The scariest thing for me is that 80% of the value of these mystery boxes are usually sealed packs which, more than likely, are weighed and light packs. I would rather get $400-$450 worth of random cool cards than a pack if its a good chance it's already weighed and light.
Also most of the time they probably just google the price and pick the highest option without caring about the condition. So their claim of a $100 card could really just be $40 and you can't do anything about it. Def not worth it.

In this channel and many others though, they always present the minimum price especially for graded cards to get drama support and subs for "the money they lose" and the "contribution to society". The lowest sold listing on eBay doesn't represent reality. For example a graded card that for most non professionals around the world costs 30+ just to grade can never have a value of less than 10 just because of a lucky auction.
I always advise to buy the exact items you want and stay far away from mystery boxes unless you just want to support the person selling them. Mystery boxes are normally just a way to easly move hard to sell items (in this case lp to damaged singles) at a marked up price.
Both boxes seemed to be full with bulk cards the seller didn’t want. UA-cam box just had them in better condition. The only real value came from the booster packs.

@@Mallhall85 a first edition base zard damaged isn’t even worth 500$ funnily enough, it needs to be psa 10 and in first editions is maybe 1/200 charizards, psa 9 which is also very rare is 2k, any normal charizard is 1000 and under and if its damaged might be less the 1000

Value is pretty easy to determine though. There’s fluctuations in the market but like if I say I value a card at 4x it’s price it doesn’t mean the box is worth it

Considering u can weigh packs it's definitely risky, but I bet someone has a warehouse of Pokemon vintage packs they bought at 5-10 dollars each decade or so ago selling em for hundreds of dollars each now lol

And the more packs you have, the more heavies and the more cash to make by weighing. So it would be worthwhile from a cost/benefit standpoint. Only cost is the time it takes, but again, it’s an easy task to complete that could be knocked down during free time or by someone you trust

I would love to see this become a series. Maybe find more mystery boxes and then after a dataset of 10-20 episodes. Do a quick wrap up. Also would be interested to look at trends. I think the conditions on the cards definitely were affected by the fact that you are on UA-cam. It is really strange the packaging with the washcloth and the empty tin, it doesn't make any sense at all. Would love to see more videos like this!
The biggest concern I noticed was condition of the cards and what the cards you got were....it would be giving your best friend something for Xmas vs someone you never see. Still something but not the same attention to detail

That seems to be the only way a mystery box eliminates completely that risk. As always Pat, this was a well thought-out experiment that shows what we probably would've thought. This would have to be repeated with other mystery box sellers I'd think to see if you would find any patterns 🤔 Love the content, can't wait for the next video 🙌🏻
Gnarly video Pat. I have fallen victim to a few unfortunate mystery boxes back in the day when I was heavily into playing/collecting Yugioh cards. I think that the standard for mystery boxes have raised significantly and that the money gap you see between the two you got are just products of randomness. I do not think that the seller changed up anything because you’re a UA-camr; I know I wouldn’t.
The seller has plenty of motivation to though. They make the boxes to make profit. People are rightfully skeptical of mystery boxes so seeing a UA-camr open one and get great value out of it would entice at least enough people to buy it to make that value back

Just FYI, the "Crystal Guardians promo card" isn't a promo card. Most of the ex era, which included Crystal Guardians, had stamped cards in their reverse holo slots. So that's actually a reverse holo Bulbasaur, which can be pulled in any pack.

Once again, great video and even better video idea! I think you should make this a series to at least attempt to keep sellers honest. In this case, it looks like the seller probably oversold your version for credibility but I would’ve expected more of a discrepancy between the boxes. Overall, I’d say kudos to the seller for not breaking the bank to try and gain popularity but I think any seller would oversell their product to a popular UA-camr! Much love ❤️

Very interesting and a great way to check everything out on eBay. That is a too big of a difference for my liking but all in all great video and very informative!
What stood out to me the most was that one was almost exactly 50$ over and other 50$ under , feels like the person knows how to make a box ok-ish but never going to get more then what you paid. I understand why you didn't expose the seller since it was not a full rip off and my theory is just that since only opened 2 boxes. The damage on the cards was also a standout since it seemed again the seller used to make the normal box feel much worse .

