But this is not working for SBQQ__Quote__c object. Is there any reason why?

When you use "SBQQ__" that means it is packaged object and in this case package is SBQQ. This hack works on all standard, custom and packaged objects. So ideally, in your case, it should work. Pls check if new button (this is standard button can be found under buttons and links on object) behaviour is overridden with vf page or lightning components. If so then this will give problem. Try by keeping standard behaviour.
