This is nice! Never realised this could’ve done by hand, but obviously it can because how was it done before machines? Thanks for sharing the skills man!!
Any chance something like this is happening again in the future? I am from near Mönchengladbach, Germany and have a couple of hewing Tools i would love to put to use for bigger logs, and improve technique. Would definetily be willing to travel for an occasion like that. Kind Regards
Do you know what kind of axe is being used at 4:50? Ive done a bit of hewing and having a lighter axe like that seems like it would be a useful addition
I'm not sure if it has a specific use. It seemed to me like more of an all around axe, pretty close to a felling axe in geometry but maybe a little more stout. It had a good weight but still maybe on the heavier side. I would also like to find a slightly lighter axe like the one used by the instructor at 6:00.
It s good to see people swinging axes.the oldest tool and one of the b est.
Thanks Ted!
I'm sure I would chop of my foot if I tried this. Very impressive
Go Marcel!
Whoop whoop!
Nice!
Dank u Robbe!

Hi Jan, not planned for now. Maybe look for some more opportunities or like minded people in your area, you never know.

Was it an Ash tree you were working on, if so does it make good beams?
It is ash, I don't see why it wouldn't make a good beam..
@@MarcelTeugels OK Thanks (we have a lot of Ash ready for thinning & it normally goes for firewood). I will try hewing a couple of beams. Thanks again
@@miguelsanchez8238 ash is a great wood for tool handles aswell!
Ash is vulnerable to rot and woodworm, hence why oak is used instead, but you could treat it and keep it dry
Plus depends on if you want you building to last 100s of years or to last a few decades
