Running the generator at 50% load a 20lbs lasted 10 hours 45mins. What we are paying for propane from our local ACE hardware is 2.99. So our cost is about the same as gas. The reason we run propane is because its stable for long durations of time, no gumming of the carb and lower fumes.
I did this conversion to my Honda 1000 back in 2008 and still to this day it starts and runs like new. I have 1,000's of hours on this genny it sits in my semi trailer side box all year for hundreds of thousands of vibrations and miles and I use it to power my AC while parked. It has never not once let me down,...not even one time. The propane conversion is why, and I highly recommend it for ANY portable genset.
Thank you for ur comment because I have one but I want to transfer it to propane how long does ur generator last for
@@cristoperodriguezgil8075 Do you mean how long will it run on a tank of propane, or how long will the unit last as a whole?
Fuel consumption, a gas grill tank will last 20 hours on eco low mode, and 10 hours at full run. That's if you get the tank filled, if you buy the tank from an exchange (walmart, home depot) you only get about 15lbs of propane, not 20lbs.
As far as lifetime. I never let it get wet, and it has 1,000 of hours on it, this year I changed the spark plug (but the old one was still good). It still starts up right away and runs perfectly. I've never ran gasoline through it. I was going to replace it with a new one, but the new one sits at home in it's box, that was three years ago.
I've been watching videos about generator fuel conversions. DIY to store bought. For me you are the first to point out the stop flow safety feature. One if those slap on the forehead moments. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and glad you liked it.
I received the nash deluxe kit that has the regulator and other parts needed for true plug and play ($179.99). Purchased in July 2020 and finally got around to installing. Mine came with thread extensions so you don’t have to mess with extending the bolts when mounting the airbox. Ran it for about 30 minutes and think I’m good to go. I also drilled holes in the airbox, hopefully will alleviate the spark plug fouling. Excited to boondock the camper this weekend. Thanks for the video. Was very helpful!!
Glad you like the Video.
been runnin same conversion for 8 years. be gentle with the primer button- the internal lever is plastic and can break. also run gas through it once in awhile or the passages in the carb will get clogged and it wont want to run on gas. you can lean it out to work with the load on the generator and save more fuel.
Thanks for the heads up about the internal lever!
That was one items I should have touched on in the video. To save the passages, use Stabil before running the gas out and to drain the remaining fuel from the carb bowl.
I was going to drain out the gas I hadn't used during the 2 hour burn in per se, but perhaps I'll leave it and run it out firing the generator up ever month or so. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks a million, friend. I just bought one of these a couple weeks ago, and was thinking about something like a propane conversion. Your video makes it look simple enough that I'm going to do it myself.
thanks for the comment!
Got a Motor Snorkel a few months ago. It is simple to install, 30 minutes even for a person who is all thumbs with motors, so worth it!!!
Added a Motor Snorkel to my 6,500 watt Champion generator a few months ago. Generator $699 CAD on sale, Motor Snorkel $185. Got my natural gas line extended. Got quick disconnects for my natural gas line and propane hose. I can switch between natural gas, propane and gasoline in seconds. You gotta wonder how these generator companies can justify selling open frame tri fuel generators for 2 to 3 times the price of a gas only generator when the upgrade is so simple.
I recently bought the Predator 3500 and very interested in doing this conversion... great video and explanation !
Thanks for the complement. For the money, I believe this is a great addiction for anyone inside the camping community. With this conversion we run off the RV propane instead of carrying extra fuel.
Thanks for the video and the conversion kit that you used along with all the extras. Makes it look like something I can do on my own, so I can also maintain the generator on my own.
Thanks for the comment. it is pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the explanation about the safety feature of the kit.
I was wondering why people buy the kits if you can just hack the gas into the air filter.
Thank you! Love my predator 3500. This is really good information.
Good job brother, I'm going to install this kit on my 3500. Thank you!
Very good point the fuel does,nt go off .
How long will this generator run on a 20# bottle? Thanks for the video, excellent video.
Very Informative. Clear, simple instructions. Easy to follow.
Thankyou Sir.
Thank you
Thanks for sharing, no one Says propane better than that
No runtime comparison? Good video except for what a lot of commenters are also asking. A runtime test at about 60% or some percent load comparison would be very helpful.
