Demonstrators in Oakland call for Mayor Sheng Thao to resign following FBI search

Sunday evening, a group rallied at Oakland City Hall calling for Mayor Sheng Thao to resign after federal agents searched her residence Thursday. Several of those at this rally are also organizers in the effort to recall Thao.
Those at the rally criticized the mayor for not making a public comment following the FBI search at her home on Thursday or following the incident Wednesday where 15 people were shot at an unsanctioned Juneteenth event near Lake Merritt.
On Friday, Thao’s attorney said they have no information that Thao is or will be the target of any investigation. “She’s hiding from nothing,” her attorney said.
