My partner and I have just booked to go see this for the first time and we are both very much looking forward to it. My great grandfather fought in the first world war and grandparents in the second. My partner was also with the Argyll and Sutherland highlanders and very interested!
You will find loads of things of interest. Every year there is a WW1 area where a lot is explained by the commentator. WW2 is featured mostly with many displays of equipment, all around there are encampments and you can talk to the exhibitors who are often living the life of a soldier over the weekend, cooking their own food as they did. As for modern times there are more recent vehicles and one or two current ones you can look round. Almost everything goes into the arena during the day and the main commentator is very knowledgeable.
Yes there was so much to see. Things going on all day. The Lancaster flypast was a highlight for me as I had not seen it before. I found out today there is going to be a huge kit of one with a 3 foot wingspan Similar to the U boat all fully detailed
Thank you It was not easy to see the camera screen in the bright sun. This year I knew more what to expect though so tried to get some better filming. There is so much to see at this event and seeing the Lancaster made my day
Yes there are stalls selling all kinds of things from clothing to genuine equipment, maybe even a military vehicle. Also a selection of food stalls This years event is on 6th & 7th July if you are thinking of going
What on earth is that thing which makes an entrance at 3.24? Is it a toon tank? (Yes, it is). It's an absolute disgrace to pass this thing off as a replica and an insult to the paying public who probably don't know any better.
We had to laugh at some ones comment about it. We were looking inside and heard this person say You can tell its old It has that old smell. Well we had just been chatting to the owners. It is a replica made out of plywood and if I remember right has a Ford engine. Something like they use in a transit van. It is about 2/3rd scale and has been used in several film and TV productions. It was not built to fool anyone but to put in displays like here so people could get an idea of how they were used in combat without the huge expense of building a full size heavyweight tank that would be very costly to take to displays. whereas this is relatively cheap to run and transport.
