An ancestor of mine had a story about a pepperbox. He was an early Mormon who became an outfitter in in Nebraska for wagon trains headed to UT. He apparently has a lot of interactions with Native Americans both good and bad. Once in NB he was approached by a party of Indians which he greeted respectfully but when one of the party grabbed the reins of one of his horses he brandished an old pepperbox...which immediately changed the plans of the party. Shortly thereafter some of his wagons were pilfered. A day later he was parlaying with a party of Native Americans when he noticed one of the braves wearing one of his missing shirts. He jumped up and yanked the shirt off the brave much to the amusement of the other braves. Have many old west family connections and stories including Kit Carson, Tom Tobin, Charles Goodnight, Clay Allison, founders of a 2.5 mil acre ranch who were the basis for characters in Centennial.
I know where there's a couple of them, at least one being an original. I can't do the newer ones, they just don't look right. Very cool video Santee! I didn't know you could tap-dance!
I was watching a video here in youtube about the fact that the German army in Franco Prussian war didn't have a standard revolve for the offices not german made they use single percussion pistols ! This pepper box will be very handy for them back then! Thanks for sharing
I will forever be mystified how besides your own interesting commentary, and that of your friends, and colleagues, how you always manage to find accompanying audio and video clips.🥳 BTW, that was pretty good steppin'... 👏🏻😂🎉 It is hard to envision a cowboy wearin' tap shoes though.🙃😉🤭 super video, as always, Santee & Company.🎊
I like the way your buddy said most defensive shootings were within 5 yards. When I was a cop we were taught most today are within 7 & 1/2 feet. (In the same room, often across the table)
@ the really ironic thing is we were taught that most were that close BUT, if a knife wielding attacker approached closer than 12 feet we were allowed (encouraged) to use deadly force before he could “close the gap.”
I have an affinity for the late 1800s firearms including the percussion revolvers. I have replicas of the Griswold and Gunnison, Remington 1858 New Army and a Colt Walker dragoon. I would like to get a Le Mat’s revolver one day and if one of the Italian manufacturers would make a decent one of these pepper box revolvers I would like to get one. Those things are so cool. I can imagine walking down the street with one tucked into my belt and people wondering what it is. Fantastic video on, in my opinion, an iconic weapon.
I remember seeing some old tin types in a museum of miners showing off their pepperbox revolvers. I also remember seeing a pair of suspenders/races with holsters sewn into the straps for a single shot pistol or a pepperbox revolver. And I wish that someone would bring back the 5 shot .36 or 6 shot .32 pepperbox. I personally would buy 2.
Thanks again , Santee & Co. I'll look into Legal Heat . I have my South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit , and we're a Con Carry state . I'm a member of Right To Bear . 🐻
Those old replicas you referenced marketed from 1970's to '90's or so also had a pepper box version that was strickly a decorator with non bored through nipple sockets. A re-enactor friend bought one not realizing it, and (paraphrasing) was like the dead atheist was all dressed up with no place to go (like shooting his non shootable pepperbox). [OK my humor's lame, I won't quit my day job!]
Interesting piece. It was nice to learn about the Pepper box pistol. I didn’t know much about it other what it looked like. Thanks Santee. Maybe you could do a video on how one would use it and take care of it, including how it is loaded and reloading when being used.
There used to be a reproduction pepper box from Spain all metal handle gold or silver color 6 shot .22 self rotating with lots of nice rolled on engraving they're quite nice if you want a modern pepperbox to shoot they'd be a good choice
Love the pepperbox. Wish I had an Allen and Thurber. I do have a Pietta pepperbox even though I know it is not historical. I changed the grip to a birds head thunderer grip and it made it more accurate for me and a fun shooter. Cool to see James Lovin with you at the end. Loved yer tap and swipe. Should have tried it here in California instead. 🤣🤣🤣
Santee.....Have you considered doing a video on the Chicago Palm Pistol? You see them in spaghetti westerns, mainly, but I saw one for sale years ago online for about $1500. They look very cool but I'm not sure about their true use in the old west.