I stumbled upon this video while doing research to start my own mystery boxes. Mostly because I recently started collecting and I overwhelmed myself by buying several collections from other people. I’ve also purchased many mystery products that always seem to be a let down. These ones aren’t terrible in comparison to the ones I’ve seen. The price differences seem pretty realistic, here. You can only sell so many boxes at an 80-85% value in order to sell one that’s worth more than what you’re paying for. Gotta make money as the seller. The sellers that advertise vintage packs and make 300% profit on the boxes not receiving vintage packs are the dangerous ones.
Thank you for doing this video Pat! I don't trust mystery boxes at all because the prices of cards always go up and down and feel the UA-cam box got better cards. I wouldn't buy from that seller anyways after what the non-UA-cam box had.
It's nice to see this exposed instead of exploited. One UA-camr who opens items and buys mystery boxes on his channel openly complains and says he will contact the seller and remind them he has a channel if he doesn't at least make his money back.
I've always felt like influencers get better items as opposed to the common person. Even with subscription boxes you can tell the value and even the way they do customer service is better for influencers.
Getting a mystery box is like getting a booster box. Someone gets the big hit box and someone is not getting anything. Just by doing one experience it is not easy to determine the answer to this. But it was indeed an interesting thing to observe. (Altough I wouldn't jump on conclusion too quickly)
I'm proud to say that when I sell something, I always add something nice, no matter who the seller is. That being said, I'm always going to come out on top. I have to if I'm going to make my money back and more. Mystery boxes in themselves make very little sense if you're the buyer.

For 500, I would expect some very hard to get sealed products or spin-off products. Like a pokemon-monopoly boardgame. Also other merchandise like pluche pokemon's, card sleeves, playmats etc. Random cards are not worth it for me as a player. Only once i bought a mysterybox for mtg and got all the above (not pokemons, but mtg goodies) Very interesting video, maybe I put on all my orders the text "for youtube content".

What stood out to me the most was that one was almost exactly 50$ over and other 50$ under , feels like the person knows how to make a box ok-ish but never going to get more then what you paid. I understand why you didn't expose the seller since it was not a full rip off and my theory is just that since only opened 2 boxes. The damage on the cards was also a standout since it seemed again the seller used to make the normal box feel much worse .

And forgive me but I really judged you before watching your channel and listening to your brilliant knowledge and expertise , I’m an avid collector, I wasn’t to keen if the name “Deep pocket monster “ and I was upset with Leon about the 90s pop up shop . And I said some nasty things about him and I since apologized even if he didn’t see it or even if you don’t see this . I’m honestly very happy I’m a subscriber, the whole thing was him having such a huge emphasis on,washelping those with mental issues. Not only have I suffered from anxiety but lost friends do to many underlining and diagnosed and un diagnosis I’ve lost my father and my mother is suffering from stage 4 cancer and I was just upset, I also really wanted to go . I believe it takes a really women or man . To adit wrongs and fix things and that’s why I’m even bringing it up . Anyways I love this channel very much thank you!

I stumbled upon this video while doing research to start my own mystery boxes. Mostly because I recently started collecting and I overwhelmed myself by buying several collections from other people. I’ve also purchased many mystery products that always seem to be a let down. These ones aren’t terrible in comparison to the ones I’ve seen. The price differences seem pretty realistic, here. You can only sell so many boxes at an 80-85% value in order to sell one that’s worth more than what you’re paying for. Gotta make money as the seller. The sellers that advertise vintage packs and make 300% profit on the boxes not receiving vintage packs are the dangerous ones.

Thank you for doing this video Pat! I don't trust mystery boxes at all because the prices of cards always go up and down and feel the UA-cam box got better cards. I wouldn't buy from that seller anyways after what the non-UA-cam box had.
It's nice to see this exposed instead of exploited. One UA-camr who opens items and buys mystery boxes on his channel openly complains and says he will contact the seller and remind them he has a channel if he doesn't at least make his money back.
I've always felt like influencers get better items as opposed to the common person. Even with subscription boxes you can tell the value and even the way they do customer service is better for influencers.
Moral of the story: When buying Pokémon cards, tell them you’re a UA-camr!

Getting a mystery box is like getting a booster box. Someone gets the big hit box and someone is not getting anything. Just by doing one experience it is not easy to determine the answer to this. But it was indeed an interesting thing to observe. (Altough I wouldn't jump on conclusion too quickly)

I'm proud to say that when I sell something, I always add something nice, no matter who the seller is. That being said, I'm always going to come out on top. I have to if I'm going to make my money back and more. Mystery boxes in themselves make very little sense if you're the buyer.

For 500, I would expect some very hard to get sealed products or spin-off products. Like a pokemon-monopoly boardgame. Also other merchandise like pluche pokemon's, card sleeves, playmats etc. Random cards are not worth it for me as a player.
Only once i bought a mysterybox for mtg and got all the above (not pokemons, but mtg goodies)

UA-camrs definitely get special boxes alot but sometimes you get lucky and you still get a decent box as a normal person

Yo, that looks like a rag I saw my mom cleaning the dishes with that is so funny. Also, I think that it was not on purpose that the seller sold the "YOU" box and it turned out to be $61.75 less that what the buyer bought it for. I can't wait for tcg to have brilliant stars ✨
