Oliver Reed sees in Alex Higgins a man honest to himself and a man who excepts himself worts and all, but he also saw a genius, a flawed one without doubt, but the spontaneous robust but brilliant way he played the game was obviously god given. The words 'snooker' and 'genius' don't belong in the same sentence! Higgins was good at knocking balls into holes with a wooden stick - he didn't split the atom, paint the Mona Lisa or write War & Peace FFS! Oliver Reed was a fine actor - probably the finest movie actor Britain ever produced. But he was also an addict who pissed much of his talent up against the wall, and like most addicts, looked for co-conspirators to keep him company. Indeed, he was so desperate for company, he insisted on buying every round. Sad, huh? He found the perfect drinking buddy in Alex Higgins, who at least had the cash - and the Irish generosity - to buy him a few back.
Is that the same Dan Hazelhurst who tricked me into thinking that his UA-cam banner was initially a row of suspended chef's pans, only to discover at second glance they are in fact a row of spun-aluminium caps for a retro amplifier? 🇬🇧🍳🤔
'Oliver Reed died from a heart attack during a break from filming Gladiator in Valletta, Malta, on the afternoon of 2 May 1999. According to witnesses, he drank eight pints of German lager, a dozen shots of rum, half a bottle of whiskey and a few shots of Hennessy cognac, in a drinking match against a group of sailors on shore leave from the H.M.S. Cumberland at a local pub called "The Pub". His bar bill totalled a little over 270 Maltese lira (almost £450). After beating five much younger Royal Navy sailors at arm-wrestling, Reed suddenly collapsed, dying en route to a hospital in an ambulance. He was 61 years old.' What a fucking legend!

Tavy@ i totally respect alex higgins the snooker player 147% he was the greatest player i ever saw! Alex couldv won the world title at least 4 times i seen. And maybe 5, 6, 7 times. But alex played to the audience and it cost im more than he won, but what a player! I remember the 1980 world final against thorburn that alex shouldv won easy so he tried to pot a very hard yellow and missed it. if he played safe he wouldv won it that year as well. But i dont thinck i wouldv liked alex higgins the man. Seemingly he was very cheeky, arroggant, and always starting fights wich he never won. And full of himself. Plus i couldnt understand 1 word he was saying! But R.I.P ALEX and thancks for the memories !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and he paid for the refreshments a true gent
Sure doesn't like being interrupted
Bill Fletcher no one likes being interrupted, it irritates the shit out of me.

I always allow the other soul to finish. It leads to me learning or laughing. I love solitude but I love company as well.
05:16 That man will be paranoid about interrupting people for the rest of his life lol. He even waited a couple of seconds after Oliver had finished speaking and was still scolded.
Apparently though Ollie hated being interrupted and was excessively mindful of interrupting others.
I do like Olli ... however that's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard
Me 😂
Yeah he rambles on. He does fascinate me but I get the impression he was a massive bully, especially when drunk.
@Tsar R Yes..... it is
By the way meant to say I Fucking love the films you've been posting. Really beautifully done. Never knew you had an artistic bone in your body! Certainly didn't show it way back when!
the greatest drinker that ever lived and an Englishman, amazing
Ye great story, you must live a sheltered life.......
Andre the giant
keith moon was his main problem, talk about punching up for madness
I could onley imagine the DTs this man would have went through if he ever quite drinking .
To all of you watching Ollie with admiration and thinking a shit ton of whisky will give you similar charisma: WARNING 1) Reed was a highly intellectual, cultured man and a brilliant character actor. They'd still call him a genius if he'd been a Church going, teetotal virgin. 2) Reed was witty and funny when drunk but only 1 per cent of people are like that: 99 per cent of drunks are tedious morons.
There's a great interview he gives to a French hairdresser where Ollie calls him a "bastard frog", completely inappropriate but hilarious.
"Do you understand"?....."I do"😂😂
Pure comedy..... brilliant 👍🤣👍🤣
Thats freaky as fuck that lamp moving around. I wouldnt be surprised if its the 'spirit' of Alex saying hi to Ollie. Who knows? It's nice that they were good buddies.
oliver reed the most charismatic human being that ever lived
You have never heard of Tom Cruise then. He’s the best of all of us. The best to ever live!!
The interviewer is a total drip!
Legend.
lmfao. ..the man was a fukin comedy genius.. jumping cuckoo monk.., ahaaaaaahaaa 😂
Tom Hardy should play him in a biopic....tho if you wanted a closer doppleganger, maybe Karl Urban or better yet Luke Evans....see the latter in High Rise for inspiration.
Hardy can pull the look off for sure, but doesn't have the class or pedigree
Reed looks like a cartoon villain
Dont interupt me. Legend.