Great family history!
This was a good video but there is a missed opportunity for a ''pew-pew'' from Mrs Santee here!
Yeah, you're right.
It was Santee in the Saloon with the revolver!
HAHA! Damn you, Colonel Mustard!
I remember seeing pepperbox kits selling at Big 5 for about $25 when I was a kid (in the '70's). Wish I had bought one back then!
Yeah, right?
Yup, those were the days. I remember going into Montgomery Wards hardware store to get ammunition. They always had some nice guns on their racks.
That was GREAT! Have a good Santeeday, Folks!!
Thank You!
I know where there's a couple of them, at least one being an original. I can't do the newer ones, they just don't look right. Very cool video Santee! I didn't know you could tap-dance!
Thank You! Yeah....a couple careers ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Another good one, Compadre! I agree, somebody needs to start making these pepperboxes! I would love one!
Me too.
I was watching a video here in youtube about the fact that the German army in Franco Prussian war didn't have a standard revolve for the offices not german made they use single percussion pistols ! This pepper box will be very handy for them back then! Thanks for sharing
Karl's video shows how accurate that little thing can be.
Good video. It was nice to meet you in person yesterday.
You too! It was a pleasure.

Thanks. I used to do it professionally...back when I had hair.
@ArizonaGhostriders WOW 🤠
@@rhondaz356 Right?!?
Thanks Santee, have a good week.

Great episode, Santee! That is a nice little gun. Have a great weekend! Cheers! Love the ending. A man of many talents!
Thank You!
One of the most underrated guns never made, thanks for the video
Thank you Santee🤠
I call it the music box. If you need it to save your life, the sound is music to your ears.
Yes!
The pepperbox revolver was also the main gun of the board game CLUE
Thanks for the video love the history!
Thank You!
Interesting , tapping the card
Yep.
That was a nice little firearm. Gonna have to look for more videos about it.
Watch Karl's

Yeah, there was a time when the average I read is 15'
@ I can see that if at the time most were either in public buildings (bigger rooms in the stores than at home) or outdoors.
@ the really ironic thing is we were taught that most were that close BUT, if a knife wielding attacker approached closer than 12 feet we were allowed (encouraged) to use deadly force before he could “close the gap.”
The pepper box is also a weapon scene in the animated series vox machina by critical role. Percy is the character that uses it
Cool!
The packaging box that shows the gun and accessories immediately reminded me of a new cell phone package. It's weird how the brain works 😂
Right??

Very nice that you have those guns.
I enjoyed the "Saturday Coffee Visit" Santee! Have a great week!
Keep em coming 🤠
Thank You!

Awesome Video Thanks For Sharing 👍
You're welcome!
I read the mark twain story on it. Great bit of history here.
Yep!

Very cool!! Thanks.
Awesome as always!
Sure is a fine little firearm👌
Sure is!
This was a great episode and I'm crossing my fingers for more of the same, and a huge thanks!

Interesting. The ones I handled (kits) were functional and could be fired. I've also handled the Denix, which is what you may be referring to.
Cool video Santee anyway. See you on down the trail, and I hope we can leave the pepperbox at home, not lookin for any trouble. 🤠

Karl's video shows that in very good detail.
Great vid, also good to see Karl, he sure can run black powder.👍
Pepperbox was made back in the days when you couldn’t get access to Quiznos Pepper Bar.
HA!
They're great for perforatein your gizzard
Yes!
Chili Choking Pepper Belly🌶
Maybe as dangerous.
Very cool content Santee
Thank You! Yours too.

OK, thanks for the info.

The doctor said my voice box is damaged and I may never speak again.
I can’t tell you how upset I am.
Nice!!
Oh yes the pepper box.... 6 shots..... sometimes all at once.
Hey Santee, I have an old Winchester 94 carbine. We're these uns used much in the end of the west? If so, who used them?
Anyone in particular?
👍
Hm. I wonder if Dustin Winegar or Jedd I Knight could be persuaded to try shooting a pepperbox in a SASS round?
I bet they would. I don't think Dustin shoots CAS, though.

Santee please make a video on the most famous gunslingers in the wild west
I kinda do that already. Anyone in particular?
Sir please make a detailed video on the whole life of wild Bill hickock as a scout and as a gunslinger.
Love the ending! Rotflmao!
Good!
Was this the same Ethan Allen of furniture store fame?
Different guy.
I've seen an original one at my local store. Very Expen$ive!
Yeah? I guess most 180 year-old guns are these days.
@ArizonaGhostriders
Yes, and speaking of, I'm going to the range this weekend!
You got a saltbox to go with that?
Those aren't in...season.
Ethan Allen made a few sizss of pepperbox they made a 3 shot .32 that's uncommon and highly sought after by collectors.
Yep and a 5-shot.
👍👍👍😎☕
Thank You!
@ArizonaGhostriders >>> Great video...👍
Much appreciated.
