    Thank you for the video. I have a 2017 Hyundai Sonata SE and your way works great. Hyundai helped me out with the lights in the front above the mirror because after you unscrew the screws and pull it down, you don't have to do anything else but twist the connectors off and plug in your new bulbs. Doing it your way kept me from breaking and scratching anything up. Your video is much appreciated.

      You are most welcome. I caution everyone who says,"Oh, you can just pop the lens out using a butter knife." All I can say is good luck, but understand there is a chance that you may damage the unit. Why take the chance when a few more minutes of work eliminates that chance? I am glad you did it the way I showed you. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. All the best.

    Be careful on the vanity light! (Under the sun visor) If you touch off a node in there with a piece of metal (your pliers perhaps) you will blow a fuse! Luckily this is just a small 10 amp fuse in the fuse section next to the drivers left knee. It will cause all your interior lights to go out, your clock to go out, and your remote to lock and unlock the car to not work. The fuse is the LP ROOM fuse that should be combined in the yellow bracket with your radio fuse.

      I have a question. What do you mean by touching off a node? Sorry i am not smart with it comes to electrical stuff.

    • @JaredBell58
      @JaredBell58 8 років тому

      +Taylor Brown any form of exposed wiring or metal that has current flowing through it, most likely a contact surface that is generally used for testing or allowing current to flow to another object, like the two contacts for the bulb. If you ground the "node" current will flow the circuit at a higher amount than with the bulb or whatever is supposed to be there. Since the pliers you are using probably are much less resistance than what is supposed to be there, it will cause much more current to flow (ohms law V=IR) thus causing a small amperage fuse to blow.

    Thanks for a great video. I have a 2011 Sonata, 2.0T, just like you. I was able to pop out the light cover on both side of the map lights without removing the whole piece. It made it a lot easier and saved me a lot of time. Also, my dome lights are the same size as the map lights and its got two separate lights, instead of one like yours, which you mentioned in the video that some come with two lights.

      I was scrolling through the comments praying someone would mention this. I saw another video in which the guy was just able to pry the map lamp cover off to change the bulb (as opposed to taking the whole unit out) but that was a 2011 with sunroof. Now I have a 2012 2.0T without sunroof and was wondering if it'd be the same (cos I really don't wanna take down the whole unit) And from your comment, I'm guessing its the same across board. Thanks

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 років тому

      Maurice Akana I have seen that it is possible but I have not done it and I think there could be a possibility to crack or damage the unit and with my method there is next to none. It is a little harder but not impossible. Thanks.

      The owners' manual instructs you to simply remove the lense, so I have to think that's OK. Look it up. Plus, after watching Richard's (Excellent!) video, I examined and popped the lense out while I had it apart, and it looks to be safe. They just clip on to little pins on the main unit. I wouldn't recommend doing it a million times, but once every 5 years or so when a bulb blows out should be fine!

    Hi, I just recently changed my interior lights to these same LED lights and now when I click the "door" button they are very dim. When I click the single light thou it is bright and looks great. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 років тому +5

      Stephanie Sheehan Are they dim when the doors are closed and when they are open? Mine are very dimly lit with the switch on DOOR and the doors closed which mean a current is always flowing through them. This was also the case with the original incandescent bulbs too but they were to inefficient to throw any light when they were on the DOOR setting. I don't worry about that because they would take a month to drain the batteries. If it bothers you just set them to OFF. Thanks.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 років тому +1

      I would say it's a bright cool white color. Getting accurate color in dark conditions is very hard. If you are concerned about it you can always purchase just one light and to test the light color before you commit to the entire purchase. Thanks.

    Hey Richard, I was trying to swap out my lights after watching your vids and just started with the Driver-side Vanity light.. When trying to plug the light in it seemed to somehow short out the car? Do you have any idea what might've happened? Not pitching any blame in any way just wondering if I missed something.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 років тому +1

      As you see in the video I did not have that issue so I am not sure what could cause a short. Did you blow a fuse? Remember that the body of the the car is ground, this includes the roof of the car. The only thing I can think of here is that somehow you shorted the + terminal to the - terminal or the + terminal to the roof - . Please tell me what you find.

    • @tophersymps
      @tophersymps 9 років тому +1

      It was a fuse.. only happened on the Vanity light so far.. I was able to just swap out the fuse and everything was fine. I'm no pro on electricity or cars so I don't fully understand how I shorted it but that's definitely what happened.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 років тому +1

      Yes. the map lights do that. There is a slight amount of power to them even when they are off. This happens with the original incandescent lights as well but they are so inefficient that they will not illuminate the LED lamps are so efficient that even a slight amount of energy will illuminate them. Understand that the power is being used regardless of the light you use in the map light. Thanks.

    You don't need those tools I used a butter knife with a latex glove over the end worked just fine.

      I can't recommend doing this as the knife can cause a short. Thanks.

    For the map lights, just pop the lense cover off.

      +Chris Manzi Thanks but I will do my method. I am concerned about cracking the lens.

      Yes, much less work, pry carefully from inside center of lens and it will save much time and effort.

    Does it work on a hyundai elantra 2017 value edition?

      I do not know what size the bulbs are on the elantra 2017 value edition but you could check. As long as the bulbs are the correct size they should work. Unfortunately I do not have access to a elantra 2017 value edition to check. Thanks.
