You have to hit save on file 1. And you had to have gotten there by choosing edit from file 2. Otherwise, save file 1 and update in file 2 links panel. -EG
I am a student and I am trying to do something similar. I places a few indesign documents into one. But when I submitted it, my professor said that although the big document was packaged, the individual indesign documents within it were not packaged first so the fonts did not show up. I have gone back and packaged the original individual files, but I don't know how to include that within the package of the larger/combined document. Any help? Am I even making sense?
In the folder that contains the file where you’re putting all the other files you need to make sure you have a folder called Document fonts (exact spelling, exact capitalization). Any font you used in any/all of the linked files need to go in there. When you package make sure you package up the fonts too. If you use Adobe fonts (to send to someone else that has a CC subscription) and sync then you won’t have to do any of this. Also, if you use a font management app you can activate the font before you start working. Hope that helps! -EG
@@claudioabado3317 You might look into creating a custom shortcut, if there isn't one already in the version you are using (Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts).
Hi Erica, Thank you for the excellent series. - I have a 110 page preschool textbook that is complete. For the teacher's guide I want to put each page inside an InDesign page so that I can annotate the lesson plans that accompany each page. Thus, I want the pages from the original text to be 1/4 size on the page of the teacher's guide. I just tried to place but it would not take. Is there any trick or process to accomplish this task?
Did you use the Place command and turn on your import options to choose your page range? I would put guides on the page so that you can click and drag to the 1/4 page size quickly. What exactly isn’t working? How far do you get? -EG

I need help. After placing file 1 into file 2, I made updates in file 1. However, those updates did not show on file 2.

Great! You may add Alt+double click as shortcut for Edit Original.

Is CMD/CTRL-SHIFT-P an existing Keyboard Shortcut in the English version? I can't find it in the French version :(
Sorry, I don’t know if it is in the French version (we all use the English version). -EG
@@CreativePro I *have* to use the French version for teaching... I normally use the English version but never knew about this shortcut.
