I have 1 of his pieces his payment arrangements are so organized! As far as the scale, he was supposed to be taller than Lou. There are several episodes where people who saw him spoke on how huge he was trying to imply his height even though Lou was 6 4. It's amazing how many famous people are in this show before they were huge stars. I've seen every episode and love the Banner turning in blue jeans and Hulk having different color shorts episodes 😂. My brother and I died laughing one episode he changed when someone spilled hot coffee on him😂. Great watch, my brother has the whole show on DVD till this day.

We could call this set a Legacy Set/diorama, because thats what it is, and for the good reasons. Those two statues have a powerful emotional connection with us, members of Generation X. Like you said the nostalgia factor cannot be overlooked, and lets just say that this show is part of our DNA, i mean really (and no pun intended!!). Congratulations, make sure you put those statues in a very special place among the rest. Great video Mr.X👍👍💪💪

watched the show all the time as a kid. thought it was the greatest thing ever. havent watched it since childhood and im sure its pretty cheesy now if i were to watch it. but this statue definitely represents the show and the characters very well and really takes you back to that time and place. it is also a very unique piece and just a really cool thing to add to a collection especially if you lived during the time the show aired. amazing to see how far technology has come in the years since to bring to life a character like the hulk who is impossible to truely represent without CGI and be more or less believable.

It's actually a very good show. The Hulk is a curse/burden and Bruce/David Banner is essentially a man on the run; not for his own safety but for the safety of others. The Bruce/David statue captures it well with the high collar like he doesn't want to be recognised and travelling light. Lou as the Hulk was a bit limited by the time, but when those eyes were transforming you knew sht was going down. The Hulks are done better nowadays with CGI, but if you look at the She Hulk show their homage to this show was far far better than the Disney+ show. I think it leans in heavily on grounded heroes which was part of what made Marvel so good. I didn't have too much of an issue with paint coming off I think as you could just chalk it up to weird gamma skin or whatever. It was just a version where he was more angry than jumping miles into the air and ripping tanks apart.

The size difference between Banner and the Hulk is pretty much on point along with the comic book, the Hulk being portrayed as way bigger than Banner as you see here. That wasn't the case with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, wasn't that much height distance. Like this display here.

I have heard that the reason the Hulk couldn't punch or throw people great distances was because the censors at the time wouldn't allow it. That is the same reason the Super-Friends had little to no contact with Legion of Doom. I never really noticed as a child. I just liked both shows!

I vaguely remember the show because my parents used to watch it. I must have been about 5 or 6 at the time (80s baby), so maybe it was in syndication by then. Dunno. The nostalgia factor for this is definitely thru the roof but it takes a special collector to appreciate it I think.

  • @richardb6609

The actual reason for the name change was that the showrunner, Kenneth Johnson, wasn't a fan of Stan Lee's penchant for alliterative names (like Peter Parker, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and Bruce Banner), so to get away from that comic book sound, he changed it to David. But as to whether or not the name David had any special, personal meaning for Johnson, I don't know.

This show was the best Marvel adaptation we had as kids. Nothing else came close, poor spiderman movie, poor Captain America movie, this is a great pick up for anyone who grew up with the show. Also, fun fact, and one of my favorite episodes as a kid was when they introduced Thor (First ever marvel crossover event on TV).

In the original TV movie trailer, I think I was 10 at the time, the narrator said something along the lines of: "...transforms himself into a 7 ft, 1 000lb creature." Well in the french trailer version at least. He was later revealed to be "only" 320 lb in the 2 part Prometheus episodes. So this probably explains the 7 ft, once you do the math, because as you pointed out, Lou Ferrigno is 6ft 4in. I've sometimes read that he was 6ft 5in. I think peak height when in his prime during filming of the serie, was just a shade under 6ft 5in.

