Why not remove the eye piece rubber? It shows a camera connection!

Thanks for your review, very helpful because you cover very practical considerations and aspects..
One of the reasons I wanted to watch reviews of this eyepiece is to try and ascertain if there is a 'catch' to it. You're getting the magnification spread of 4 or 5 eyepieces but for the price of one eyepiece! So I was wondering if they have lower quality optics in them or something? But you rate the optics / view as good for the price tag, correct? Thanks

from what i understand, telescope eyepieces and dslr camera lenses follow the general rule that you get better optics from non-zoom lenses compared to lenses with a zoom. how drastic is that quality? well it varies and basically, you'll have to weigh what matters to you most. is it cost, ease of use, or optical quality. i think for my own personal beginner's use case, it would make more sense for me to pick cost and ease of use over optical quality.

Nice review and glad to heart you enjoyed using this ep. I spent three nights using the ep on Saturn and Jupiter. I don't think I ever wanted to open the box again to grab another FL el. 24mm all the way down 12mm I haven't seen any dimming compared to my other fixed focal ep. This ep give you more time picking details on the object you are looking at. The sharpness and contrast is decent.

I love zoom eyepieces too. Id never sit here and claim that a zoom will "replace" all your other eyepieces, but it offers a new experience.
And I bet you'll use it more often than might think lol!

Personally, I like the fact that I can quickly adapt with the changes in seeing condition up and down in magnification in a blink = more time enjoying the view and seeing detail. In those rare moment of complete steadiness for few seconds you just twist and you are at the optimum magnification, instead for fiddling around

How does this match up with the Hyperion. I believe that was the zoom that gave zoom a good name in our hobby, as that back in the day we were advised to avoid zoom eyepieces for astronomical application. The original Hyperion series really ruined me for plossls and such. I like the 82 degree models up to about 12 mm and don't care for the 100s and above. I like seeing the field stop as a kind of frame.

As this lens reduces the brightness of the image would it be suitable for a small telescope ? I have a CELESTRON Nexstar 90 SLT, so a small scope.

Hi, i have Orion xt8 dobsonian and wanted to know, is Orion E-Series 7-21mm Zoom Eyepiece is better then individual plossl eyepieces. And please let me know eseries eyepiece are plossl, means crisp image as plossl eyepieces does.

can this eye piece fit the celestron powerseeker 127EQ? if not, do you have one in mind you can recommend? thanks.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 4 роки тому +1

It is ideal for that mount. The 127eq is a fairly heavy mount for a 5" scope (this eyepiece is heavy), and the spotter scope is a bit challenging.
Finding the object you desire on low magnification, centering it and then zooming in is so much more satisfying than changing eyepieces two or three times.
It will definitely blow your OEM budget 4mm and 20mm erecting eyepiece out of the water.

Thanks for the review. Very informative and will most likely (meaning I will) get one.
As for your downsides. I don't know any camera zoom lenses that have click stops, after all it is an infinitely variable zoom.
Shame it isn't parfocal, but to be parfocal it will probably also need to change its' length, again similar to most camera zoom lenses, which would only push up the price.
I intend to use for planets and lunar observations on a 12 inch Dob so being a bit dimmer isn't a problem.

Made my decision for me so thanks, ideally I would go for the Hyperion. But the budget is a real consideration. Projection is attractive for my DSLR.

I have this eyepice and am not impressed by it. I can barely see Jupiter bands and when I zoom in it actually gets pretty dim (in a useless way)... maybe it’s not very good on my particular telescope Nexstar 8SE... Knowing what I know now about it, I wouldn’t have bought it... it might be nice for moon or nature, etc. In my view, buying a 3-4 separate Celestron Omni eyepieces is way way better than paying for this and it will become just a bit more expensive than this one...

    • @victoralexander848

3 separate good plossl would give the celestron zoom a clean the pair of heel they even wipe the floor with my baader hyperion zoom.they are really for convenience it's easy to carry one zoom than 3 eyepieces.the only zoom i find that can stand up to fixed eyepieces is on my swarovski spotting scope

@@terrystroth3493 Great that they did. I was quite impressed by Celestrons customer service myself. I had some questions which I sent in online about back focus and adapters for doing astrophotography with my new Evolution 8 EdgeHD. I got a very long and detailed reply from a technical expert within 24 hours. You don’t see that very often these days!

I know I'm becoming the Nay-sayer of this channel but...i know the temptation of buying a zoom eyepiece over a singular eyepiece but.....just buy three or four (Agena Astro 60 degr) eyepieces and you will be more than happy....and views will be a lot better!!....oh and get an a nice focal reducer/extender...Explore Scientific makes great stuff !

I am one of those who thinks Zooms are a gimmick, they are over priced when field of view comes into the equation but you pay for versatility, not for FOV. They do there job well and one of the main benefits of a Zoom is splitting doubles. Watching the split as you slowly zoom in is an cool experience you don't get with changing eyepieces.
The Starguiders (Agena Astro) are over-hyped. The 25mm is atrocious in anything less than an F/8, the 18mm has severe field curvature and astigmatism. The 15mm i have never tried but is too close to the 18mm and 12mm. The 12mm is the best. The 8mm and 5mm are ok but no better than the 9mm and 6mm Gold Line (Expanse Clones) which are considerably cheaper when bought off eBay. The Starguiders have weird focal length spacing. I know these are recommended a lot but they perform crap under F/6 where even a simple Plossl (though tight on eye relief in the low focal lengths and slightly narrower AFOV) perform much better at F/5.

It's a great eyepiece Ian but I can't in good conscience recommend a $200 eyepiece to someone when they may not have spent that on their telescope to begin with. But heck, yeah, if you have the funds it is a pretty remarkable piece of equipment.
