Louis would you mind sharing some stories about HR and I'm curious too when you talked to HR did HR ever talked about bass player Joe Mondragon ......did you ever meet Joe 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Im a big fan of HR since the early 60s....saw him in 76 with Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow, Les Paul, Bucky Pizerelli, Buddy Emmons, etc. in Dallas. Met him and talked to him a little...very gracious, nice guy....smoking performance...one of a kind.
Thanks so much for these posts. Great memories for me. When i was a teanager HR was my hero..I sat in front of him and watched him play the tunes in these videos..Also played with him at several of his seminars..Great teacher and very nice guy....
So true.. What a Gold find in seeing this and the other videos I was able to do from the DVD Pat Hicks had sent. me.....Thanks so very much for enjoying this one....
First album I bought as a teen was HR's Whatever's Fair in the mid 60's. Neat how HR could, I call it, "popify" a song, play it brilliantly and complete it in under 3 minutes. One of my favorites is "On a Clear Day".
No, I just know that he made a comment on one of my videos about 10 years ago when I was just starting to make some reasonable chord solos. I think it was "Blame it on my Youth" where Billy thought I sounded like his bro LOL.
No one...No one!... Sounds like Howard Roberts!... My all time favorite Jazz guitarist!...Thanks for posting this...and post any you have on HR!...Love it!...:)
SIRONEDRAGON HI, Ken...Been a while since we've talked!... No, I never did meet HR, but I do know Jay, his son...and did an interview with him for Just Jazz Guitar magazine, about three years ago... Jay's a nice guy!... Hope you're doing fine..and be sure to post any!...Any!...HR video you get your hands on!...:) Best always....Rowland...
Rowlandph Great that you did the interview with Jay . That must have been fun !!! I am hoping to get another old film of HR......Of when HR was here in town playing. Pray that the owner of that film converts it to DVD soon....
Juan I went to GIT in 1983 and saw HR maybe more times than most of the guys at school did. It seemed like I was at school a lot LOL ....But HR was always really nice to me...and he let me play his blonde custom Oval hole guitar.. OR should I say I tried to play it. The strings were SO heavy and thick and the strings SO high off the fretboard I gave it back pretty quick LOL....
Riley Did you ever see HR play one of his Fusion guitars at GIT ?? I never did ...HR one time let me play his Blonde Hollowbody. But I never saw him play a Fusion
I did the gear for Jeff and Howard. In fact the company I worked for (over 45 years) still has 3 of Jeff's basses including his 67 P bass. Rick at Royal was trying to keep them. I was fired and had to sign a NDA so I can't tell Jeff
Ron... what year was this concert ? Did HR have just the FUSION guitar he is playing or did he also have another FUSION guitar as a back up? Also what kind of MESA BOOGIE is that ? and what did HR think of it?
@@SIRONEDRAGON It must have been after 1980. He had many guitars. We carried a large trunk full of all different kinds of string instruments, banjo, 12 string, gut string, fender, gibson...I don't remember that Boogie at all. I was working for about 12 very busy player at the time, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Al Casey, Paul Jackson Jr, Ray Parker, David T Walker, Dennis Budimir, Mitch Holder......

HR was pretty much a perfectionist about his sound. All these sidemen were perfectionists. There was always a high level of comfort & trust when they played together!
@@georgeandrus3500 I didn't look at the video again, but what I remember was that he was playing through a mesa boogie. And that's something new to HR back then. I don't think he had command of that amp. And there were other things. There was a some problems he had to work through.
Great info right on that is awesome. I listened to the Chopin and sure enough. HR loved uh classical music. He and Johnny Smith loved it very much.😎🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😁😁🤠
please Ken ! stop posting these videos ! I do not need this kind of shit to make feel more insecure than i already am .Now can you tell me where i can sell 12 guitars cheap !
Freddy.. i was watching a video of Jimi Hendrix and one person said that when Eric Clapton heard Jimi ..that he left the place very discouraged ... fortunately Eric came out of that...
Jolly is playing from charts…just smooth and perfectly supportive!
Both Pete and HR were great studio guitarist and keyboardist.🎹🎹
No one is better than Pete Jolly. His piano playing is flawless. No one like him.
MAny thanks again.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

yes! i attended 2 HR seminars in the 70s, i even got on stage and played a tune with him in 1978.
