This interview shows how spent Jorge was after the fight. Physically, emotionally, exhausted. Colby is indeed cardio beast and well deserved the win. Still, no shame putting it all out there, Gamebred Masvidal. Winning, losing, that's fight life. Respect to both of these bad arse warriors. Godspeed!
It shows Jorge knew he was gonna lose so he wanted to get that paycheck.

Yeah he was emotionally spent even before the fight. Like literally. He hasn't been enjoying this whole build up. He didn't even look so confident coming into this fight, like he did against Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. He knew how good Colby is, and how much he was putting on the line. He probably regarded Colby pretty highly as a fighter, though sub-conciously..

I honestly never seen Jorge this defeated - physically and emotionally. What a performance by both of them. A well deserved win by Colby's insane wrestling skills and endurance, but still huge props to Jorge for staying strong, putting up a good fight, and making the distance despite the loss.

When Colby said he in the presser that he was going to make Jorge QUIT. He delivered exactly what he said he was going to do. There was a Point in round 4 where you see Masvidals entire mentality just give out, He realised he was 4 rounds behind, couldnt hurt colby, couldnt stop him, and was getting destroyed.
Jorge got a big bonus for not finishing Colby in the 4th round when he stunned Colby.

People also forget Jorge iced Cerrone when Cerrone was in peak form. Cerrone was 12-1 in his last 13 fights and had only lost to the champ when he ran into Jorge. Cerrone was coming off 3 spectacular finishes including the first to ever knockout Matt Brown. Jorge has his stripes. He was just never champ.

Cowboy never shows up in big fights....and he was still past his prime when him and Jorge fought. I'm not saying Jorge is not good. It's even more to it, I think. In some sense, I think they both didn't really want to finish one another, just to have a clear domination, and since Colby had the upper hand, I think he holded back in some points just to let Masvidal keep going.

Masvidal got handled in every aspect of the fight. Covington threw and landed more punches, was more accurate, out wrestled him, had better cardio etc. If the fight went on for more time, Masvidal would have been finished by Covington. Masvidal needed that one punch k.o.but Covington isn't going to let that happen.
Suffered the most humiliating loss of his career and stayed classy. Respect 💯

Man I like both of these guys, when I heard Masvidal's voice getting a little shaky in the post fight interview, that hurt. He fought back some tears.

I've been a fan of Masvidal since his street fighting days, I'm sad for him man. This fight was about more than just money... it was for pride, respect and rivalry. This was probably his most meaningful fight to date and he lost. I hope he can let this fuel him for a few more amazing fights to come

Very reminiscent of Conor/Khabib for me. Jorge wasn't willing to let his hands go because of the wrestling. And like Conor he held up ok at first then the pace just overwhelmed him.

His cardio was good he went 25 minutes carrying Colby on his back the whole time and had enough in the tank not to get finnished , lost the fight easily but his cardio was not the problem.

The cardio wasn't the problem. Masvidal was hopeless on the grind and used all he had to survive the fight hoping to land something. He threw a few knees had a counter punch that hurt Colby, but Colby hurt Masvidal more times. A marathon runner would look the same way, just helpless to get up. Getting choked, but not enough to tap, does tire out anyone also. Wrestling and also getting choked is not easy.
You can see in Jorge that he didn’t imagined what actually happened, he must have thought it would be like in the old times when they used to train together and he used to win some sessions, Colby has became a monster since, Jorge takedown defense is one of the best too.
Yeah, except Jorge didn’t win in the old times either. Colby said he has always been this dominant in wrestling.
Makes us doubt Jorge’s version of history: that he started getting better at wrestling so Colby didn’t want to wrestle him anymore.

@@loganmccoy4950 Masvidal did actually stuff a lot of those takedowns. Colby just spams them like his controller is broken so yeah he got a lot of them too but Jorge stuffed a ton. Jorge does have good takedown defense - but not good enough for Colby. There is a difference...
You just know this one hurt for him. No shame in losing to Usman and Colby. They're the two best in the welterweight division right now. Jorge can still get some good fights in the top 10.

Other than a few good shots and some good leg kicks, Colby totally bossed him in there. Drowned him. Covington unreal conditioning he could go 10 rounds. Dustin gets mauled just as bad or worse than Jorge if it happens
All the best shots were from Jorge. That leg kick did damage. He dropped Colby too. He split Colby open. Colby dominated from a points perspective but he had more visible damage then Jorge.

Everyone says this but I have never actually seen someone just admit they lost and not give excuses or reasons other than they were better tonight. Jorge had tons of excuses he got poked in the eye, cheap shots, wrestling was off, and so on. The bar is so low on fighters accepting defeat that even this is considered being a good sport

Sure he is 37 but Colby is not exactly 25 either, he is also 34 years old. He got dominated here save for one punch from which Colby instantly got up, smiling.

Colby looked extremely nervous before and during the first half of the fight. I think if he came in better mentally, I think Colby would have finished Jorge. I think this was an off night for Colby. And he still dominated Masvidal. Colby is one of the best fighters ever to compete at 170. Masvidal should retire 100%. For the first time his winning record has fell below 70%. And with the surging contenders it's going to be hard to come back from that. He looked slow and unathletic, especially compared to Colby. And Colby isn't even one of the super athletes of 170. The beef is 100% real, you could see how this loss broke Jorge. This is the thrill and Agony of the sport.

Masvidal has always been a hot and cold fighter. Don't let the "badass" highlight reel fool you. Look at his overall record. He wins a few, gets overconfident, then loses fights just by being outworked.

Colby winning was inevitable but I thought Masvidal did pretty good. He wasn't giving Colby the chance to submit him at all. He was doing alright against Colby with his stand up and managed to score a knockdown too. He was exhausted but he endured and survived the pressure that comes from a fight with Colby Covington knowing how energetic he is with his cardio and world class wrestling.

Where does Masvidal go from here now? 3 consecutive losses, against Usman twice and Colby and they aren’t going anywhere for the time being. A potential rematch with Nate Diaz who is on a 2 fight losing streak could be one to make or a rematch with Wonderboy who is on a losing streak himself. Limited options at 170 now and at age 37 I don’t see him getting back to a title run anytime soon. All that being said, masvidal is a true original and he accomplished a lot from starting out as a street brawler to having fought for a belt in the UFC.
