  • We’re at the Pelican Inn in the village of Ogmore for another Welsh country pub lunch. Mel goes for the ‘Cow’ Pie and it was big.
The Pelican Inn dates back about 300 years and is in a very picturesque spot next to Ogmore Castle and the Ewenny River in the Vale Of Glamorgan, South Wales.
Ogmore Castle and the historic stepping stones across the river are only over the road and are definitely worth a visit.
Not far away is the beach of Ogmore by Sea and it is only 10 minutes from the centre of Bridgend.
At the Pelican, Mel went for the massive cow pie and I went for the Vegetarian burger which was a bit too big for lunch, especially after a starter.
The current owners took over the Pelican Inn last year (2022).
As with all these pub lunches we are not sponsored and pay for everything ourselves.

Hello from the States. Yes, another Pub video. Very enjoyable and interesting. Been reading up on South Wales, especially Bridgend, Ogmore Castle and Porthcawl. Planning on visiting someday. Could of had the sausage and mash for two. Even the children’s menu has sausage and mash. Everything looked very good. Both of you take care, be safe and stay well.

Have a suggestion for the next time you order a burger that includes some coleslaw, put the coleslaw on the burger and have a Slawburger. Very tasty. Take care.

Very nice vid Marcus, your in Ogmore (I think it should change back to what I think its name was, Ogmor which is I think Sea Caves, well I know there are big sea caves between Dunraven bay and Ogmore by Sea, in old times they must have named the town or area after these caves, so, this is a want from you, go and film the caves.

Love this video, really takes me back.
I could ramble for hours about what is in this video - but will try not to.
About 30 years ago, when my parents were still alive and all my siblings were still living in the area, we used to alternate each weekend meeting up at The Pelican and the nearby little restaurant at Ewenny Pottery (oldest pottery in Wales - I hope it's still operating). Wonderful times and excellent meals.
Ogmore Castle I know intimately; I carved my name in there when I was a kid, after a long bicycle ride from Pantyrawel, Ogmore Valley. Also, the stepping stones and swinging bridge that lead to beautiful Merthyr Mawr estate. My mother (a court trained dress maker) was making clothes for Mrs McClaggan (I'm not sure if that is the correct name spelling), who's family owned Merthyr Mawr estate. The thatched roof cottages and so on - truly beautiful.
The nearby sand dunes and the old Candleston Castle - all wonderful memories. Also, Ewenny Priory that only used to open to the public one day per year - a humbling and wonderful visit.
That area has so much going for it. History, nostalgia, insight, natural beauty - you name it, it has it.
I could tell you so many stories about that area, I loved it there.
    Thanks for the video.

Sorry, I had to laugh at the term "cow pie." Across the pond, we have a MUCH different definition of cow pie. LOL (It's what the cows leave in the fields.) It did look good, though.

I think I've stepped in a few cow pies on my walks. Eating one of those would be a very different video 🤮🐄

Onion soup looked great! Chips and relish (salsa?). I would have preferred Heinz ketchup with those steak fries. Wales is really in need of a population BOOM. Then, maybe some of those of ruins can get converted into new farmhouses.

I hate it when pubs put the food on a lump of wood or a piece of slate. Haven't they heard of plates? Plus you need to take out a mortgage to eat there.
