The double exposure is what we would usually call 'a happy accident.' I think its an incredibly beautiful image, and more so for the deep passion and story so richly laid in your mom and in you, and now in your stories intertwined. I see it as you have a great deal of your mother within you.
I honestly love the double exposure because it’s you and your mom and it’s beautiful. But also how did the accidental double exposure even happen? I didn’t think it could be done w Yashica
thank you for your comment! it definitely is a unique photo. and honestly i'm not sure, i took the first photo and it didn't allow me to advance and i took the second photo which led to the double exposure
I second the ♥on the double exposure! It has a "my mother lives in me" vibe, which is so nice. What does Bob Ross say? "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." 😊📸
Loved the photos! Great first roll and way to be honest about the process and some of the things that didn't go as planned. The video itself was really beautiful too! Also just want to say I am so pumped to be your 500th subscriber!!
I love taking self portraits. Of been doing it since I was 16. I am 76 now. I use a 1957 Yashica Mat with the 75mm Lumaxar f3.5 lens. I was a wedding portrait and press photographer in Norfolk UK during 1960s. I used two Yashica Mats for nearly everything plus a Praktica with a 30mm f3. 5 Lydith lens when I needed a wider angle of view.
wow! that's amazing! i love the idea of continuously documenting yourself as you grow older, and paired with your yashica, i'm sure it's a blast to use aha
Good job! Got my first medium format camera, same as yours, and I eagerly await deliver this weekend. Gonna spend the next week at UA-cam University studying the cameras method of operation and strategically plan how I will shoot my first roll. Take care!
Great photos and really well made video! I think the photo at 4:38 is my favorite. Hilarious that we both posted videos about our Yashica TLRs on the same day lol
I managed to clean my yashica mat 124 on my own, it’s fairly simple, just need a spanner wrench or vacuum pad to open the lens~ oh but also check if the fungus is just on the surface rather than inside. Though I think the haze added a cool vintage vibe to the photos 😅
thanks bon! and ah the fungus is not on the surface unfortunately 😅i cleaned up the lens front and back so the fungus is inside, which is pretty unfortunate because the lens can't be opened from what i heard
@@jaycielinh ah, not sure about the 124-G, but my 124 was easy to open 😵 but there’s probably someone in Toronto who services old cameras haha I mean, there’s one in Calgary 💀
Really liked the progression throughout your first roll! My Yashica is on its way and this video really helped me to keep in mind about the quirks behind shooting a TLR haha
This camera is great I have had one off and on since 1981. I still have one and love it. Hope you enjoy yours and look for a good used Yashica 635 with the 35 mm kit and the wide and tel lens kit.
I also have a lazy shutter on my 124G. The trick is every time you press the shutter, just press and hold it a little longer. The flare resistance on the Yashinon lens is pretty bad. I upgraded to a Rolleiflex 3.5F and boy what a difference it makes with the Zeiss coating.
Jaycie! So happy for you! What a fun camera to use, I would love to try a TLR myself 😊 (Also you have great video production/direction, I learn from videos like yours)
Great photos! Especially the one of your dad, great capture and mood in the image :) I also got my first medium format camera recently, also a TLR. Hope you got the fungus issue sorted, it's a really cool camera to shoot with. You got a really nice vibe going in your videos, Subscribed!
thank you so much for your support!! the TLR is so fun to shoot with 😌 and unfortunately the fungus etched the lens pretty badly, so i'm looking to get a new medium format camera aha
Great video! I had a Mat-124g too, it had the same effect and I found out it was the grease from the aperture blades, it’s pretty easy to open and get the lens clean. It’s a pretty common problem with the Mat-124g but also a simple fix with some tools. Keep the videos coming :)
The Yashica MAT124G is a great camera, I love mine. they also made the Yashica 635, whih rakes both 120 and 35 mm film with a special adaptor..I have one and it also takes some wonderful shots. 🙂
Just came across your channel! Nice shots! Bummer about the haze but if you do get it serviced just know the camera is absolutely amazing and will be well worth the service.
unfortunately the camera could not be serviced, so i decided to sell it and invest it in a rangefinder since 35mm is my go to format 😅 i hope to get a new medium format camera in the future though
I really miss my 120 camera, because I did not take it with me to Toronto, just a Contax G1 with 45mm2f and 10 films. But the view really fit the 120mm most of the time. And I find here are few film develop store. BTW, do you develop your films by yourself?
I am wondering how you pulled off the double exposure it is nice because as another poster posted it’s you and your mom. Hope you got it fixed it’s a great camera.
Have you gotten the lens cleaned or did you get a different camera altogether? The image that you said you liked most with the foreground tree is also my favorite.
i had tried to get the lens cleaned, but the fungus had etched the lens, so there was no use. so i had gotten the mamiya 645 pro! and thanks for watching ☺️
i’m not sure what you mean, that’s just the reality of film photography. there’s always going to be unpredictable moments where your roll turns out blank, the developing process goes wrong and so many other factors. anyone can do film photography if they enjoy it ✌🏼

I just inherited my Grandfather's Yashica Mat 124G, it's a unique camera for sure!!! Love the video :)
I kinda like the double exposure of you and your mom, it feels special and connected mom and daughter ❣️
thank you so much! i didn't think much of it at first, but i received a couple comments like this and it definitely puts it in a nice perspective 💛
The best double exposure shot I’ve seen

ah thank you so much reimann! and LOL for real, that was such a coincidence
Both of you getting TLR’s… I want one now too
Enjoyed the video. The picture at 3:39 was my favorite. Love the minimalism.
thanks so much! it is definitely a peaceful photo 😄 thanks for watching!

That was my first medium format camera as well, but I got mine new in 21978!!! Lovely photos!!!
thank you for watching! and this camera is definitely a gem
Congrats for your first medium format camera! I loved my yashica mat 124g as well!

Did you shoot with this camera again?
I love my Yashica Mat
Good start. Still a lot to go.
Hi jaycielinh I think it would benefit you to get a lens hood for your taking lens….great video thanks….Malc
aha yes, that would definitely prevent me from getting my fingers in the lens! thanks malcolm
2:18 this double exposure works because you were born from your mother.
Does it use a battery and does it have a flash?
hi! yes it does take a battery in order for the light meter to work. it does not have a flash!
