  • “Food sovereignty for us means freedom to choose.” -Theodora Prius
“[Capitalism is] an agricultural model that is not focused on feeding populations. It’s focused on producing profit…and agricultural products for export.” -Stephanie Brito
The big agribusiness, and the monoculture it promotes, threatens the culture and food sovereignty of working-class people in Tanzania.
In this episode, Peter Mertens visits Johannesburg, South Africa to talk with Theodora Prius with the National Network of Farmers’ Group in Tanzania and Stephanie Weatherbee Brito of the International Peoples’ Assembly, currently working with the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) in Brazil, about the ownership of land, and the giant agribusinesses with a monopoly on the food chain, using exploitation, environmental degradation and other environmental crimes to determining how much we grow not to feed populations, but to make profit for these four main companies.
