List Buttons are indeed the way to go. Detail Page Buttons are not visible in Lightning. I believe Detail Page Links would work too since they are visible in Lightning. Additionally I haven't tried myself but in theory you could create a Lightning Action that starts a Flow which redirect you to the hacked URL in case you do not want to work from the related list.
