    For video, i would definitely go with the Lumix. They would have been the industry standard if not for the auto-focus issues. But now they have fixed that anything is possible. Even though i have the A7R i would still like to get my hands on the Lumix. The GH5 was a great camera.

    The Sony's advantage seems to be the Creator's App, which allows you to receive the image on an iPad and perfectly manage the focus with an assistant with a lens that of course works in autofocus or manual mode with an internal motor, so there's no need to add an external motor. I can't find the Panasonic equivalent anywhere.

    Considering Lumix actually updates firmware and values their customer. Sony lost their way, their camera lineup is way over bloated and confusing and their cameras are uncomfortable to use with terrible colors. And their lenses are garbage now that Zeiss has exited. Literally the only thing the ever had was autofocus which they don't exclusively have superiority over anymore. Lumix makes superior cameras for half the price.

    A looks like Sony and B looks like Lumix based on the rolling shutter of the Sony and IBIS of Lumix. I do like Sony for recording the gyro data for software stabilization and the wireless connectivity with MI shoe for microphones. It also has a good 3rd party app that lets you monitor and control on your iPhone. Those are still big selling points for Sony and although I wouldn’t consider a7iv but would consider ZVE1 or A7S3. However I do prefer the colour and image from Lumix more.

    I have Sonys. And I dont like shooting with them. I dont like the menus, I dont like the haptics, I am pissed off by Sony’s lack of firmware support. My recommedation: Dont buy for specs only, but buy into a system where you want to pick up the camera and shoot. And where you get reliable firmware support. Now that Lumix AF is competitive, I might go back.

    Wait, what? I don’t think it can record BRaw to an external SSD… I’m pretty certain you need the Blackmagic Video Assist for that functionality. If I’m wrong, I might have screwed up selling this camera for the new full frame Blackmagic camera, because size, weight, feature wise… it’s pretty hard to beat the Panay. Please speak a bit more to this claim.

    • @jockturner1547
      @jockturner1547 8 місяців тому +3

      No I think you're right. I flipped out when Sam said that and grabbed my camera, updated the firmware just incase and no you can't. You can do SSD pro-res up to 5.9k but its all compressed. That being said, theres nothing RED can do to stop Lumix and BM working together to allow internal B-RAW as its not a true RAW so theres nothing stopping Lumix from doing it internally or at least to a SSD... And with BM just joining the L-mount...maybe Sam knows something we don't and slipped up? One can dream...

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual 8 місяців тому +1

      You are correct. None of the Panasonic Lumix cameras can record internal RAW (USB-SSD is still internally recording). That's a patent issue, not a capabilities issue. Hence RAW recording on Lumix cameras always is via HDMI to an external recorder. For BRAW, you indeed need the BMD Video Assist.

    S5IIX looks very very tempting for photography too. I don't like Sony, so for me would be great to know how S5IIX stands versus Canon R6, Canon R8, Nikon Z6 II, Nikon Z5, etc. As far as i know, Panasonic seems to bake more noise reduction in raw photo, and Canon the less. So Canon seems to be more detailed.

    But wanted the extra MP for prints and wanted to use the 100-400 but nevertheless I’m going for LUMIX despite being primarily a photographer.
    I just can’t stand the green and red shifts on the Sony, that colour inaccuracy disturbs my soul.

Stab is preferred absent as it can produce unwanted movement, even when stablisation is turned off. This is where physical stablisation is preferred. Check out all of canon's cinema cameras, arri, red, even Sony. The vast vast majority of them do not have stablisation, barely any of them have functional autofocus and a huge number don't have NDs either. All those things are added externally for control. And while I primarily use Blackmagic, I need something with autofocus and run and gun for some minor shoots, but with ability to rig it up if needed. And man, of course i wanted to use BRaw with Lumix, but it's unusable because of HDMI latency and i CAN'T BELIEVE that they didn't fix it with their second generation. I'm looking towards Sony now, either a7IV or A7SIII, at least i can use an external monitor with those. And for people who talk about overheating, it's only aplicable if you shoot weddings or interviews. If you shoot B-Roll, music vids, reels, commercials, where you snap 15 second clips, none will overheat.

    There is no way you didn’t shake the camera purposely on those basketball shots or turn off ibis for the Sony. I’ve used Lumix my whole videography career but I rent FX3, A7RV, and A7Siii when I need a second camera and their ibis is almost as good as Lumix. Your test was 100% wrong, rather it was on accident or on purpose I don’t know but it is wrong and I stand on that 100%.

    I know it`s a big effort to create such videos, but I want to share some things I noticed as a viewer that wants this channel to do well! :
    1. The music is a bit too calming, combined with your relaxing voice the video feels too slow . Also other youtubers are engaging more with the viewer imo.
    2. the studio setting is too static/dark, I`d rather watch someone outside testing some settings/features.
    3. The first of the video is very entertaining, and also adds unique value to what other people are showing me, when they compare more than specs. The later sections could be shorter.
    Again, just my personal thoughts, I don`t know what your budget is or ur plans for this channel! Also I don`t know if the lenght is meant to be like that for the algo. If so then nevermind.
    Thx for the awesome content! :)

      Thanks for sharing this feedback. I really appreciate the respectful way you delivered this and I will take it all into consideration. It’s difficult and time consuming to make videos out and about but if it makes it more engaging for the viewer, it’s worth spending that extra time 🙏🏻

      Good feed back. Let me give my opinion.
      1. The video speed feels about right to me, as a 38yr old videographer. If i want to see fast I would watch shorts.
      2. The dark studio setting is nice for me because it shows me how clean the shadows can look coming for the camera he is using, and he didn't just lazily throw a ring light in front of his face. That said more Broll is almost always better. As far as engaging people, this is a tough one... it comes very naturally to some people and some people just have to work very hard at getting better. He probably should study the "process communication model" to better engage with a larger amount of people. I personally love the way he presents.. but I am just one man and a weirdo at that.
      3.Intros are normally the most exciting part of a video as you are taught to create a hook, to keep people engaged within the first 5 seconds. It's tough.. UA-cam requires a video to be at least 8 mins long if you want the ability to run an ad in the middle of the video. Otherwise length shouldn't matter.
      Hopefully all this is constructive for everyone. My wife and I are taking a week off to look at our channels, to see how we can better communicate and present, so this was a fun and informative post for me to read and compare my thoughts to yours!

    @SimeonKolev 8 місяців тому +1

    А7rV is the worst video camera from Sony at the moment. Almost all recording is done with line skipping or binning in the best situation which results in noise and moire. And because of the really slow sensor even in APS-C where it shoots oversampled 4K it has really bad rolling shutter...
    I think that they were capable of going back to their older 42mp sensor and it was going to be a better hybrid camera. The 61mp sensor is the worst for video...

    you said the sony looks pinkish in the skin tones.. well caucasians are pinkish magenta by nature. we are not yellow. so the sony has very natural skin tones. if you look in the mirror you look like the sony. i dont know why guys think yellow skin tones are better if its not reality.

    I would not recommend to buy that Panasonic's "same size" lenses, so plasticy build, very cheap in quality compared to the price. Image is great though, and as "free bundle" lens it's fine, but not for 500+ bucks

    That rolling shutter 6k on Lumix is BAD!! There’s no secret that this Sony camera isn’t good for video so I’m not sure why you are showing this comparison unless you’re looking to make it look like the Lumix compares to sony.
    Put the Lumix up against the equivalent Nikon Z8.