Oh yes! I definitely saw this when they originally aired! I was a kid sitting in my wheelchair in my grandparents living room enjoying this!! Now it looks so funny so I’m still enjoying it again in a different way! But nostalgia 100% These statues look good. I agree with you it needed a way to attach/combine the bases. If it was me I would put Hulk behind David Banner. Or side by side. The way you have them is cool but the would need to be displayed on an automatic turn stand to enjoy it, or a display stand where you can walk around them to enjoy the view! I guess we grew up in the same period! Do you remember the Spider-man show from the 70’s? That was crazy! He would shot ropes from his web shooters!!! 😂 Then there was the very cool Wonder Woman with Linda Carter! My crush!!!😂 And did you see the cheesy Captain America show or mini movies on tv ??? Boy that was horrible! His shield was see transparent on the white stripes and it was made of plastic so it was wobbly! Btw I found this review looking for The custom Soldier Wolverine I asked you about. I’ll keep looking! If you can help me find it with a link I’d appreciate it! Keep posting I’ll keep watching! I also read that the reason for changing name from Bruce to David is because of the controversial reason you mentioned!

Nostalgia does hit really hard with this set.
This show, the Adam West Batman series, and Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man were probably the first few live action superhero things that I ever saw on T.V.
I had to get these no matter what.
Seeing your awesome review, it makes me anticipate them even more dude.
As a kid I used to hide behind the fridge when his eyes changed in the opening credits.
Initially it really terrified me, and I wouldn't come out from behind the fridge until the show had started.
My parents would laugh at me do it weekly, and as I conquered my fear eventually, I think I continued doing it because I knew it made my parents laugh so much.
It's that nice little memory of my folks laughing, being one of the big reasons to purchase.
The other reason at the time, like most kids it wowed me, and even though it's hilarious to watch now in places, I still admire Bixby's acting skills to make the show believable. He will remain my favourite Banner.
Lou's presence as the Hulk at that time cannot be understated, he was and still is, a real larger than life guy, and great as this character.
I've been a fan of his bodybuilding career for many years.
From what I hear, he is also a really nice guy, and decent human being.
Even more reason to enjoy this cool nostalgic set, and the memories.
I agree because we are getting older, the audience for this set may have changed slightly, but I hope still that one day, I can perhaps put a Nicholas Hammond statue set beside this.
    Enjoy!!! So cool and unique!!!

Loved the show, that iconic music at the end when he walks away is timeless. Ferrigno looks kinda ok, Bixby as well, nice nostalgic piece. Brings me back to my childhood and memories of some decent shows, Bionic Man, Wonder women and the wonderful afternoon repeats of the Batman show. Maybe should’ve made the Hulk’s base a crescent shape so you could display it behind “David” if you wanted to.

    • @cubannel12

This does take me back to the time I was excited to watch TV shows that really entertained. Of course the Hulk was one of my favorites. It has one of my favorite lines that I still remember till today. "Don't make me angry Mr. McGee, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry." Although that transformation scene was what we all waited for, no one can deny the amazing acting skills of Bill Bixby. He really made the show more pleasurable to watch while they build up the story line, to get to the point of no return transformation. Then it was all up to Lou Foregno to strud his stuff and impress us with his natural ability. Although the statues to commemorate that show is great looking it could have been made better especially the paint job. It's a pass for me. Just like the Linda Carter Wonder Woman statue that was made before it doesn't affect me because I am not into statues of actors. Still it is a very impressive sculpt none the less and it is a fun statue to see. Congratulations on getting it and thank you for sharing.

I was glad that you mentioned the bottom of his feet & the palms of his hands were skin toned & the reason why. His feet were really foot shoes. The gums are a little whack (more nostalgia), I never seen his big red gums like that, I always thought the Hulk had a pretty nice set of tic tacs as far as I thought. Great statue pick up. May have seen a couple episodes of the series. First introduction was the tv-movie ( I believe? ) call the return of the Incredible Hulk. Was disapointed at first, because it was so different from the comics, but it kinda grew on over the years. Picked up a DVD, that contained the pilot episode and the second episode as well, shorly after the Ang Lee Hulk was released in cinemas.
Side note. The name change from Bruce to David, from what I heard ( somewhere ), aside the gay thing, was also to indicate the David/Goliath contrast in the character as well. Do not know if that is true tough.
Anyway I liked the showcase here.