Thanks for the compliment. You are correct about a lot of people asking for runtime info. I will be doing a runtime video next weekend if its nice out or if not in the near future.
@@millersinthemoment5427 Thanks!!!
You are the best G
Great video . Simple... to the point thanks
Thank you i got it done because of you nice video
Thank you I saw your video exactly what you told me and it works
Got over 6000 hours on my Harbor Freight 3500
that is awesome! I hope mine runs that long too.
Thanks for this info. Good job!
Very good video. What happens with the gasoline feature. Do you have to shutoff the gasoline flow. It would be great if you could clarify what to do.
Thanks
Jim
Thanks for the question. there is no shutoff on the unit. I just keep my Fuel tank empty when I running propane. Since the propane adapter is upstream of the carb then is no affect while running fuel. you might be able to add a shut off.
Nice Video , What is the run time with propane Vs. Gasoline? Is it more efficient with propane? Thanks
Thanks for the complement! Sorry, I've not ran any comparison between gas vs propane. The main reason for this conversion was to stop carrying unleaded fuel during our campout.

Great Video, Well Done. Thanks for posting.
Great video Brother!
EXCELLENT!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So with an RV with the standard twin 20lb cylinders, I have a quick access port for bbq grill, etc. How would one incorporate the low pressure and big garrison regulators in that scenario?
Be nice to be able to use the existing tanks and tap into that quick fitting port on the underside or the rig if doable. Thanks. Very helpful video.
Maybe something like this? www.amazon.com/dp/B07YYY25ZP.
Awesome video! Thank you Sir!
I like the set up. very smart. was going to order it but your links are not working to locate the items. I will goggle it and see what I can find. a couple questions for you, do they sell a replacement diaphragm for the kit and is a new regulator necessary when the RV is already regulated? thanks.
update; located it on Amazon, now the only problem is that it will not ship to me here in California.
Thanks for the questions. I know Nash was having some supply issues, just like everyone else but they do come back in stock. Also yes you still need the regulator that comes with the kit. That regulator is a vacuum control so if your engine stops running the gas flow stops. Hope this help.
Nice video and very helpful! I just converted my Predator 3500 with your instructions and worked out great. By the way, how long would a 20lb propane tank last? Thanks!
Thanks and I'm glad you found it useful. As for the runtime I'm not sure because I tapped into my RV tanks. So the stove and heater also pulls off the tanks.
Do you have a link what model conversion kit you bought?
sounds like the generator is hunting? Is that because the of propane fuel or just the generator? Great video. I have rejeted my carb from a #76 to a #72, will that change anything with the conversion or performance? What size propane tank are you using and how much run time before running out or propane on this generator? Thanks
Thanks for the questions. Both of my generator's hunt a little with no load but even a light load will smooth them out. Since the propane is introduced into the air stream your rejet will not be affected. On the runtime I'm not sure, I installed this conversion at the end of our 2020 camping season. I have only ran it for a few power outage and monthly start up to keep the battery topped off.
I didn't quite understand, if I want to connect a generator to the main gas pipe at my house, I don't need this device that you screwed to the cylinder, do I? So I only need a hose and an adapter?
Correct, you would not use the propane adapter if you're installing it to natural gas line. Thanks for watching!.
@@millersinthemoment5427 Thanks for the reply, greetings from Russia)
Your very welcome. Also, I like watching " The Sheekoz Family" on UA-cam. How Dan views life in Russia is about the same as the common person in the USA...... stay safe!
How do you get it to not draw gasoline out of the gas tank?
I have the same question
Have you tried going back to gas and back to propane? Do you need to run out all the gas first before switching back (i.e., out of the carb?)
I do switch back and forth. You will need to have the gas tank empty or install a shutoff to run propane.
I have another question? If I here you right you have NO gasoline in the fuel tank to run the propane?
Correct.
Thanks for the interesting video appreciate your work. Near the beginning you mentioned keeping the original carburetor because of the solenoid connection? Do you know what that top of carburetor 'solenoid' function is? I don't. I have a predator inverter 4375 generator that I'd like to convert to Natural Gas. I'm considering a replacement carb that has incorporated a diaphragm for natural gas and Propane conversion, but no wiring. Just wondering of your thoughts on the necessity of the wired connection at top of carburetor. Thanks again nice video
Hello John, the solenoid are for the eco mode setting on the front of the generator. I hope that help you out.
