda Smith putting everything in CAPS doesn’t make you right, hun...
Don’t build a house upon the shifting sand and be surprised when it crumbles; Likewise don’t lie to children; raising them on fairytales and Princesses - and then hold it against them when they don’t know the truth.
@@alexandertheaccursed1627 PLEASE PARDON MY CAPS, I DO APOLOGIZE....I HAD A PARALYZING STROKE AND I HAVE ONE FINGER TO PECK WITH. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE I MAY HAVE CAUSED YOU.
Nelda Smith you forgot to press CAPS Lock off? 🤣🤣🤣
Good subject....but she is not a great lecturer
She's a teenager doing a huge speech in front of thousands of people, what did you do by the time you where her age?
@@missyc13 you make a great point.
she's 13 or 14
Sheesh, a teenage girl doing more than 99% of adults on this. This young woman is molding herself into a great inspiration for others to take a stand. One person can not solve this problem but all it takes is one person to start that wave of motivation. @vL you need to change your mindset and look at the positives than the negatives. Whatever negatives you went or are going thru doesn't need to rub off on others. Sending you positive vibes and healing energy for what you hold deep within yourself. Hurt people hurt people....together we can all help others grow. 🤙
