- The previous owner admitted to doing a very poor job in his attempt to paint this 100+ year old Jacobean buffet. He said he never even finished it because he was not pleased with is work. It has been sitting in his attic for over 10 years because he had planned to refinish it. Since he was moving out of state, he decided that now was the time to give up on this project and hand it over to someone else. He actually "interviewed" all potential buyers to ensure they had the skill and time to restore it properly.
After he reviewed some of my videos, he decided that I was the right person to refinish this antique buffet that had been in his family since 1920. He gave it to me (for FREE) with the promise that I will strip it and stain it so the beautiful mahogany wood can be revealed.
This buffet had a LOT of carving on it and unfortunately, he had already painted every bit of it! I patiently stripped every inch of the buffet and was pleased to see that it was in such great shape under the thick coats of paint.
The mahogany is gorgeous!
I think you will be surprised at the final result!

The gentleman who was kind enough to give this to you must of wept with tears of joy upon seeing your impeccable restoration. Well done!!
I texted him the photo and he was quite surprised!
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit Did he take it back by paying you for this incredible restoration? I understood it was part of the family got a century.
Now that's the type of restoration I like to see. Great job.
Thank you Louise!
❤
I love it when people put in the time to restain a piece instead of just painting. You did a wonderful job!!!
One of the best things about watching your videos, which I enjoy greatly, is that we don’t have to listen to irritating music in the background. Thanks for doing such a great job!
Thank you Sherrian. I stopped using music because so many people complained. I listed to my viewers!!!
Oh yeah! You're one of the few who do! I _hate_ background music!
Stunning restoration!
I'd be hard-pressed to call most of it "music." Watching an artist at work with only the sounds of a work in progress is very soothing. Not to mention the birds singing!
"Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation"
The carvings on the sides in the front look like Easter eggs. It looks gorgeous after you stripped it without a finish..geez I love it!!!
LOL! They do look like Easter Eggs! They were difficult to strip! UGH!
They are actually called "egg and dart" molding.
Beautiful piece and you truly did it justice. So many today just paint everything k it warms my heart to see the attention and care you have shown here.
Thank you so much!
People lacking knowledge of antiques and how to maintain such incredible wood art pristine usually cover it with paint 🙄 to match the curtains in the living room …. Glad that it was saved and restored !!
Imo, paint is a nice accent and more appropriate for damaged or poor quality wood. Imo. It just feels as if good wood has a soul and needs to breath and be seen. IMO. respectfully.
You are indeed a restorer whom God kissed and gave talent. And you didn't disappointed Him!
So much hard work. It always lifts my spirit to see a magnificent old quality piece like this rescued. So many are just set out on the curb to be lost forever.
Thank you very much! The reason I have my UA-cam channel is to show people how to save these wonderful pieces!
Sometimes people don't realize what they have...
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit You won't believe what some "restorers" do with unique beautiful furniture, turning it into just wooden boxes and show their job on UA-cam. 😢
You did yourself proud and I would love to have seen the reaction of the gentleman who gave the piece to you that had so much sentimental value. Some pieces are just crying out for TLC to bring them back to their former glory and you did a magnificent job. It took a lot of patience and elbow grease to tackle this forlorn piece, but the results are amzing. I am glad to have just found your channel!
