Garden City Co-op members and employees, as well as residents, reflect on the flood that hit Southwest Kansas 50 years ago on the evening of June 18, 1965.
I remember as a kid living in Hugoton, that our family had family friends who were LEOs. Calls went out for area LEOs to respond to GC to assist GCPD & Finney CO SO with possible SAR OPS along the edge of the expanded river. It was feared that the potential for residents being swept away existed and the Emergency Managers, as they were, wanted to have assets available to provide Search, Rescue or Recovery, as required. The big loss that was feared didn't come about. A blessing indeed. The thing that I realized at a early age, is that in this part of the world, people who are hours away from a disaster area, are ready to help those in need at a moment's notice, without hesitation, or expecting any remuneration. Folks from the TX & OK Panhandles, E NM, SE CO and W KS are all neighbors helping neighbors when the need arises; 50+yrs ago and today.
Garden City? New Jersey? The person who posted this video apparently believes that we all know which Garden City. Could be in China, since there is no indication otherwise. Why not tell us? I suspect because this is a case of extreme provinciality.
Hi Wanda! CO2 levels weren’t as high 50 years ago. The average citizen most likely had never heard of that word? You should look a current data. You seem a little clueless.

So very true. Thanks for that insight!
I lived in Garden City when the flood hit
I remember that.
Wow. Saving a drowning lion: that must have been a challenge.

Fair point George and appreciate the feedback. We have made those changes, reflected in the title and description.
you mean they didn't blame it on climate change like they're doing for our recent floods on the Ottawa River and Lake Ontario?
