    Morning Folks 👋,,
    I'm a moderator/ group expert on Mitsubishi Montero USA (MMUSA)
    on Facebook
    here in the States.
    Its debated on the group regarding the paper/ washable filters.
    The MAF sensor is mounted directly on the airbox lid.
    I personally haven't experienced this,,
    but its been reported that the washable filters have the potential for fouling the MAF sensor over time due to micro oil particulates attaching to the blades and sensor itself,, Rendering the unit ineffective and wreaking havoc with the engine ECU.
    That said,,
    I've used K&N filters in the past,, but on Carby bikes,,
    but I am using the paper filter on my 3.5L Mitsu. 🤷‍♂️
    Just my 2cents.
    Cheers 🍻,, G.

      This Delboy is a guesser. The ECU has an adaptive table and yes, it does relearn fuelling within set parameters but this is for instances such as after a service when valves are adjusted, air filter changed etc ...basically a factory reset. The factory filter isn't just a random design, it damps out sound waves and provides a buffer for the high velocity airflow changes when intake valves open/close across the whole rev range UNLIKE a race filter only designed for working at high revs.This exhaust and filter combo needs a ECU flash (ever wondered why Triumph provide these?) as it will run way too lean. I'm amazed how some of my customers quote this guy who is just some hobbyist making videos to earn cash. Why do people get sucked into this BS from some stranger with no qualifications they have never even met?

    I would all ways use the stock filters they will all ways filter the best, I gues if you drop the bike in deep water you would be changing the filter any way. But if your conscious about the land fill part you could just burn and use the ashess for compost. But each one to their own.

My Versys needs to have the tank removed to get at filters, plugs etc. Ranting aside that bike is beautiful !!! I bet you and Penny can't wait for the new riding season. Many thanks to you both. • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому +1

      According to the video on TEC's own website, they developed the pipe and the filter working with DNA through rolling road testing, this, apparently is how they came to the conclusion that you need to run the rubber snorkel in the air box AND the baffle in the exhaust. with these consideration the auto adjust can happily cope with these mods..! but naturally, take those out and you'd certainly need a remap !

    My concern would be the level of filtration, the limitations of which can be demonstrated in Project Farm's video where he tests a oiled cotton K&N filter against paper filters ua-cam.com/video/sJ3L-E-ufYo/v-deo.html

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому

      Like i said, it's an interesting debate, and paper filters do catch smaller particles..and it's all very well testing a pile of different filters.. but they were all clean.. no filter works once its bunged up.. and with a washable, you can keep it clean every few months of you wanted to.. or even after a particularly dusty day out mud pluggin... but with paper ones.. you'd have to buy new ones over and over...or would you wait 10k miles to the next service.?.. Just my take on it mate.!

      @buzzman3200 Рік тому

      @@Moonfleet41 Yes all good points. I was surprised at the results of the Project Farm test, the difference between the cotton and paper filters was significant. For the recreational rider, as opposed to the racer, it makes me wonder if the engine would suffer premature wear, especially between the pistion rings and cylinder bore. I suppose it just goes to show you can't have it all.

    Thinks: Why did Triumph place the air filtration there? Yes, a good plenum chamber is vital & once molded, can quite happily survive unmolested behind the electron-pixie's massive telephone exchange 'plate', but for ease of necessary access, wouldn't a pancake filter nestled under the seat pan's nose, be better able to feed yon rubbery snorkels with the good stuff?
    Thanks to the central nervous system, a wet crotch is a fairly good indicator of any bike's fording limit, & will herald any imminant 'suck&clang' malarkey with unswerving accuracy, I never leave home without mine. Have a fun week : )xx

    Thanks for showing that task, Del. They must have absolute clean air at Triumph UK to construct the air filter (which you clean ever so often when riding dirt roads on a Scrambler) behind all those electrical components ;-) Even my venerable Transalp 600 PD06 has just the air filter housing (3 screws) behind the plastik fairing, no wiring, no undoing the carbs. Only the K&N to wash and reoil from time to time.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, i think this bike has been a victim of form over function in a small way here.. whilst the filter breaths through the snorkel at the top, and that area is free from clutter, as you saw it's still a need to put the wiring furniture somewhere safe away from heat and moisture.. and i guess this was the only place..!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому +1