I never get tired to see the chemical magic of the paint stripper.
Ten months later, here I am watching this amazing transformation again.
I can just imagine how beautiful it would look for Xmas decor
It's just so satisfying to watch the paint coming off and to see the beautiful wood grain beneath. Good job!
WOW! You did an amazing job the wood looks so beautiful now !thanks for sharing !!!
Thank you very much!
Браво,сколько вашего туда вложено.Вы прекрасный МАСТЕР- РЕСТАВРАТОР..Результат просто восхитителен.❤❤❤❤
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
You are a true marksmanship excellent job I've seen a lot of work but you really put your heart into this I'm proud of you
Как хорошо, что вы вернули цвет и рисунок дерева. Как будто мебели вернулась душа!.
That's down right furniture abuse, painting over wood this beautiful. You did an excellent job!
You did a fantastic job with this piece. It was so lovely to see all that beautiful wood appear from underneath the paint. I'll never understand why some people think that rescue and renovation of furniture just means paint over everything!
WELL, I DIDN'T CATCH THIS WHEN YOU WEREDOING ITORIGINALLY - BUTI'M SEEING IT NOW. YOU NOT ONLY BROUGHTTHIS PIECEBACK, YOU CREATED A MASTERPIECEDOING IT. IT IS BEAUTIFUL! I WOULD ALMOST SAY YOU DIDIT BETTER THAN IT WAS ORIGINALLY. 💓💓💓
Gorgeous piece!
What a stunning piece. Very ornate. Great job!! He would be so proud to see it this way. 😊❤
Thank you very much! I think he will approve
Oh my God what a peace of ART
Absolutely gorgeous! Total transformation from trash to treasure ❤
The previous owner should have been ashamed that he even started to paint it let alone the poor job. I can't imagine that someone would think that paint could be an improvement over the original finish! You did an excellent job of restoring it to what it should be.
He was very ashamed. Thank you !!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL RESTORATION OF THIS WONDERFUL ANTIQUE JACOBBEAN BUFFET!!!
💖💖💖💖💖
Love you took on refinishing this. Great video to show the amount of EXTRA work has to go into removing paint… turned out beautiful.
Seeing the beautiful color after one swipe of the towel on the metal hardware made my heart skip a lil beat…
Stunning. I love seeing a family piece come back to life.
That's really a beautiful piece of furniture with great details. Great job restoring it.
Thanks so much Guy!
Beautiful, respectful restoration of a lovely piece
Thank you! Cheers!
As I have mentioned before, I LOVE that you use common sense, down-to-earth solutions for simple issues like cleaning the hardware. There is no need to spend buckets of money for specialty concoctions when you can do it with simple ingredients. This was a lovely recovery. I hate when beautiful wood like this is covered up with paint when there is no need. Good job!! I always learn from you.
Thank you Mary Kay. I try to show viewers how anyone can do what I do. You do not need expensive tools or supplies. As you can see, I used very few supplies and tools to create a beautiful finish on this antique buffet. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!!
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit My pleasure. I think your series is one of the best for the aspiring flipper to learn from. And that's me - aspiring. Always looking to learn from the best. That's YOU.
That is just absolutely gorgeous. I hope the man who gifted it to you was able to see it completed. I wonder if he wanted to have it back in the family? How amazing would that be. You did a beautiful job on that ..........just gorgeous.
I am so impressed! this is a wonderful piece of furniture for a small home, storage, not closed at bottom, could use top. thank goodness it found its way to you.