@@millersinthemoment5427 wow thanks for the prompt reply. It does help from the standpoint now I know what it does I'm just curious on if disconnected the electronics tell the motor to shut off that would be bad. I guess I can do a trial and error. Seeing as I'll be running on natural gas the Eco Mode isn't really an issue other than idling idling down with very little load. And considering natural gas does not have the btu power rating that gasoline does I would assume that running at a higher throttle would be better for the generating unit. Again thanks for your reply I'll give it a trial and error using gasoline just to see if it shuts the thing down.
John
Very good video.looks super easy. Im thinking about doing mine. New Sub here

What are the yellow rings that look crimped at the end of the video?
Thanks
The yellow ring is just caps that protects the hose end from getting scraped up.
I'm surprised you are only getting around 10.75 hours on a 20lb tank of propane... Mine runs roughly 12 hours on the 2.25 hours of gasoline. At 3.25/gallon, that's only 2/3 the cost for the same run time compared to propane.
I understand it's a "nice to have option" as you can store propane but man, I was hoping a 20lb tank would last longer than 2 gallons of gasoline.
Thanks for watching. I wasn't for sure what to expect before installing the propane kit either, but like you said, "nice to have option".
How does it handle changing the flow of propane between no load and a heavy load ? A heavy load would require more propane than no load, so do you have to readjust the adjustment screw to get it to run smooth ?
The changes between the different demands doesn't seems to have an issue. The only time I need to adjust the flow is between summer vs winter seasons and its only a 1/4 of a turn.
THANKS ! 🤠👍
Have you done any math on a cost comparison between gas and propane? I imagine propane is much cheaper. Running a 2.6 gallon tank of gas for about 5 hours at about 2/3 load would cost about $7.50. I would hope propane would cut that in half.
Running the generator at 50% load a 20lbs lasted 10 hours 45mins. What we are paying for propane from our local ACE hardware is 2.99. So our cost is about the same as gas. The reason we run propane is because its stable for long durations of time, no gumming of the carb and lower fumes.
Hey Everyone, I purchased the Nash kit. The garrettson diaphragm valve didn't have that little priming button in the back. Am I going to have any issues starting the generator without one?
Rob, without a prime button you will have issue starting. If I was you I would contact Nash fuels and ask.
@@millersinthemoment5427 Thank you for replying. I was able to get it started without the primer function. I did have to change my set up and had to leave the vent plugs in. I had two quick connects in my original setup. I think my tube connectors that I bought outside of the kit were restricting flow. I changed to just one quick connect on the predator but I have still have one of what I believe is a restricting tube adapter on the system. It seems to have worked. Thank you for reaching out. Your video is good.
Are you still running the stock sized jet?
Yes, I kept the stock jet installed. Since the propane is added into the air stream there was no need to mess with the jet.
Running it at 60-70% load on propane with a 20lbs tank how many hours could you get from it. I'm looking to increase the run time more then anything else. Thanks
Sorry Rick, im not sure on a runtime on a 20Lbs tank. Ive not done any studies of propane vs load.
Have you had the proper amount of months to know how many hours a 20lb tank lasts?
Are those quick disconnects the same as for a air compressor ???
I had a 300 lb tank that already has a quick disconnect do I need that regulator still ?
So, you say you lose 100-200 watts on the Predator 3500 going to propane. Have you seen or notice any other changes or helpful hints since this video?
Thanks for the question, Not I've not notice any changes. We are still about to run our 13.5K AC and 2 refrigerators without any issues
Check my video on Preditor 3500 LP conversion. It is easy to add a shutoff switch so you can use the knob as a fuel shutoff only. Took me about 30 minutes.
I purchased a Predator 3500 inverter generator. Will the conversion kit work on it?
Yes, the Nash fuel kit will work on the H/F 3500.
Does the gas tank have to be empty before you hook up and run propane??
Am I correct in assuming if my camper has a quick disconnect for a griddle that has already gone through the low pressure regulator on the camper so I do not need the low pressure regulator?
Yes, you should be fine. Thanks for the question.
what happens if there some gas left in the system and run propane?
Until you put a shutoff on the gas line it will suck gas and propane at the same time. I didnt think you could get the generator to even run right if it was fueling for dual sources.
What is the fuel consumption comparison.
