  • If you're trying to learn a language, don't skip this video because it's the most important one. I won't teach you the language itself, but I'll teach you how to learn it. If you're considering enrolling in a university, think twice. The same goes for spending money. Let's begin!
The language learning process is divided into three stages: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
In the beginner stage, the goal is to make reading comprehension intuitive. Strengthening reading comprehension and familiarizing yourself with 1000 words are essential. You can use resources like Duolingo, Anki, and UA-cam lessons to learn grammar. If you encounter new words, create English-to-meaning Anki cards. If a word is rare, go with familiarity cards. You can also use Linguno to learn conjugations. For reading materials, articles, books in Spanish (searched and downloaded as ePub), and videos on UA-cam with subtitles are all good options. Starting with slower, easier languages and children's shows can be helpful. Most importantly, add all the words you encounter in media to Anki, with context clues and screenshots. When you feel your reading comprehension is at 80%, and you only have trouble with unfamiliar words, move on to the intermediate level.
The intermediate level is the most fun part of language learning. There are four competencies in language: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. The first two should be prioritized at first. The goal is to complete 300 hours of immersion through reading, watching, and listening. Duolingo is no longer needed at this point. The majority of your first 10-50 hours should be focused on reading, which can be done by reading books (searched and downloaded as ePub). Watching shows or movies with subtitles can also be counted as watching, but it should be on the target language. Lastly, maximize your dead time by listening to podcasts or music in the target language. The most important tip is to focus on input and not to speak yet. Continue to add cards to Anki as you learn new words. After 300 hours, you'll have learned around 2,000 words, and listening will feel intuitive.
In the next stage, writing and speaking will be the focus. However, you shouldn't talk to natives yet. Start by making a diary and writing in it every day. You'll realize the things you can't explain yet. Then, record yourself talking in front of a camera every day for 15 minutes to improve your pronunciation. When you can't explain something, add it to Anki. After 30 days of output training, you'll start to feel a difference. Then, you can go to Discord, Facebook, or other platforms to find native speakers who can help you improve. Have them correct your mistakes. Congratulations, you can now understand the language!

I ran accross your youtube channel and I was skeptical how you studied these languages, but after watching this video it reminded me when I was 14 and was learning Hausa as a Filipino in Nigeria. There was no internet in the 80s but my method of learning was very similar except everything I did was a lot of writing and reading plus speaking to native people.

I fully agree regarding your viewpoint on reading. I studied Spanish nung college for 2 semesters, and also almost a year of French lessons before moving to Canada in 2010. I'm nowhere near fluent in these 2 languages, pero give me any book nor documenttations, research papers and I can easily summarize the contents .

Thanks for this. I've been on and off with my French learning, and I find your vid helpful in motivating me to continue. I once tried learning by the natural method for another language (Latin) through reading and it totally worked for me especially as a total beginner. Natural approach traditionally is through classroom exposure. Since I'm a beginner I tried learning through reading first the target language without translation. You learn meaning and vocabulary through context.
There is also a French book for learning it by the natural method and I haven't tried it yet. I also watched French In Action vids on UA-cam which applied the same natural approach and that worked for me, too. Though I 've already forgotten because of inconsistency. I think I'll start from there and the book.
    Thanks for motivating me. ❤

So far yung Mandarin ko halos 6000 words na combined young and mature. 6000 lang kasi nag simula ako sa sentence decks na hininto ko na nung 2021 at nag transition sa vocab. Baka puede ka gumawa ng video about sa word count mo per language. :D

      Portuguese:713
      Swedish:3171
      Russian: 4730
      Total:18028
Mapapansin mo ren ung difficulty saken of each language based on the number of cards. Ung Italian and Portuguese unti lang kase alam ko na French and Spanish.
Everyday paren ako nagaanki. mga 100 cards a day review. tas nagaadd nalang ako mga average 10 a day for memorizing more complex vocabulary and sentence structure.

@@aljohnpolyglotHoly crap. haha. Ngayun ko lang nabasa reply mo. Looking at your total card count, grabe ilang taon mong pinagpaguran to.

spanish around 400 hours. naging fluent nako after three months (reading, speaking, writing, listening) since mga 6 hours a day ako nagaaral non. I think around those amount of total hours ren ang average tagalog speaker matututo.
Ung pinakamadali ay Spanish kase madameng loan words tsaka di complex ung pronunciation. I actually made a video about it just check it out. I explain it in complete detail
Pinakamahirap is chinese. Kase andame kakabisaduhin. And meron ren siyang tones.
Grammar or vocabulary? i think you should do both. You can't learn grammar without learning the vocabulary used in that grammar. Also, if you know the grammar, it will be easier to memorize new words kase may pattern lang sila na sinusunod. So it kinda goes at the same time.
