As someone who was in charge of lights for a couple of shows, if someone did this and asked for these kind of improvised lights I'd flip my shit

I don't know why. Having done a few shows where I was in charge of the lights too, there was always a single panel where you had all the light sets on individual sliders, so it wouldn't be hard to go into manual mode at all.
Rectus Erectus it is not hard to change color lights on the spot. If he ask for designs that’d be another thing. But blue lights or a blackout is sooo simple. If you can’t do them on the spot than you shouldn’t of been in charge of lights.

as a lighting director/ designer/ executor for live shows this was horrific and i'm offended with and for the lighting people lol

I work the lighting board for a theatre and this was a nightmare
I thought Bo had these already planned out as part of his skit considering how often it happens.
It really depends on if he pays for a Lighting Designer to travel with him on his tours. If yes, then it's loosely planned. If no, then it's definitely not planned and the LD is just doing the best they can.
TS theProducer Seeing as how the lighting is a huge part of some of his bits, it would be unprofessional to not have a lighting person.

For anyone interested, this is sort of a homage the Steve Martin. During his stand up, he would ask for a blue spotlight, and it wouldn't happen. He would then spend the next few minutes pretending to be really angry at the lighting guy. Bo probably hears this and decided to incorporate it into his shows, but obviously with his own twist.

Okay, but after seeing his use of light in his most recent special when he could control it, I understand the penchant for good lights. He absolutely destroys these light guys in Inside
To be fair, he had the luxury of cutting and editing and retrying over months, and it just had to look good for the camera rather than the whole stage