My goodness, a true labor of love.
Yes it was but the results were great!
Such a magnificent result 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So beautiful. The person who painted this piece blue needs to be given about 10 lashes. Thank u for restoring another piece of furniture.
Thank you so much!
I'm so happy you could save it
Wow wow wow! What a beautiful piece! Very inspiring.
Congratulations, you brought it back from near death. I am glad that the perpetrator replied his mistake in painting it and gave it to you
I am too! Thanks for watching!
You did a fantastic job refinishing this piece
Thank you Sandy.

Magnificent piece of furniture.
Absolutely stunning. It never should have been painted! You are a skilled restorer. Thank you. I hope you keep the buffet.
What a beautiful piece of heaven,,,great job
AWESOME RESTORATION!!!
This is a perfect example of why NOT to paint your old wood furniture. The amount of work put into taking off the old paint is incredible. Wonderful refinish.
I hope the previous owner has had an opportunity to see what an amazing job you did on this gorgeous piece of history.
Yes I texted a photo to him. He was quite pleased. Thanks for watching!
Well done. It’s a lovely Jacobean reproduction piece and you did a great job. Historically Jacobean furniture was a lot darker (we have several original 17th century Jacobean pieces that have been handed down through the family) but this piece is just beautiful with this stain.
Thanks for the info!
Well I know you are proud of that and you should be. Beautifully done!
Thank you!
I can almost hear that piece singing! Thank you for rescuing it ❤. Fantastic job !
Absolutely beautiful!
Simply beautiful
i love the carved wood pieces like this one it is not a thin piece of wood or just cheap wood with a veneer on it. Nice job
Thank you for restoring that beautiful piece of furniture. That is true craftsmanship.
Thank you Joyce!
Unbelievable what a work of art
Wow!! What a beautiful result! This buffet never needed painting -- what was he thinking?!
So beautiful, you saved this buffet.
Yes, thank you
Superb refinishing!
AMAZING TRANSFORMATION😍😍😍😍
Labor of love. Gorgeous
Just stunningly beautiful !!!
Thank you! Cheers!
That’s gorgeous!
The shades of color on the different parts of the buffet make the result so rich and warm. Superb job.
Thanks so much. I wish you could see it in real life. The finish is sooooo smooth! The car washing sponge puts a thin layer on and then I built up the layers so it is just perfect!
What a beautiful peice. Just lovely.
Thank you Lydia!
Absolutely beautiful
That was a lot of hard work! 😮
Thank you for showing up close how you dealt with both removing stain and applying it to the details. What a wonderful job you did. It is beautiful.
Beautifully done!!!
Gorgeous restoration.
WOWZA!!
LOL! Thanks!
Oh my words escape me, beautiful 🤩!
Thank you Nancy!
I just found your channel today. Wow what a blessing you are! I started refinishing furniture back in the early 90’s. I’m from New Hampshire and vintage and antique furniture was abundant and cheap as almost all of it had to be refinished. Most of it was covered in sometimes what seemed like 15 layers of paint. No computers or internet back then so I spent my weekends at barns and nobles reading books from furniture masters on how to strip and refinish and bring my pieces back to life. I refinished mine the same way you do except for the car sponge…what a great idea! Then in the early 2000’s shabby and cottage chic hit the seacoast where I lived. I jumped on it and opened a store. No chalk paint back then so once again I spent my weekends at the bookstore reading everything I could get my hands on. I learned to prep and paint like you. I got to know most of the business owners who did this in my area and was shocked to see some of the short cuts in their work. Then came the chalk paint and while everyone else was painting without prepping and waxing I was still prepping and sealing the same way. Several of my business friends thought I was nuts. I charged more and always explained to my customers why. I would never buy painted furniture that was just paint and waxed so I couldn’t do that to anyone else. I also required my vendors to refinish their furniture the same way. I closed up shop in2013 do to a sick family member that needed a lot of care and haven’t painted or refinished anything since then. I’m now in Florida and needed a large cabinet for my now small apartment. That’s how I found you. I had this what appears to be cherry wood tv armoire that must way a thousand pounds! It’s probably 20 years old and I’d say very expensive with great bones but the color is uuuugly. I’m going to paint it white and with discovering all the new paints out there now I was hoping I could skip the prep. I watched hundreds of videos before coming across your channel. So glad I did. Your extensive paint comparisons and applications brought me right back to my senses. There are no short cuts in life. I just can’t thank you enough for sharing your expertise and integrity of the work you do. You are a master at what you do. Your furniture is beautiful! That sweet man was also a wise man that gave you his cherished sideboard. That style of furniture was never one of my favorites as they are always way too dark. I’ve never seen Jacobean in that color. I guess that’s why everyone painted them. But yours is just gorgeous. Thank you again… I’ll be watching every video you put out❤️
Wow! Beautiful.
Wow…excellent revival of a beautiful piece. Always sad to see paint on beautiful woods.
This is beautiful! Wonderful job.
Wow, amazing.

Once again, brilliant work.

Beautiful restore!!
Wow pretty piece. Looks much better now.
Just Gorgeous! You are amazing!
Amazing restoration. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Wow, what a fantastic restoration. I absolutely love it. It is always lovely to see old pieces of furniture restored to their original state. Thank you very much for sharing your fantastic work. Julia Cassidy from Nottingham England 🇬🇧👍🤓
Hello to Nottingham. I would LOVE to get my hands on some of the old pieces of furniture you have there in GB! OMG. I have seen some really cook pieces. Our "old" furniture is maybe 100 years old where as yours could be over 200 years old!!!
How very lovely. Well done!