With a 50% load a 20lbs tank last about 10hr 45 minutes.
@@millersinthemoment5427 so it is actually less efficient?
What i found was it is equal, 1 tank of gas vs 1 tank of propane. We keep the generator full of gas and if we run out of fuel then we switch over to our camper propane. This setup allows us not to need extra fuel cans in the bed of the truck.
@@millersinthemoment5427 but the fuel tank only holds 2.4 gallons. In a propane tank on average is 4.7. So I guess the propane is a little bit cheaper than gasoline but I was hoping that there would be a much more substantial savings
Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time not only to make a video but for the interaction and to answer my questions

Question, if you ran it constantly under load, how long would your basic 20lb propane tank last?
Thanks for the question. Sorry, I have not done any testing on time vs load. I tapped into our RV set-up, so our stove and heater also uses our 2 x30lbs tanks.
What about run time, as compared with gas? How long with 20lb bottle?
Running the generator at 50% load a 20lbs lasted 10 hours 45mins. What we are paying for propane from our local ACE hardware is 2.99. So our cost is about the same as gas. The reason we run propane is because its stable for long durations of time, no gumming of the carb and lower fumes.
Awesome, thanks!! I use my generator on a micro camper I pull with an atv to remote fishing spots, I could benefit from only carrying one type of fuel for all my camp needs, and weight is an important factor as well. This could possibly be beneficial for me.
How does the stop flow safety feature work if the other side of that valve isn’t hooked up? I’m confused on it.
Thanks for the question. the diaphragm requires a vacuum to open the fuel. the the vacuum is produced when the intake valve is opened and the piston is moving downward. During start up the vacuum to low that is why you need to use the primer button. I hope this help explain it.
Can you list what the regulator part is and where you obtained it? ebay? amazon? part number?
I used a Mr. Heater low pressure regulator # F276136 that was purchased at Menards. You will also need a 3/8 pipe, 3/8 -1/2 and 1/2 -3/4 reducer.
If you go the Motor Snorkel route, just search for Motor Snorkel in Google and first result that comes up should be the right page. Enter you generator make, model and engine model number (should be in the specs section of you generator manual) and US Carburation will send you the proper kit for your generator. I am not affiliated in any way with US carburation, just had a really good experience with them/their product.
Can you run it on natural gas alone or does it have to be a mix of fuels?
You can run each fuel independently. Thanks,
Average run time for one full tank of propane with a moderate load?
About the same runtime as gas. Hope this helps
What size is the propane line? Could this kit work with a 100lb tank?
Im not sure, I think they are 1/4" lines. I think directions said up to 100lbs tank it but I've never used a 100lb'er . sorry
So where did u purchase the parts
has anyone tried running a roof ac off the propane? Like for 30amp RV?
Yes we did run our AC on propane.
Does it still give off carbon monoxide one switch to propane I'd appreciate an answer if you know thanks
Thanks for the question. The short answer is YES, but the fumes are not as noxious as running regular gas
how many hours does it last with 1 full tank of propane?? does it last more than gas?
The runtime is about the same between a full tank of gas vs 20Lbs propane tank. I hope that help.
Has anyone tried this kit with model 56720, rather than the listed model 63584? Does it matter and what’s the difference?
Can you do that on a old Briggs and Stratton generator ?
Yes, this set-up should works with any horizonal shaft small engine.
What parts and from where?
Amazon and link in the description.
The H/F 3500 I purchased 2 weeks ago has a different air cleaner system and it doesn’t appear that you will be able to use this kit in this generator.
Thanks for the info. Could you provide a little more details on the changes? I know this motor has been used by H/F for years but they may have tackled the air flow issue a lot of us are having.
@@millersinthemoment5427 After looking closer even though HarborFreight redesigned the inverter you CAN use the conversion kit. I had to open the front and move some wires to make room for the air box. They moved the oil fill to the other side of the inverter and the air filter is now where the oil fill was. If you’d like a picture send an email to me at kkint54@yahoo.com
What size is the propane line and could this kit work with. 100lb tank?
How hard would it be to swap back to Gasoline?
The propane is introduced into the air side so you're not affecting the ability to run gas. just fill the fuel tank up with gas as you normally would.
Can I use this conversion kit on Predator inverter 9500?