      As long as you blow from a safe distance so as not to rupture the paper pleats, and of course from the BACK so you don't blow the dirt deeper into the filter... it's ok a few times, but that doesn't get them clean mate, just removes the worst of the loose stuff.. paper filters get clogged at a microscopic level and they simply need to be replaced.. if you get a washable one and the kit to clean it.. you'll never buy another filter again.. and the cost is maybe 2 or three paper ones at best..!

    Thanks for the viedeo. I have a question regarding the Euro 5 and your note to leave the rubber snorkel (5:31 - 5:59): Do you know what the technical reason is to let it stay compared to Eruo 4? I understand that you don't need the booster plug and that the booster plug isn't necessary/notuseful. But I don't get it with the snorkel. It's the same design I guess for Euro 5 and 4. Would be great to get an idea what the technical benif is to let it stay. Thanks and warm regards from Germany.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому +2

      Hi Martin, check in with TEC Bike Parts for a more precise explanation as they've done all the dyno testing in conjunction with DNA on both the Euro 4 and Euro 5 bikes... and it was discovered on the dyno that the Euro 5 bikes run too lean with the snorkel removed... which was not the case on Euro 4, apparantly the Euro 5 bikes run leaner than before to comply with the ever tightening European regulations, so you must leave the snorkel in.

    • @TheOriginalCoda
      @TheOriginalCoda Рік тому

      @@Moonfleet41 That's so effing annoying. Apparently the airflow is improved by 40% by the washable filter, so if the bike can compensate for that, why can't it compensate for the 8% difference in flow rate that the snorkel provides? • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому

      @@TheOriginalCoda That is apparently so according to TEC bike parts who developed the filter with DNA on a dyno.. and apparently No, it cannot push as far as the snorkel removal too as it then ran lean. and it seems the remap is a lot more of a challenge on the E5 engines ! but i run my bike with baffle in and snorkel in, and it makes a big improvement, and im more then happy with the sound. Good point Allen, the data on the website claims 40% increase in air flow and that has to be a benefit! Have a good week there, keep safe, D&Px

    Nice! Never used the DNA! I currently use the sprint filter, that doesn't need to be oiled and are waterproof (just blow them every service). Nice stuff! Thanks for the video!

    Are you sure Booster Plug doesn’t work on the new Euro 5 model? If not, any clue why.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому

      TEC Bike Parts did extensive testing with the Euro 5 bikes using the booster plug and found no benefit what so ever... By all means consult directly with them if you need clarification mate !

      The new ECUs set a tamper alert. That means at least having a permanent service icon (check engine light) on your dash. The booster plug people go into this on their website.

    Forecast of doom !!
    Six months to year from now I'm gonna see endless amounts of these with ridiculous electrical issues because some ham fisted DIY'er has fitted an upgraded filter and screwed the pooch on reassembly
    Indicator switches powering anything and flashing full beams 🤣👍
    Don't ye just love modern bikes 👎👎

    The only reasonable benefit of a paper filter is that you can get back to riding quicker. Unless you have TWO washable filters, you have to wait for the filter to dry completely prior to re-oiling it and getting it back into the bike. If you have a second filter, you can always have one at the ready on the shelf to eliminate the wait time for drying. Of course, that also means double the expense of the washable filter (ouch).

      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому +1

      Not as bad as it looks as technically speaking, when you fit a new filter (or a freshly cleaned one), you should run the bike as I demonstrated from stone cold, preferably overnight, to allow it to auto adjust to the new inlet resistance, so a perfect chance to let the washable filter dry!

      Hi Richard, not so much the placement, it's a common location, it's just all the clutter they have to place in front of it now!!
