Nightwish only did it once, on 29 May 2021 during the second virtual show (they did two virtual shows on 28/29 May 2021 during lock-down). And never stop rambling, Jynger! Oh Emppu..... 😄🥰 This is my favourite song from the album and one of my favourites from them ever. It's light and heavy, bright and a bit sinister - so nuanced and complex, but still flowing. I just wish they would play it live, but at least we got to see it once......
The female bassist is Merel Bechtold, others gitarists are Frank Schiphorst, and Roel Kaller. On keys Jack Driessen. Henning Basse - clean vocals, George Oosthoek - grunts. There have been a few changes through the years but I believe these are the members as in this video.
PAN or "Pancake" (According to Emppu 🤣): Pan is about creativity and storytelling. There's references to mythology Neil Geihman, Guillermo Del Toro, Pat Rothfuss, Tolkien, and many others. One of the key pieces to remember is that Pan has a couple meanings. One of them is literally "Everything" Like Pansexual, Pandemic, Panorama. Human Creativity is all encompassing. So many of the references are multi-meaning. The Labyrinth reference isn't just Greek Myth. It's the Jim Henson Movie, Pan's Labyrinth, and more. It's in essence a song about Tropes and the Beauty of the way humans use them. It's the Panoply of Human Ideas. Pan is also the scientific name of chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) and lyrics mention "An ape in awe before a door" which is claimed to be a reference to the scene of "Space Odyssey 2001" with hominids and extraterrestrial monolith NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.
"Pancake" would be his concern that the live version will fall flat. As far I remember it has been played "live" only on the second day of their Virtual show. It would have been good addition to their H:II:N tour, but maybe they wanted to save our yodeling midget. 😂 Pan is a genus name for two species - panins. In addition to agressive and male domianted chimpanzee, there is another one: more peaceful and female-dominated - Bonobo (Pan paniscus). The genus name itself is generally thought to have been inspired by the name of the Greek God of wild, shepherds and music.
Tuomas has challenged every musician in Nightwish with this song! The lyrics & the video all have intricate detail to interpret your own meaning. Are the playing cards the ones we have been dealt? Is life is like a game of checkers, backgammon, chess & dice - games of skills & strategy and / or games of chance & luck?
This song is so amazingly complex, both vocally and instrumentally. Every time I listen to it I pick out something new. Marko's bass line in this is so clear and clean that I would swear he was playing finger-style! Gthic has some very nice jewelry too, an excellent choice of sponsors 👍 Keep rocking Jynger 🤗