Since there is no shut off on the gas tank, you will need to have the tank empty when running on propane/
Where did you get the quick connect for gas lines where you have your yellow tape?
Thanks for the question! The quick connection fitting are air line fitting that I ordered on Amazon and they come with the yellow cup already installed. The cups give the hose some protection around the cut edge but any air line fitting should work. Since the system works off vacuum, if there is a leak after the regulator it with not let propane to continue to flow.

what psi on the low pressure regulator and what would be the max pressure?
I'm not sure of the psi but I used Mr. Heater low pressure regulator # F276136. I believe the max is 10psi.
It has to be a two stage regulator. It takes tank pressure and reduces it to 11" water column (or about 1/2 of one psi)
How long does it run on propane sir
Thanks for the question, A 20lbs propane tank is about the same runtime has a full tank of gas.

I have a yamaha 2800i generator and I am hoping with the propane it will still have a slow and a fast run function, so under low load times it can save fuel. By the way, great video.
@@Tom-xp7dl It should act the same on either propane or gas because your not changing the carb. The ECO mode controls the butterfly inside the carb to slow the motor down. On gas as the butterfly closes less fuel is pulled into the air stream. On propane the air/propane mixture is slowed by the closing of the butterfly.

if you're using propane, check the following.
1- propane tank is on and has propane in it.
2- push your primer button, do you hear hissing sound? If not check #1
3- turn your adjustment screw either in or out and try to start.
I push the primer 2 seconds per foot of my hose length. this should insure your getting fuel into the air stream.

I tried the thirty second prime twice without success. I'm confident gas is getting to the house connection to the venturi. However, I did notice I could see and smell gas leaking from around the adjustment screw at the top of the large regulator.
This generator is 900 dollars, when you can by a champion dual fuel generator for 1100 and not have to buy anything else an not have to make any adaptation.
The main reason I choose the Predator with the Nash upgrade over the Champion is the addition of Natural Gas. I couldn't find any documentation stating Champion could run on tri-fuel. Since we have family members that use NG and Propane, I wanted the ability to power their needs during power outages.
I bought my Predator for $650 on sale and the trifuel Nash kit for $179 on Ebay, so unless you can get the Champion on sale, this is still cheaper. Works great on natural gas also. No bottle swaps in the middle of the night either. We had a 20+ hour outage last week and after a 10 minute hookup I was done until the power came back on. Natural gas locally costs less than half as much as propane so if you don't want to keep refilling your tanks and spending $40-$50 a day for power, the natgas trifuel option is best.
@@cellpro10 but that means you have start messing with the house gas lines to get a line going outside and that means potential insurance issues.
@@cookiecracker6266 Every house I have seen already has the meter and line outside. Remember meter readers checking every month or two? A part of the plumbing on the house side typically will have a stub for the gas company to attach equipment to test pressure and check for leaks, regulator function, etc. All that is necessary is to add a stub and another "T" fitting for your tap and shutoff valve. About -$20 in parts and 15 minutes tops to install. You will need to relight interior pilots because you shut off the gas once to connect this, but that's all. Maybe look at your meter and see if it is the same. The local codes generally need service access for the gas feed, so they tend to be standard. I suspect you could also have insurance issues on storage of propane.
@@cellpro10 I am in NJ and here the meters are inside the house, and the people who checks them they come into the house, or give you a paper where you mark the readings. I have seen one person here who has one gas line outside for his grill, but I wonder if cooking with natural gas is the same as grilling with propane now.
this product is junk ordered to do propane converstion on my generator was supposed to be complete kit. There is no way to hook it to a propane bottle. took to ace hardware and home depot and they couldn't even figure out to hook it to a propane tank. there were no instruction. this was a rip off.
Well you have to know what you need first. Unless you are running on natural gas from your house or elsewhere ( which will already be regulated) you must have a small high pressure regulator( on propane bottle) before the large one to run propane . The small regulator reduces the high pressure propane so the large low pressure "on demand" regulator can send it through to the carburetor. I plan to have both regulators at the tank end when my kit arrives, that is they are connected small to large one after the other. This can be accomplished by either one "half union" 3/8" to 3/4" brass fitting or 2 brass fittings....I plan to use 2 fittings: one 3/8" threaded into a 3'/4" which is then threaded into the large on demand regulator. All these kits by various companies are over priced some worse than others.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
