- This is a Summer styling of the tree I collected in 2013. Much work has been done on it over the years, and this year I begin to make the next round of hard decisions. All of it to keep the tree on track with my vision of what it can be.
Oh, and I'm using a pressure washer to clean the bark. It's a hell of a tool.

I'm from cenla Louisiana and I love Bald Cypress bonsai trees. I'm taking a few cuttings and hopefully I'll get a few to take so I'm able to have some to enjoy. Good work I enjoy your videos
Thanks for watching. I tried to make time to get to Lake Catahoula this summer, but it just wasn't meant to be. I have a special location that gives me dozens of seedlings of water elms and bald cypress. Hmmm... When do they start filling the lake again? There may still be time for me to make it there.

The best path to knees is to only focus on knees, then the trunk, then branches. The best way to develop knees that I've seen is to keep the roots submerged from March to November, then let the roots drain over Winter. I use mortar tubs (as seen in my videos) as training pots while the upper tree is in development. When I'm ready, I put drainage holes in the tubs. To flood the roots again, I put the mortar tub with the holes, into a mortar tub that has no holes. Then remove it from the no-hole tub in November. Resubmerge in March. During the Winter and into the first flush of Spring, keep the tree watered.
During the period where your hoping to get knees, do not work on the tree at all. Don't even worry about wiring. Just keep the tree flooded. Also, do not repot, let the tree get root bound.
This technique is not a guarantee, but for me, I have had two trees produce knees, and I didn't know what I was doing. For best results, work on a few trees at a time. You'll be playing the odds hoping for one or more trees to give you knees.

Can you root those cuttings by sticking them in water or the ground?
+OfTheDawn Patriot it is my understanding that I could, but I have access to seedlings coming up in lakes, swamps, bayous, yards, and even roof gutters. It isn't worth the hassle. I have been told that bald cypress can also be propagated using aerial grafts. I haven't tried that either. Best of luck to you if you try either technique.
Bill !??? ; I was watching your latest info, on what your doing with your Bald cypress/Bonsai on the 1st. of Sep. . I was watching it on sunday , the 3rd. . At the end , it looked as if you slipped , you dropped out of site , and I could here some grunts , and some moans . Bill , are you alright man !?? Jack
